Chapter 1833: Chapter 1832: Creation
The flowing wind brushed past the deep forest as He Ao opened his eyes from the illusory state, glanced at the forest around him, then at the blazing Sun above his head.
He stretched out his hand, his fingertip tapping on the void, feeling the breeze flowing around him.
In this very moment, the world itself seemed to be stirring because of his actions; that bright sunlight appeared to flicker slightly, as though offering a ’Blessing’ to He Ao.
He Ao could clearly feel that his connection with the Martial Arts World had already far surpassed what it had been before.
This was completely different from when he had previously controlled the Martial Arts World; if before, his control over the Martial Arts World had been like pinching a single thread to lift a string puppet.
Then now, his connection with the Martial Arts World was more like thrusting his own hand into a puppet bag to manipulate a cloth puppet; though there was still a barrier, his connection with the world had become far more intimate.
The two were also drawing closer to Fusion.
He Ao raised his hand and gently pinched the void.
Faint white radiance gathered from all directions into his hand.
He watched this radiance as streaks of light were born within it.
This was the Law of Life, the Life Law he had ’repaired’, or rather ’reconstructed’.
The light gathered in his hand quivered softly, like the heart of a tiny Life beating for the very first time.
Immediately afterward, that pulsing radiance began to spread outward; in the center of He Ao’s palm, it wove together strands of pure white light.
Like the threads used to weave a doll, they wove out the shape of a flying bird.
This bird’s wings were full, its posture one of spread wings; it lifted its head to look toward the sky, as though gazing at something within the heavens.
And as the shape of this bird stabilized, the white radiance wrapping it gradually drew inward.
A magnificent crest of feathers upon its head, wings as lush as those of a mandarin duck, long golden feathers, slender and beautiful tail plumes like flowing clouds, and talons as powerful and elongated as those of a raptor.
As the radiance slowly faded away, a bird that did not exist at all in the real world, appearing sacred and noble, emerged before He Ao.
This was a ’bird’ He Ao had casually pinched into existence according to his own imagination.
Its form was vivid, as though it truly existed.
He Ao looked at the bird floating above his palm, then lifted his head slightly and blew a soft breath toward it.
Whoosh—
With a light, extremely subtle exhalation, blazing flames shot forth in an instant within the void, wrapping around the bird in He Ao’s hand.
The pupils of that bird suspended in his hand seemed, at that moment, to tremble ever so slightly.
Immediately after, its body was completely engulfed by the flames.
The raging fire burned its body, utterly incinerating the lingering radiance upon it.
The scorching heat wave brushed directly across He Ao’s cheek, gradually baking the trees in the surrounding forest dry.
Clang, clang—
At that moment, a clear, ringing cry sounded at once from within the flames.
Then, within that blazing inferno, a gigantic avian shape began to reveal itself.
The bird spread its beautiful, full wings, lowered its head to glance at He Ao before it, then lifted its head to look toward the sky,
Whoosh—
As tongues of fire danced between Heaven and Earth, a vast and resplendent figure burst out from the surging flames, soaring into the sky.
Its body grew ever larger as it broke free of the fire; in the blink of an eye, it had become a giant bird with a wingspan exceeding a hundred meters.
The giant bird’s eyes flickered rapidly; as though a sculpture had become a true Life, it flew toward the sky, seemingly intending to perch among the clouds.
Billowing auspicious clouds stretching for ten thousand miles emerged from one end of the Firmament and extended all the way to the other.
A howling gale carried rolling leaves, producing overlapping sounds like a symphony played by nature itself.
When that first cry rang out, the entire world heard the voice of this giant bird.
And with the assistance of this entire world, the bird’s speed grew ever faster.
Yet just as it was about to touch those white clouds, an invisible mark surfaced upon the sky; a massive crack faintly appeared, and the giant bird’s body collapsed with a thunderous crash, dissolving into endless scattered radiance and dust.
He Ao raised his head, his gaze fixed on the motes of dust scattering in the sky.
The auspicious clouds of the Firmament still hung above, and the earth’s symphony had only just begun.
The sky seemed to be raining a great storm of light, like a certain celebration of newborn Life, yet also like a certain funeral.
Before the scattered radiance could fall to the ground, it completely vanished.
Upon the earth, only the sound of wind through the forest remained, the whooshing like the world’s lament.
It had failed, yet in a certain sense, it had succeeded.
Standing in this wind, He Ao’s thoughts turned rapidly.
He had created a bird that had never existed in either the Main World or any dungeon world—a Life that had never existed before.
Of course, he was not yet strong enough to do so on his own, and the rules of the Martial Arts World had not been restored to such an extent.
Throughout the process, he had still relied on a trace of the Barrier Wood’s power.
In the system’s Legend, it was said that the Barrier Wood carried a bit of the Origin’s power of Creation that birthed all things.
But He Ao did not know how to draw it out; he could only use the Hellfire borne by the Barrier Wood to scorch.
He had not expected that something would actually be burned out.
Borrowing that faint, almost imperceptible trace of Origin power, He Ao created the first Life the Martial Arts World had seen since its destruction.
Though the overall ’lifespan’ of this Life might not even have lasted a full second, collapsing within a single instant,
It was still the very first Life of the Martial Arts World.
Even though the Martial Arts World had no self-awareness of its own, when facing this first Life, it still responded violently.
Yet aside from these ’orchestras’, this first Life received no support from the Martial Arts World at all.
He Ao withdrew his hand, watching as those gleams were completely extinguished within nature, and also gazing at that immense illusory scar in the sky.
That crack was so vast, like a gray eye lowering its gaze to watch this world that had long since been pronounced dead.
The entire world grew unreal in He Ao’s field of view as his consciousness once more sank into the depths of the world.
Scattered beams of light formed one colossal framework after another; He Ao stood between those frames, watching those constantly flickering radiances.
Among them, one white radiance was precisely the one he had just ’repaired’; that white light had not been struck by any impact, nor had it been broken, and it still maintained its original form.
However, above these beams of light, there was yet a vast, illusory ’rent’.
It was a dense and immense gray radiance, a great mountain spanning across these framework-lights.
One broken strand after another coiled within this rent, as though the ’fate’ from some unknown number of years ago was still destined to continue.
That was the power left by a good friend, intended to sever the civilization and vitality of the entire Martial Arts World.
Although that giant bird only lived for a fleeting instant, in that instant, He Ao had already seen enough.
The basis of the giant bird’s existence was that rule pointing toward Life that He Ao had just repaired.
That rule was operating; otherwise, even with the power originating in the Barrier Wood, the giant bird couldn’t have come back to life.
But that rule had not fully run its course; it was also within the range of his good friend’s power of "severing."
He Ao raised his hand, his body rapidly surfacing from the bottom layer of the world, and at the same time, the scenery around his body changed swiftly.
A small hillside appeared in his field of view, and a slender Longsword appeared in He Ao’s line of sight.
He Ao gazed at this Longsword and drew it out from the hillside.
The entire world shuddered violently.
Boom—
Mountain ranges collapsed, storms gathered and swept, and only the radiance on that silver Longsword remained dazzling and brilliant.
This sword was called Eternal Silence Mark.
It was the concretization of the power his good friend had left behind in the Martial Arts World.
When true vitality appears, the power of Eternal Silence Mark will manifest and sever this world’s vitality.
This targeting is not directed at Life itself; He Ao can enter the Martial Arts World at any time, and he once brought Ye Ying in as well, and none of them suffered an attack from Eternal Silence Mark.
This attack only strikes the Life born from the world itself; it will not attack "tourists" like He Ao.
And aside from Eternal Silence Mark, that Life rule itself also has problems.
Although this rule, after being modified by He Ao, has become nearly complete, its structure still has flaws; a light touch will shatter it.
Only by continuing to perfect the remaining related rules might a world capable of birthing Life be fully constructed.
He Ao lowered his head, gazing at the Eternal Silence Mark in his hand.
Moreover, it seems that if his good friend’s power isn’t dealt with, the Martial Arts World will never become a complete world.
Looks like the road ahead is still very long.
He Ao took a deep breath, and his consciousness once more sank into the depths of the world.
——
Nandu
As the rich aroma rushed into his nostrils, He Ao’s clone took a sip of the duck-blood vermicelli soup on the table, and then his movements suddenly paused.
"Tastes good, right?" Ye Ying watched He Ao’s actions, her eyes suddenly widening as she quickly asked.
"It’s pretty good," He Ao nodded slightly, picked up a piece of duck blood from the bowl with his chopsticks and took a bite, "this fragrance is too powerful, it’s directly making me hungry again."
"This shop can rank pretty high if you line up all of Nandu; it’s considered really tasty." Ye Ying nodded excitedly. She picked up a bun, took a quick bite, then drank another mouthful of vermicelli soup.
"Have you felt anything uncomfortable lately?" He Ao also took a sip of the soup and asked.
Ye Ying seems to have some kind of connection with the world will of the Main World, is a standard "child of fate," and can sense certain subtle things ordinary people can’t.
If Ye Ying feels something’s off, it might be that the Main World feels something’s wrong somewhere.
Although He Ao, now as a Martial Arts Angel, can easily perceive slight anomalies in the Main World, and can even, through intervention, directly smooth over the origins of a disaster,
as a Martial Arts Angel, He Ao has not received any direct feedback from the Main World; everything seems normal, but he still wants to see Ye Ying’s "reaction."
"Nothing uncomfortable?" Ye Ying looked at He Ao, took a sip of duck-blood vermicelli soup, then seemed to fall into some kind of contemplation.
"The more subtle kind, is there anything?" He Ao watched her and asked in a low voice, "Like some kind of sense of unease?"
"If you insist on saying something’s off," Ye Ying put down her bowl and chopsticks, propping her chin as if in deep thought, then she raised her head and looked at He Ao, "does insomnia count?"
"How long have you been insomniac?" He Ao asked directly.
"Just one night," Ye Ying scratched her head, "no matter what last night, I just couldn’t fall asleep."
"What does the insomnia feel like specifically?" He Ao continued to ask.
"Doesn’t feel like much," Ye Ying scratched her head, "just feeling very anxious, inexplicably anxious, really agitated inside, and then you can’t fall asleep."
She yawned. "Now that I mention it, it seems to feel a bit uncomfortable again."
"From roughly what time did it start?" He Ao asked in a low voice.
"It was late last night," Ye Ying let out a light sigh, "I was about to fall asleep, and once it got late at night, I just inexplicably started feeling anxious, and then couldn’t sleep."
"Alright." He Ao nodded slightly.
Given Ye Ying’s special identity and state, the appearance of this kind of anxiety is very likely some invisible "reminder."
"So did something happen?" Ye Ying looked at He Ao and asked cautiously, "Do you have any special feelings, sir?"
"Nothing much, just a vague sense of unease," He Ao ate a piece of duck blood and took a sip of soup, "I keep feeling like I’ve overlooked something, but no matter how I think, I can’t recall it, and it also seems like I’m just overthinking."
"So you’re investigating this now?" Ye Ying asked softly.
"More or less." He Ao nodded lightly.
"Boss, check please!" Just then, a customer sitting beside them stood up, rubbed his neck and shoulders, and as he walked toward the Boss, he spoke in a low voice.
He Ao watched this customer rub his shoulders and elbows, then lowered his gaze and swept his eyes over the situation in the shop.
Quite a few people were subconsciously rubbing their shoulders.
He Ao withdrew his gaze, just in time to see Ye Ying also rubbing her own shoulder, and he asked with some curiosity, "Your shoulder hurts too?"
"Not really," Ye Ying withdrew her hand and looked at the surrounding customers, "I’m just a bit curious—there are so many people with neck pain today. I’m seeing whether I can sense something specific from it."
"So what do you feel?" He Ao took a sip of soup and asked with a smile.
"Just very tired," Ye Ying said hesitantly, "I can feel that everyone’s pretty worn out, like they’ve been carrying some kind of heavy object, pressing down on their shoulders and necks the whole time, though it also feels a bit like it’s from bowing their heads for too long."
He Ao glanced at Ye Ying and nodded slightly. "I’ll note this down; it might be useful."
"I hope I can help you, sir." Ye Ying said excitedly.
"We’ll need to contact your brother later, see if we can gather the distribution range of people with neck soreness." He Ao nodded.
"Mm." Ye Ying nodded.
Buzz—
Just then, He Ao’s phone vibrated.
He raised his phone and answered the call.
"He Ao, it looks like we’ve collected some information over here in Beidu. When are you coming back?" Liu Zhengyun’s voice came from the other end of the line.
"I’m in Nandu, heading back right away." He Ao said quickly.
The sound of an old-fashioned steam whistle rang out in the depths of the void.
