Chapter 380: Upgrade Complete

Clang!

Levis Ann’s spear was sharp as ever. Coated with divine power, the spearhead whipped like a serpent, stabbing at my neck.

"Hraaagh!"

I let out a battle cry and swung the seax with all my might. Even with the tattoo buff active, I couldn’t deflect the spearhead without giving it everything I had. Anything less than my full power and I couldn’t beat Levis Ann.

Clang!

Sparks flew as our weapons glanced off each other. Unlike before, when I’d been pushed back one-sidedly, this time it was Levis Ann who was driven back ever so slightly. The force behind her spear had weakened.

"Hahaha, you’ve gotten weaker!"

"Shut up!!!"

Levis Ann let out a shriek and staggered backward. She planted the tip of her spear into the ground and gasped for air; something was clearly wrong. She kept crossing and uncrossing her legs, panting heavily.

"Haah, haah, I’ll kill, I’ll kill you...!"

"Then kill me right now!"

"Sh, shut up, please...!"

"You want to shut my mouth? I’m more than happy to oblige if it’s a 69!"

"You absolute son of a bitch!!"

Making an aroused woman lose her composure was my specialty. And when the opponent was someone stronger than me, I was all the more confident in my ability to run my mouth.

"How shall I service you? Granted, you deserve to be passed around every orc in the tribe, but if you surrender now, I’ll show mercy and keep the dishonor all to myself."

"You... I will kill you and pickle your head in salt...!"

"And I’ll capture you and pickle you in something else entirely. From now on, you’ll drink nothing but the stuff. Heh heh heh."

"...."

Levis Ann’s expression went stone cold. She looked like she was about to snap and do something drastic, and my heart dropped, wondering if I’d pushed the provocation too far.

’She’s not going to use that insane technique again, is she?’

It hadn’t even been that long since the last time, and she was going to use a technique powerful enough to blow away an entire city again? I raised one hand, bracing for the worst. The plan to subdue Levis Ann would have to...

"Knngh...!"

Wait. Levis Ann turned deathly pale and began to tremble violently. I quickly realized what that bizarre reaction was. Right there in the middle of the battlefield, a rich, female scent began wafting from Levis Ann. I spread my arms wide in welcome.

"Upgrade complete! Congratulations, Levis Ann! Your back hole is now officially a back-pussy!"

"...."

Levis Ann hung her head and said nothing. I’d been hoping for some kind of reaction, but she just kept drawing it out as if stalling, and I started to feel awkward on my end.

"What’s the matter? Feeling like you want to get pinned under me now? Surrender and I’ll spare the rest of your people."

"...I’m done."

"What?"

"I’m done. This is too disgusting. I can’t take this anymore. Why do I have to endure this humiliation...?"

When Levis Ann raised her head, her pupils had split into vertical slits. Remembering what she had looked like the last time she used that massive technique, my fists began to tremble.

"Luna!! Prepare to counter..."

Crack, crack crack.

Levis Ann’s body began to contort. Something horn-like started sprouting from her head, and silver scales emerged across her white skin. Those scales looked just like a snake’s.

"Wh, wh, what...?"

Before I could even get the words "what the hell" out, Levis Ann’s body continued to change. With a whoosh, silver wings unfurled from her back. They resembled the wings of a wyvern; no, of a dragon.

"Shit. We’re screwed."

I knew it instinctively. I, our entire legion, was well and truly screwed. I’d gone into this fight assuming a level 92 five-star opponent, and I never could have predicted a variable this absurd.

Ah, so this was what they called a polymorph.

Levis Ann had been a transformed dragon all along.

"All forces, retr..."

"Master, look!"

Lune cut off my order and pointed at Levis Ann. Knowing full well I was about to call a retreat, she’d interrupted me anyway. Rather than anger, bewilderment came first. Lune wasn’t the kind of girl who’d screw me over. So then...?

"...What the hell."

I let out a hollow laugh at Levis Ann, steam billowing from her mouth. With those vertically slit, bestial eyes, she had certainly begun to take on draconic features. She had become a dragonkin, what some might call a dragonian or a dragonewt: a being with the physical traits of a dragon.

"What are you?"

"...Half-dragon."

Levis Ann bared her sharp fangs and glared at me. The claws protruding from her hands looked even sharper than any Andras’s talons. In appearance alone, she looked more monstrous than any demon here.

Roaaaar.

And yet, a seemingly noble divine power swirled faintly around Levis Ann’s body. Having shifted from human to half-human, half-dragon, Levis Ann now radiated a far denser divine power than before as she surveyed her surroundings with a predatory gaze.

"I made a promise to the Saintess never to take this form again... but because of you lot, here I am...!"

"What? You gave up being human? Can’t you just transform back?"

"No!!"

Levis Ann snarled and pointed her claws at me. Her bloodshot eyes seemed to glisten with tears. I felt a twinge of guilt for no good reason.

"Uh... well... I think the deal is you fast on nothing but sacred herbs and water for a hundred days and you turn human again, or something like that. What’s the big deal anyway? Half-human, half-dragon, whatever you are... the fact that you’re a woman hasn’t changed."

The world had gone red from my activated tattoos, and maybe that’s why I couldn’t see straight.

"Now that I think about it, adding dragon-mounting to the list wouldn’t be so bad. Heh heh, I was gonna go easy on you if you were just a regular human, but a half-dragon? That changes things. I am definitely taking you."

"You’re... truly insane."

"You’d have to be insane to survive in a world like this. I got stronger to survive, and in trying to beat people stronger than me, I stopped caring about the means and methods. Congratulations; you’re stronger than me."

I pointed at my backside with one hand and grinned.

"But you think transforming is going to change much? You’ve got a Scar Theology actively working away inside you, and you can’t get it out on your own."

"...I just have to reach the Saintess. She can remove it."

"You think I’m going to let that happen?"

I swung the seax horizontally. Levis Ann swung her claws, brimming with divine power.

Slice, slice.

It had been well-forged steel, and yet the seax was torn apart along the shape of Levis Ann’s claws. I got chills at that terrifying cutting power. One touch from those claws and even I’d suffer a grievous wound.

"Every claw is as sharp as the spearhead you were using. Bold of you, though. You damaged someone else’s property without permission, so you’ll have to pay for that."

"You are truly unbelievable."

Levis Ann tilted her chin up high and twisted the corner of her mouth.

"What gives you such arrogance? I’ve shown you my true form. You’re as good as dead."

"Hey, can you not see the state of the battle?"

I pointed beyond the elven perimeter.

Demons and humans were locked in a life-or-death standoff, but the tide had begun to shift in our favor. The ultimate difference between the Demon King’s Army and the human alliance, whether you had multiple lives or just one, had decided the outcome.

"We fight without fear of death. But look. People are starting to run, one by one."

"...."

Levis Ann said nothing. There was no one left by her side.

The priests who had attended her had long since been cut in half by me or fled to save their own skins, and with the chain of command shattered, the subjugation force’s soldiers were losing the will to fight one by one.

"The moment they smell defeat, the adventurers bolt from the battlefield. The barony’s soldiers have given up after learning Spica Castle was taken. A few try to go down fighting, but they’re just rank-and-file too weak to handle our troops. And on top of all that...."

Wriggle. I picked up a Scar Theology crawling along the ground.

"These little guys are roaming the battlefield and incapacitating soldiers. How many humans do you think can clench their way through it like you?"

"...Now I’m starting to get the picture. I see why you’re so arrogant. You think wiping out the ’subjugation force’ counts as your victory?"

"Obviously. This battle belongs to our legion. If I’d been fighting alone, I never would’ve made it this far. It’s only possible because my capable subordinates had my back."

"...I agree with that. When all you’ve got around you is dead weight, nothing gets done. On that note."

Stomp! Levis Ann stamped the ground hard. Her divine power took on a murderous edge and began glinting toward me like a blade.

"Today, I’ll hand you the victory. But next time will be different. The moment I march in with my Holy Knights, your head will be pickled in salt."

"Hey, what makes you so sure you’re just gonna waltz out of here?"

"What makes you so sure you can stop me?"

Levis Ann beat her wings and began to rise slowly. At the sight of her preparing to flee, my mouth went dry.

"You think people are going to be thrilled if you fly off like this? The commander of the Holy Knights revealed her true form and then abandoned her people to run!"

"Not my concern. You think losing a petty little barony is enough to shake everything I’ve built? I just come back with my Holy Knights and take it again."

’Damn.’

Half-hearted provocations weren’t going to bring Levis Ann back down. She was already completely disillusioned with this entire battlefield.

"Hey, are you seriously running?! Huh?! Do you know how long I’ve been itching to have you, and you’re just gonna bolt?! If you fly off alone, what happens to the rest of them?! Even if I take every last one of those thousand-plus humans, you’re still running?!"

"Go right ahead."

Levis Ann twisted the corner of her mouth and flapped her wings. She floated up to her own height above the ground. I flung the ruined seax aside and clenched my fists.

"Hey! Subjugation force! Look at that! Your commander is running away!"

"Hmph."

Levis Ann beat her wings and shot upward. At Lune’s direction, the elves frantically fired arrows skyward, but they couldn’t reach her. With just a light flap of her wings, Levis Ann had swatted away every wind arrow aimed at her.

"Fools. You think this is enough to..."

"Luna Cannon, fire!"

Luna burst from the ranks of the elves and arched her back toward the sky. She lifted her top to reveal her lower abdomen, where her stigmata flashed and a beam lanced into the night sky.

"Hngh!"

Levis Ann slashed at the Luna Cannon with her claws. They split it clean in two, and the Luna Cannon, our trump card held in reserve for a surprise strike, proved completely useless.

"Damn it, damn divine power!"

Just as Luna’s power was rooted in divine power, Levis Ann also wielded it, which was precisely why the Luna Cannon had no effect.

"Farewell, you wretched demons. I’ll be back for this pitiful barony soon enough. With my Holy Knights...!"

Levis Ann began gliding away at a leisurely pace, as if mocking us. The subjugation force’s soldiers watched her wobble through the night sky and, one by one, let out hollow laughs.

"She’s... abandoning us?"

"O Goddess...!"

With Levis Ann’s escape, the battle was effectively our victory. But letting her flee like this was as good as a defeat for us.

"Damn, there has to be a way...."

Levis Ann’s speed through the air wasn’t fast at all. Her wingbeats were clumsy, and the way she swayed now and then suggested she wasn’t used to being in her true form.

"If we fly after her, she’ll carve us to pieces. Even if I send Andras or harpies after her... damn. In a situation like this...."

As my eyes swept the area, they landed on one thing. Maybe, just maybe, ’that’ could work.

"Lune, Luna! Help me! I’m going after Levis Ann, and I’m betting my life on it!"

I wasn’t letting her go.

***

"Hngh, hnngh...!"

Levis Ann flew slowly, swaying as if drunk. Abandoning her human body and returning to her true form had already left her unaccustomed, and with that disgusting monster thrashing around in her belly on top of it, she was on the verge of losing her mind.

Gurgle, gurgle.

"Haahh...."

Levis Ann wanted desperately to see the Saintess. Only the Saintess could calm her body, which that lewd bug had set ablaze. Every time the thing thrashed, her lower abdomen flared with heat and her wings nearly gave out, but Levis Ann barely held herself together and flew toward the Leo Marquisate.

"J, just a little more...."

BOOM!!

A massive explosion rang out. An instinctive chill ran through her, the feeling of something hurtling straight at her, and Levis Ann spun around.

"Where do you think you’re going?"

"Wha..."

The orc she could have chewed up and spat out was soaring through the sky with both arms spread wide, heading straight for her. Levis Ann couldn’t fathom how an orc had gotten airborne.

"If you’re leaving, at least give me a goodbye lay!"

He latched on. The orc buried his face in Levis Ann’s chest. As he clung to her, arms locked around her waist, the sheer weight forced Levis Ann to beat her wings frantically.

"Y, you lunatic...!"

Levis Ann tried to swing her razor-sharp claws. But something seized her wrists with crushing force.

"Wh, what?!"

"Heh heh, hi there. Where do you think you’re running off to?"

Behind the orc, an elf was clinging on and gripping both of Levis Ann’s wrists. The Elf Guardian, even stronger than the orc, held Levis Ann’s wrists tight so she couldn’t attack.

"H, how did you fly all the way up here...?!"

"Got you! Luna, hold on tight!"

"Eeek?!"

Levis Ann’s scales bristled across her entire body at the revolting sensation between her legs. Half-dragon though she was, the entrance to her womanhood was no different from a human’s, and something soft yet hard and searing hot grazed against it.

"Hey, Levis Ann."

The orc whispered from between her breasts, clinging to her like a sloth.

"I’m going in."

Creak.
