Chapter 201: Chapter 201 Test
Xavier scanned the faces of the girls there, and to his surprise, Mia and Freya were among them, along with Cynthia; those were the girls he knew.
Seeing that both of them were safe, he let out a small sigh of relief without realizing it.
Xavier began walking forward as the girls gathered together and finally he was in front of them.
Mia and Freya couldn’t believe their eyes, Xavier who was thought to be dead was right in front of them, with hardly any injuries on his body and behind him was a lady with horns which they knew wasn’t human.
The most surprised was Mia as she was there when Xavier was sent away. She ended up fighting the girl till she retreated and after that the entire kingdom was searched but to no avail, so Xavier was thought to be dead.
One of the girls stepped forward standing right in front of Xavier, "I was told someone was coming to join the team, I had no idea it was a male, and one considered to be dead. How did you survive?" She asked.
"If I try to explain, the story would take all day. I simply did what I had to and survived...my name is Xavier, this is Star," Xavier spoke, addressing the rest of the girls.
Since he knew only three of the ten, the other girls introduced themselves. Among them were three members from the army who were done with their academy days, three third-year students, and one second-year student.
The girl who approached him wasn’t a student of the academy and the leader of the group, her name was Ada.
"Does your survival have something to do with the beastkin behind you?" Ada asked referring to Star who immediately turned towards her.
At first Star wasn’t paying attention to any of the girls; she didn’t care about them after all. She was busy looking at the surroundings brimming with mana, then Ada spoke.
"Her name is Star, and yes I brought her alone because she’s strong" Xavier replied.
"Alright, I was told to test your capabilities, and since she’s joining, I’ll test her’s too, pick someone to duel with, and not one of your classmates" Ada replied.
Mia and Freya were simply staring at Xavier, wanting him to talk to them, but Xavier didn’t. Cynthia didn’t care for him that much, but of course, she still couldn’t forget that night.
"I want to go first" Star uttered stepping forward.
Xavier knew exactly why and who she was going to pick to face; he had no idea how powerful the girls really were, but since they were chosen, there must be a reason.
"I pick you," Star pointed to Ada.
"Me, you want to face me...just so you know, I’m the strongest among them and the duel is to measure your fighting prowess and magical abilities. If I go all out you won’t be able to do much," Ada replied and Star chuckled.
"Haha...I won’t be able to do much, you must be referring to yourself" Star spoke as she cracked her neck and stepped forward.
Ada nodded and the rest of the girls moved away as she walked towards the spot Xavier had seen the girls dueling earlier, and before Star followed her Xavier tapped her shoulder.
"Please don’t get angry and turn into a dragon, I can’t explain that now, just try to limit yourself" Xavier spoke.
"I’ll try my best" Star replied as she continued.
’Well... It’s a good time as any to watch a duel, also a good way to gauge her fighting abilities. How did Freya and Mia make it to the team? I didn’t even think about that’
"Still as stealthy as ever," Xavier spoke as he knew Mia was standing behind him.
"I thought you were died" Mia replied as Xavier turned around.
"I thought so too, but I was just telepor..."
Mia hugged Xavier before he could finish his sentence. A smile formed on Xavier’s face as he wrapped his arms around her too.
After some seconds she finally pulled away and Xavier could see a drop of tears on her cheeks which she wiped away. Freya who thought Mia was still beside her turned to witness the scene but turned her focus back to the match.
"You can pick any weapon, wooden or steel, which do you prefer?" Ada asked her.
"I don’t need weapons" Star replied as she balled her fingers together.
"Barehanded, finally someone I can actually spar with" Ada spoke.
"I don’t think your beastkin friend wants to face Ada barehanded, she’s too powerful," Mia said to Xavier but he just smiled and continued watching.
Both of them stood a few steps away from each other, with nobody really officiating the match, and Ada simply dashed forward.
Seeing Ada rush towards her, Star didn’t move from her spot and watched every step with calm eyes, but truly, Ada was actually fast.
She closed the distance in an instant and threw a fist straight towards Star’s face. Star reacted immediately raising her arm to block the strike and she did block it but Ada had already followed up with a second strike.
Before Star could react, Ada drove her elbow into Star’s ribs immediately following up with a spinning kick aimed at her head.
Star barely managed to raise her arm in time and the kick crashed against her guard forcing her to slide several steps backwards leaving marks on the sand.
’Damn, that has to hurt’ Xavier mumbled in his head.
Ada didn’t stop after gaining the advantage; she rushed in again, throwing punch after punch without giving Star a second to catch her breath.
Every strike flowed perfectly into the next as she attacked with punches, elbows, knees, and kicks. She was definitely the best Xavier had seen when it came to hand combat.
Though Star blocked most of the attacks, each of them carried incredible force and even when defending she found herself being pushed back little by little.
