Chapter 38: " I want such an ability..."
Hu and Fort said as they shared an understanding look. For such a massive project,if they put there backs into it,it would be done by noon of the next day.
"Also,I would not have you work for free..."
Leo said.
"Really...?"
The young woman who had been silent since morning suddenly spoke out,though her voice was filled with doubt. To her,the thought of working so hard for nothing was against her nature. To her,wealth mattered more.
"And here I thought you only knew how to grunt and glare..."
Leo could not help but take a verbal jab at her.
"Hm...!"
And just as he had imagined,the young woman replied with a grunt,making the other two shake their heads.
"This woman..."
The three could only sigh and choose to ignore her.
"The two of you will receive thirty copper coins for a days work..."
Leo said to Hu and Fort.
"As for you,you will receive twenty copper coins..."
"Hm...!"
The grunt and glare that followed Leo’s word made him shiver,but he stood firm. There was no way he was going to pay this young woman a similar amount as the two men yet her assigned task was not comparable to the heavy lifting of the two.
"Thank you young lord..."
The two men said as Leo dismissed everyone.
Hu and the young woman went towards the fire pit where the dry grass was burnt to make the the ash paste, while the middle aged man,Fort, found a long pole from the system sweep. Leo watched the man place the pole against a stone from the uncommon ranked chest and using the saw,he cut out a one foot pole. Since each stone was a foot long,he had decided to use the stone as a base for his measuring pole.
"Why had I not thought of that...?"
Leo felt like pinching himself. He had thought of everything else but failed to realize the most obvious thing.
How were they going to get the accurate measurements.
"That actually is quite effective..."
Leo mentally complemented the middle aged man idea. After cutting out the one foot measuring pole,he had placed the remaining pole over a piece ot wood from the system issued uncommon ranked chests. The pieces of wood were six feet long.
After sawing a six feet long pole,he went ahead and sawed out a foot from the six feet, ending up with a five feet measuring pole. He then found another twelve feet long pole and sawed of two feet from it. Now he had three measuring poles,a one foot measuring pole,a five feet measuring pole and a ten feet measuring pole.
With these three,he walked towards the centre where the foundation for the young lord’s house was and started mapping out the grounds. Fort marked every ten feet using sticks.
"It seems that I had not thought of most of the crucial things...?"
Leo shook his head as he left the clearing. He only had one thing planned for his day,and that was challenging the top floors of the mysterious tower,but before that,he decide to first move everything from the old hideout to the clearing.
"I do recall there was a small tent amongst the loot..."
Leo thought as he ran towards the old hideout.
His inventory was cleared,well apart from four slots. One was occupied by the mysterious tower,the other by the jade like token purchased from the young woman,the other by the mysterious gem that had made the tree mutate and the forth slot housed the three beast cores in his possession.
Also,he had switched his stone blade for the foot long iron blade.
The iron blade though a rough piece of work,was a hundred times better as compared to his old stone blade. He had sharpened the edge by rubbing it against a wet stone. Leo beleived that if he were to faced the forest dire wolves again,a single strike would be enough to decapitated them.
"Where are those damn wolves..."
The thought had just closed his mind when his instincts screamed for he to dodge,and he did just that,only for a large shadow to pass at the corner of his eye.
"Did I jinx myself...!"
Leo exclaimed as he fell,and quickly rolled towards a tree. He swifly rose,drew his blade and assumed a defensive stance,ready to strike,parry and defend all at once.
"So big..."
Leo could not help but swallow. It was not that he was afraid of the opponent glaring at him,but it size was what shock him.
Before him stood a six feet long forest dire wolf,it far was a shade darker,it fangs were not just long and menacing but dripped of a dark green fluid,and it eyes were pitch black. Every drop of the dark green fluid that dripped on the ground make the vegetation wither.
"Are you a snake or a wolf...?"
Leo jokingly asked the dire wolf as he inspected its attribute,all the time keeping out an eye on his surroundings,as he had discovered several shadows lingering in the bushes and behind trees.
"When did I ever get surrounded...?"
Leo wondered. He had been keeping an eye out for any signs of danger,but somehow,he still got himself in such an obvious ambush.
But Leo found an answer the moment he went through the status of the forest dire wolf that was growling at him,ready to tear him into pieces.

As an alpha,the Mutated Forest Dire Wolf has the ability to veil the presence of the pack against those weaker than it.
" I want such an ability..."
Leo thought as he decided to make his move. This opponent had the ability to corrode his newly forged iron blade,and there was no way he was going to sit back and just wait for it to attack. And also,he had to force the other wolves out.
