Chapter 189: Chapter 189: Being With Me Is Your Blessing
"As long as she doesn’t say anything, it will be fine."
Anne Sutton asked Nathan Fawcett, "Assistant Chase told me that the Linden family could revoke your inheritance at any time. If you acknowledge your identity as Nathan Fawcett and this gets out, will it have a huge impact on you?"
Hearing her, Nathan Fawcett glanced over. Noticing her concern, he said sarcastically, "What? If I lost everything I have now, you’d despise me, is that it? Already planning for your future?"
"No," Anne said. "You have it good with the Linden family. I just think... if you lose everything with them because of matters related to the Fawcett Group, it wouldn’t be worth it."
Nathan Fawcett raised an eyebrow. "Good, as long as you know. I’m making such a huge sacrifice for you, so you’d better be nicer to me. Stop provoking me all the time."
"What do you mean I’m always provoking you?" Anne protested. "How have I provoked you now?"
Nathan Fawcett looked at her. "I was just saying. If you’re tired, go get some rest."
Anne looked over at Ian, who said, "Go get some rest, Mommy. Don’t worry about me."
He was a very considerate boy. He could see that Anne was exhausted and didn’t want to cause her any trouble.
Hearing his words, Anne stood up and went upstairs.
She drew a bath and soaked for a while, trying to relax.
Just thinking about Yvonne Evans made her deeply uncomfortable.
She hadn’t insisted on seeing her mother today, partly because of Yvonne Evans. She knew the whole truth but didn’t know whether or not to tell her mother.
If she told her, she was afraid her mother wouldn’t be able to handle it.
But keeping it a secret felt even worse.
After her bath, she stepped out of the tub, but her mind was elsewhere. Her foot slipped, and she fell hard.
...
She got dressed and was leaning against the wall as she walked out the door. Nathan, who had just come in, saw her and asked, "What happened to you?"
Anne said, "I slipped just now. Twisted my ankle."
’When it rains, it pours.’
Seeing her like this, Nathan’s expression darkened. He strode over. "Don’t move."
Anne froze at his words. Nathan promptly swept her up into his arms. "Are you mute? You fall down and don’t even call for help?"
"It was just a little fall. My foot hurts, but it shouldn’t be a big deal."
"..." Nathan carried her to the bed and set her down. He glanced at her ankle. Not a big deal? It was already starting to swell.
Nathan asked, "Do you need to go to the hospital?"
"No," Anne said. "I just need some medicine. Can you pass me my phone?"
He looked at her. "Why do you need your phone now?"
"I’ll order a delivery to bring me some medicine."
"Are you an idiot?" Nathan said. "Tell me what medicine you need. I’ll have someone go buy it."
’They had servants to run errands, and yet she was thinking about delivery.’
Anne looked at Nathan and told him the name. Soon after, Nathan called for Butler Walters and sent him to buy the medicine.
Anne sat on the edge of the bed, staring at her foot, feeling frustrated.
She climbed into bed and pulled the covers over herself.
Nathan noticed her eyes were red-rimmed. "What, you want to cry?"
Anne said, "I just feel like I’ve been so unlucky lately. Do you think maybe I used up all my good luck in the first half of my life, so now all I run into is misfortune?"
Nathan looked at her. "You’re overthinking it. Your good fortune is still ahead of you."
"What good fortune?" Anne thought that if it weren’t for her obsession with seeing Charles Prescott fall—the one thing keeping her going—she wouldn’t even want to live anymore.
’Living is just so exhausting!’
Hearing her question, Nathan said, "Being with me. That’s your good fortune."
"Who would even want that kind of good fortune?" Anne said. "Don’t you know what your own temper is like?"
’He’ll be the death of me sooner or later.’
"Then why don’t you tell me? What is my temper like?"
He sat on the edge of the bed, and after hearing her words, he leaned in, staring at her from up close.
Anne looked at the man before her. His face was so close his eyelashes could have brushed against her skin. Because of the proximity, Anne held her breath, watching Nathan. She found it strange. Even though she lived with him every day, she still got nervous whenever he suddenly moved in this close.
Nathan watched her. "Go on," he said.
His voice was low and deep.
Anne looked at him. "What am I supposed to say? Am I not allowed to say you have a bad temper?"
"With you, my temper is already very good!" Nathan said. "I don’t treat you the way I treat other people."
"Why?" Anne asked. "Why don’t you treat me like you treat everyone else?"
"..." Nathan’s eyes darkened at her words. "You should be glad that, as far as I’m concerned, you still have some appeal."
"..." *Ahem.*
Anne knew what he meant. He still desired her physically, didn’t he?
’That was her only use to him!’
Anne looked at Nathan. She knew it wasn’t just that he desired her body—it was that it *had* to be her.
He wasn’t comfortable with other women.
Anne said, "I guess I really should be thankful, then! Otherwise... you wouldn’t even give me the time of day."
"Good, as long as you know." Anne pushed him away. "Get away from me. I don’t want to see you—just looking at you makes my foot seem to hurt more."
’Even if it was true, some truths were just too hurtful!’
...
A short while later, there was a knock at the door.
Nathan called out, "Come in."
Chloe Chase stood in the doorway. "Young Master, Ms. Sutton."
When Anne saw Chloe Chase, for a moment she felt as if Anna Linden herself had arrived. She hastily pushed Nathan away from her.
Nathan said, "What is it, Mrs. Chase?"
Chloe Chase walked in with a smile. "Butler Walters is back with the medicine. I heard Ms. Sutton was injured, so I came to take a look."
She was holding the medicine Butler Walters had brought back and walked over, glancing at Anne on the bed.
Anne quickly said, "I can manage on my own."
Chloe Chase turned to Nathan. "Young Master, let me apply Ms. Sutton’s medicine."
Anne glanced at her. "Really, there’s no need."
Chloe Chase said, "I’m Dr. Linden’s assistant, and I used to be a doctor. I’m more than capable of handling this. You can ask the Young Master if you don’t believe me."
After speaking, she looked toward Nathan.
Nathan was already worried about Anne, so he said to her, "Just let her handle it."
Anne was careless with herself, but Nathan couldn’t be so nonchalant.
So, Chloe Chase came over, pulled back the covers, examined Anne’s foot, and applied the medicine.
She then said to Nathan, "I’ll take care of Ms. Sutton for the next two days. Young Master, why don’t you go get the little young master to bed. Rest assured, I’m here. I will take good care of Ms. Sutton."
