Chapter 39: The Last Day In The Simulation! {Unexpected Side Quest}

"The Field Marshall called for you." One of the soldiers called out to Draxus who was busy... Sleeping.

"Tell him I’ll come over later, I’m pretty busy right now." Draxus replied with a yawn, his eyes fixed on the quest tab and the timer.

{Quest Title: Dawn Of An Era}

{Main Quest: Survive for five days}

{Mission Completion Reward: To be distributed based on completion status and performance}

{Penalty For Failure: Simulation restart, pain modifier increased, difficulty increased}

{Time left: 0 days 8 hours 28 minutes and 12 seconds}

The soldier gave a short bow then turned to leave, Draxus ignored the minor disturbance and was about to drift off to sleep once again when the soldier returned.

"The marshall said he has the answer to the question you asked the last time you met."

Draxus’s eyes snapped open in an instant, he stood up from his spot then dashed for the door.

"He said he has an answer to it?" He said in an excited voice which surprised even the soldier sent to pick him up.

’What could it possibly be?’ pushing aside his own curiosity the soldier led Draxus to the advanced training ground which was originally a VIP room for guests before the calamity descended.

"He’s in there." The soldier then gave a salute before leaving.

Most of the soldiers in the base had come to know of this insanely strong teen, a superpower capable of dealing with cannon shots and missiles with his bare body!

The single power he possessed could defeat all the soldiers in the base... Of course that was if the soldiers weren’t armed, the weapons they had could give Draxus a lot of trouble and kill him once he was swarmed on.

Deep in his heart Draxus wished to face the soldiers when fully equipped to test the limit of his abilities but after all he had gone through, he just had to sit his ass still and he would be able to complete the first system upgrade mission, he didn’t wish to risk it.

’Such a pity.’

The door opened the moment he got close to it, revealing a spacious room over twenty meters wide used as the specialized training ground for top personnel.

He walked in to see six figures standing in the room, among them were Isaac and James, the other four were probably also general level figures he reckoned.

"You’re here." James said with a smile.

Draxus glanced round the room with a suspicious look on his face, what attracted his attention the most was a cuboidal box placed beside James, it was roughly three meters long and a meter wide, big enough it could accommodate two people at a time comfortably.

"What’s going on here? You said you had an answer to my question the last time but we’re suddenly in the training ground?"

James merely smiled in response then walked towards the box placed beside him "Just my thoughts but why would we just go through the theoretical aspects only? I thought we could have a practical based on it, I’ve also wanted to test it out for a long time you know?"

James’s words roused a sense of suspicion in Draxus, especially with the other generals nearby he felt there was more to what was going on and slowly stepped back towards the door.

"What do you mean? If I really am right then is that what I think it is?"

"Yes it is, you asked for it didn’t you?" James replied then pulled the strings of the boys open with a single tug, revealing an armor nearly three meters long with multiple screws and a streamlined surface, on its shoulders were two mounted cannon barrels with thrusters attached to its back.

"You see, I’ve also thought about what you suggested before and assigned a group of researchers we rescued from the national research facility to study it and we managed to create this masterpiece!" James said with a fanatical look on his face, clearly obsessed with the prospect of controlling whatever the armor was made of.

"And the repercussions?"

"None I know of, aside from a slight deviation from the normal thought process, caused by an interference with the human neurone cells and folds of course." James said then stepped into the suit of armor which opened up from the abdominal region to receive its wielder, the suit’s opening felt eerily similar to that of a huge demonic beast opening up its maw to receive its new prey.

’Of course he wouldn’t know of the repercussions! I have just an average of nine hours left in this damned simulation. Why can’t you just let me go in peace?!’

{It’s not really that hard actually, you’re making a big deal out of nothing}

’This isn’t a big deal??’

{Just beat him and drag him out of that armor, that easy}

’Right, I just have to beat him up, I have the lightning element that would affect mechanical equipment easily so this should be easy.’

{Ding! Side quest assigned!}

{Side Quest: Defeat The Field Marshall James!}

{Mission Reward: To be assigned after the first system upgrade according to host’s performance}

{Penalty for failure: To be assigned after the first system upgrade!}

"You seem lost, getting distracted when you’re facing me?" An husky voice came from the suit of armor which was obviously James’s.

The other five generals nearby stepped back to avoid the impact from the battle between the two, Isaac looked a little hesitant while watching the two but also chose to step back and avoid further conflict.

’I get the armor might be strong but does he think it’s enough to stand against me? Or could it really be that strong?’ Draxus thought, hesitating for a moment before he decided to attack anyways, he didn’t really have any other choice after all.

’There’s only a way to find that out and that’s to attack, No matter what I can’t lose badly at least!’ he thought then vanished from his position and appeared beside the armor with arms clenched tightly for a pinch against the suit’s outer coat.

Bang!

A dull ring echoed through the room, followed by the look of shock which appeared on Draxus’s face, his punch was totally absorbed by a coat of black energy that shielded the armor like a shell.

"What the fu--"

Boooooooommmm!!!!

"Don’t lose focus!"

{Ding! Host made contact with the quest target!}

{Ding! Quest Target’s information revealed!}
