Chapter 38: Last Day In The Simulation
The Stadium used as the defensive main base in Stormguard was once an arena used for massive public gatherings in the nation and even international contests, the arena was one of the biggest all across the nations of Dyteria and also the biggest in the nation.
The interior of the stadium was divided into five different sections and chambers with over forty thousand humans still living in the stadium, unlike back in Arizona the humans in the main base were all given standard military training regardless of status and former titles, creating an impressive force of over forty thousand soldiers although only two thousand were actually combat ready it was still a very impressive force to behold.
"When will the next tide you mentioned arrive?" Draxus asked Isaac who was walking beside him, they had all alighted from the trucks which were then driven to some unknown location Draxus didn’t care about.
"That I don’t know, I would have to check with the command center to get the correct information so you’ll have to hold on for a while or just follow me to make things easier." Isaac replied then turned to leave.
Draxus followed after Isaac but paused with a start as he recalled his quest to protect Dave till the timer for the first Simulation elapsed.
’Huh, system Orion, can you help me place a tracker on him or something? That would help a lot you know?’
{Okay}
’Wow you’re so compliant today, are you in a good mood?’
{Yes, can’t I be?}
’I doubt so, you’re either rude, annoyed, or just angry for no reason at all.’
{I have a clear reason to be angry}
’Yea okay, it’s all good, we’re cool.’ He replied then followed Isaac, with the system keeping tabs on Dave he just had to ensure nothing happened to the kid or him, survive for the next three days then exit the simulation.
’That bastard Henry, he’d better stay in his lane or he would definitely regret his existence once I get my hands on him.’ he thought with fists clenched, he still couldn’t forget the mocking grin Henry gave him before killing or the torture he had to pass through when he saw arch-magus Adrian get killed right before his eyes.
"Where are you headed to?" A deep muscular voice woke Draxus up from his momentary reverie, he raised his eyes to see a middle aged man in his early forties with broad shoulders and unshaved moustache walk towards him, his posture and appearance gave off a feel of confidence that couldn’t be matched.
His very person screamed a single word "Authority!"
’Who is he?’
"You’re wondering who I am?" The man asked then gestured towards the soldiers standing nearby, they all saluted the man and screamed out.
"Field Marshal James!"
"F-Field marshal?" Draxus asked in surprise, he couldn’t expect he would meet someone of such status here.
"Don’t be so surprised, I noticed your energy fluctuations and decided to come over to check who exactly it was, Isaac told me a little about you and I think you can still be trusted a little bit still. I’m not willing to leave the lives of over forty thousand lives to mere assumptions, you’ll have to conduct a few researches and tests with me if you won’t mind." James said, his words oozing with confidence and authority but Draxus simply tilted his head in response.
"Researches??"
"Yes, you don’t have to be so guarded though, they won’t hurt or harm you so you’ll be alright."
Draxus tilted his head to the side then asked after a few seconds "What sort of experiment could a field marshall possibly conduct?"
"What sort of experiment can’t I conduct? What do you think a field marshall is?" James asked with a frown.
"A marshall on the field? The sort you send out to do the tough field work."
"--"
"Right?" Draxus asked, suddenly doubtful of his very own words.
Isaac who was standing nearby suddenly couldn’t help but facepalm himself ’Just how does his thought process work?’
"He’s the field marshall, highest commanding officer in the base. Not some field agent do you understand?"
Draxus couldn’t believe his ears the moment he heard Isaac’s words, ’System, what’s a field marshall?’
{A Field Marshal is the highest military rank in many armies, typically awarded only in wartime or for exceptional military leadership}
"What the he--"
"I would love it if we leave now, I have a lot to ask you in the coming days." James said then turned to leave.
Draxus turned to Isaac who shoved him forward and said "If you want to know about the tide and their time elapses, what exactly happened and what the corruption is it would be better if you follow him."
{Can’t believe you’re so dumb you can’t even define a field marshall, this level of stupidity is crazy, I think I need to reevaluate your intelligence value}
’That’s enough.’ he thought, obviously embarrassed by his own blunder then continued ’Besides, I don’t think the intelligence value you seem to reflect actually works, I can’t notice that much difference aside from processing things faster than normally.’
{It does, unlike the other stats it works based on how you actually utilize it, it’s only other main function is it’s nana increase function and increased chanting among a few others}
{Applying them in normal day to day situations would require you to just have a mix of common sense and how to utilize your intellect but you’re apparently a different case and can’t even do that}
’Okay I’ve heard you.’ Draxus replied before following after James, fully aware she wouldn’t stop her slandering routine if he didn’t stop it.
---
For the next two days Draxus spent his time in the main base, going along with James’ multiple weird experiments and questions once in a while but escaping once things got a little too tough for him, if he really wanted to avoid their questions he could’ve but he still choose to go to James once in a while to ask questions about the corruption which always left him stupefied, such as the fact that the corruption also had reproductive capabilities and treated its corrupted creatures as part of its organs and tissues.
It was essentially a race of its own and not just a substance sealed away, there was a possibility that a race existed with the same abilities as the first corruption source sealed before it was split apart, just the thought of it alone scared him to no ends!
On the Fourth day, just barely twenty four hours left for the first Simulation to come to a close, just when Draxus thought the day would pass by just like the rest he had to face the toughest challenge of his life.
