Chapter 1892: Chapter 1892 Midnight’s Alert

After a while, Ye Liuyun finally put down the crossbow in his hand, and then he continued to walk forward, pulling along Zhao Mingcheng.

"What was that just now?" Zhao Mingcheng queried.

"It was a porcupine. It spotted us but didn’t dare to approach closer. It wandered about twenty to thirty steps away from us before it wandered off!" Ye Liuyun muttered.

"Why didn’t you kill it then?" Zhao Mingcheng asked, sounded regretful.

"The crossbow won’t kill it. Its skin is thick and tough. Making it exceptionally difficult to be killed! Even if we did kill it, could you carry it?” Ye Liuyun countered.

Zhao Mingcheng didn’t fully understand the situation until then. Carrying the enormous anaconda had already worn her out, so she would probably be too exhausted if she had to carry the porcupine too.

Ye Liuyun and Zhao Mingcheng carried on strolling when Ye Liuyun suddenly shot out a palm attack toward a direction in the distance. Soon after, Zhao Mingcheng heard a feral beast’s roaring cry.

Ye Liuyun stabbed out with his dagger right away.

A wolf-like howl echoed in the distance Zhao Mingcheng thought that the feral beast was probably wounded.

After that, Ye Liuyun led Zhao Mingcheng to the base of a tree.

This time, instead of having Zhao Mingcheng climb the tree, Ye Liuyun climbed up and took down the bag.

Then, Zhao Mingcheng carried it, with Ye Liuyun leading them back safely to the ruined temple.

As soon as Zhao Mingcheng put down the feral beast’s body she was carrying, Ye Liuyun dug out the Virtuoso from the corpse and told her to discard the body.

"Throw it far away. Don’t attract other feral beasts!" Ye Liuyun warned her.

"This b*stard is treating me like a servant!" Though Zhao Mingcheng secretly cursed, she was forced to obey. After all, she knew she couldn’t defeat Ye Liyun.

Ye Liuyun used this occasion to determine how many drugs the martial practitioner was carrying with him. He had to amass more than one hundred and fifty of them.

"This loot isn’t bad!" Ye Liuyun as he swallowed another Elixir.

The Elixir was beginning to take effect. it helped to condense his physical body.

He also began work on his armour. He fashioned a huge leather bag, especially for keeping the Elixirs and personal storage and carried it on his back to lighten the load. He even removed the arm and leg armour components.

It wasn’t until Zhao Mingcheng threw the bodies outside that he returned to rest.

Ye Liuyun told Zhao Mingcheng, "You stay watch at the door tonight; I’ll replace you after two hours."

"Aren’t you afraid I will kill you?" Zhao Mingcheng retorted.

"Oh yeah! Then you go stand guard outside," Ye Liuyun casually replied. He then lay down far against the wall, completely ignoring her.

Zhao Mingcheng merely went to the door but didn’t walk out.

The temple was illuminated with fire, if she went outside, she’d be an easier target. She wouldn’t be able to see the beasts, but they could easily spot her.

Not long after, the sound of feral beasts and their fighting could be heard from outside the temple and it sounded close.

Ye Liuyun was startled awake and immediately picked up his crossbow.

"Where did you throw the corpses when I asked you to?" Ye Liuyun asked Zhao Mingcheng.

"About a hundred steps away, I think," Zhao Mingcheng responded, sounding somewhat embarrassed.

"You...Didn’t I tell you to throw it far away?" Ye Liuyun was pissed off.

"I didn’t want to meet a feral beast on the way!" Zhao Mingcheng explained.

"I’m sure there wasn’t even a feral beast in the woods at that time, that’s why I told you to go far!" Ye Liuyun said helplessly.

"Ding!"

A sound came from the warning line outside. Ye Liuyun and Zhao Mingcheng immediately stopped talking.

He quietly approached the window, sticking his crossbow out through a gap in the wooden boards of the window, and aimed it at a huge demonic wolf.

The demonic wolf also halted in its tracks, eyeing the old, ruined temple.

It seemed to have realised that this was an ambush and that it might have stepped into a trap.

It waited for some time, and when it saw no movement inside, it assumed they were patient too, and it quickly retreated without getting any closer.

Ye Liuyun’s Golden Phantom Eyes had seen that the pack of Demonic wolves had devoured the three corpses. The pack of Demonic Wolves circled the area for a while, then left together without coming closer to the temple.

"A pack of demonic wolves, and they’ve left." After they left, Ye Liuyun told Zhao Mingcheng before he laid back down.

"Should I move those corpses a little farther away?" Zhao Mingcheng also felt a little sorry.

"If you want to die, go! This is the time when feral beasts are most active. And those three bodies had been eaten by the Demonic Wolves, leaving only skeletons!" Ye Liuyun said before going right back to sleep.

He had to make the most of his rest time to be ready for the fight tomorrow. However, he was constantly cautious around Zhao Mingcheng and refrained from falling into deep sleep.

Luckily, these martial practitioners did need some sleep. But because their genuine energy was still content, they didn’t need to sleep for a particularly long hour.

Before dawn, Ye Liuyun got up, letting Zhao Mingcheng have some rest. He then took another pellet of Elixirs and found a stone to start sharpening his Blade.

Though it was the right length and weight for him, the knife he had just stolen wasn’t sharp enough.

He spent some time sharpening the knife before starting to roast the meat. When daylight finally dawned, he woke Zhao Mingcheng after he had had his full and let her grill her meat food supply.

Ye Liuyun, on the other hand, shut his eyes to rest.

Zhao Mingcheng, in contrast, had a sound sleep.

"How nice it would be if there was water to wash my face!" Zhao Mingcheng sighed.

"There’s water in the vat, it’s clear water, and usable!" Ye Liuyun said with his eyes closed.

"Huh?" Zhao Mingcheng then ran over, and sure enough, there was clear water inside.

"Your eyes, they’re amazing! How did you learn this skill?" Zhao Mingcheng asked in admiration.

But Ye Liuyun didn’t respond to her.

She didn’t mind and scooped up the water with her hands to rinse her face, and planned to wash her hair afterwards.

Originally, martial practitioners could utilise their true force to propel all the filth on their bodies, but ever since they came here, she hadn’t had the chance to shower. Her hair was sticky in bunches, completely losing her decent appearance.

"Do you make yourself so attractive out of fear that I won’t have bad intentions? Or are you worried that other martial practitioners won’t find you attractive?" Ye Liuyun asked.

Zhao Mingcheng was startled and instantly splashed all the water she had scooped up onto the ground.

She instantly retorted, "Right! Safety is more important, as for my appearance, let’s talk about it after we get out!"

She wiped her hands against her clothes, then smeared a handful of dust on her face.

Then she asked Ye Liuyun, "What are we doing today?"

"We will rush to the arena and hunt for martial practitioners along the way. How long will it take us from here to the arena?" Ye Liuyun asked her.

"Probably a month or two..." Zhao Mingcheng estimated.

"Do you not know the way?" Upon hearing her uncertainty, Ye Liuyun abruptly opened his eyes and stared at her.

"How can you accuse me of not knowing the way?" Zhao Mingcheng asserted her defence, despite her lack of confidence.

Ye Liuyun withdrew his gaze and simply said, "Your Elixirs are all used up for today. Eat some roast meat to replenish your energy. We need to get back on the road soon!"

"So what if they are all used up!" Zhao Mingcheng replied, not realizing the significant role of the Elixirs.

Most people who came here used Elixirs as a resource to make money, and few would be willing to consume them.

However, these Elixirs, unless consumed continuously in sufficient quantities, the medicinal effect will not accumulate, and the body cultivation benefits will not be apparent.
