Chapter 415: Chapter 304: Resolution (2)

This was all Valerie’s fault for mishandling what should have been a simple matter.

Cursing under his breath, he dialed his man at the airport and barked into the phone.

"Listen up! If that private jet on the runway even thinks about leaving, you stop it immediately! Do not let it take off, you hear me?!"

"God, who would’ve known Yves would find a sponsor that loaded? A Gulfstream G650... that plane alone is worth tens of millions."

Valerie, too, was now deeply regretting her magnanimity.

’If I’d just kept Fiona by my side...’

’None of this would have happened. I could have demanded an even higher price and really squeezed Yves for all he was worth.’

But now, the girl was gone, and so was the money.

A Pickup Truck screeched to a halt on the roadside.

Seeing it, Bao Wen sprinted over and yanked open the door. Just as he was about to get in, he turned to look at Valerie, who was still standing there looking regretful and lost.

"You stupid woman, get in the truck! Call Sheriff Ronnie and have him issue a warrant for Yves’s arrest, you hear me?!"

But Valerie just stared back blankly, her eyes wide with confusion. "Why tell the Sheriff? Can’t you just have your guys handle it? Getting the Sheriff involved is such a hassle."

Hearing her words, Bao Wen was utterly speechless, his face turning livid with anger. Without another word, he grabbed a fistful of Valerie’s blonde hair and forcibly dragged her into the vehicle.

At the same time, he ordered his subordinate to drive to the road leading out of town.

Once the truck started and began speeding down the road, Bao Wen, still muttering a stream of curses, yanked Valerie in front of him again. His face was a contorted mask of fury as he spoke.

"You stupid woman, can you try using that pig brain of yours for once? Is all your intelligence stored in your tits?"

"The court granted you custody of Fiona. Yves taking her out of Baird Town without permission is a violation of the visitation agreement. Since we have the law on our side, why would we stupidly resort to violence? What do you take me for, that moron Black Eye?"

"Let... go! I-I... I get it!" Valerie’s eyes welled up with tears from the piercing pain. Unable to bear it any longer, she begged for mercy while tremblingly fumbling for her phone to call the Baird Town Sheriff.

「Meanwhile.」

The two SUVs drove smoothly out of the small town, heading down the highway toward their destination.

Baird Town was under the jurisdiction of Kalah County, and the county seat, Clyde City, was located 10 kilometers away.

Clyde City was the largest city in Kalah County, with a population of about 4,040. While it might not be considered particularly large in the context of all of Texas, it was a reasonably sized city for the central part of the state.

Driving the SUV, Xia Li kept one eye on the road ahead while occasionally glancing at the rearview mirror.

And just like that, she spotted a beat-up Pickup Truck tailing them closely.

She tried slowing down to let the Pickup Truck pass. If it were a normal driver, they would have overtaken them.

But to her surprise, the Pickup Truck simply matched their speed, continuing to follow behind the SUV with no intention of moving on.

Feeling something was off, Xia Li quickly spoke up to warn Feng Shan.

"Mr. Feng, there’s a car following us."

Sitting in the car, Feng Shan frowned slightly upon hearing Xia Li’s words.

’I really hadn’t wanted things to come to this.’

He recalled his earlier negotiation with Valerie.

The first time, Valerie had quoted 500,000 US dollars.

If that whole unpleasant business of her trying to seduce him hadn’t happened...

...that price wasn’t entirely out of the question for further negotiation. They might have even reached a mutually agreeable outcome.

But who would have thought that the second time, she would get so greedy and demand 5 million US dollars right off the bat?

Her intention was too obvious. She was clearly determined to rip him off.

Feng Shan knew that if he agreed to this price, they would get a taste for it. They would undoubtedly turn Fiona into a cash cow, using her as an excuse to greedily demand more and more money.

Since they were the ones who broke the rules of the game first...

...they couldn’t blame him for not playing nice.

"Pull over. Have Yves go to the county courthouse and file the application first. I’ll handle the rest."

And so, the SUV gradually slowed and pulled over to the roadside.

The Pickup Truck that had been tailing them followed suit, stopping right behind.

Just then, a gust of wind howled past.

In an instant, sand and dust were violently swept up from the ground, forming a small cloud of grit.

The plastic trash and scraps of paper scattered on the roadside seemed to come alive, dancing wildly in the air. The whole scene was chaotic, yet it carried a distinct, grim, Western-style tension.

Feng Shan calmly stepped out of the vehicle. First, he reached up to adjust the cowboy hat on his head. Then he swept his waxed-leather duster to the sides, revealing a bullet-filled cartridge belt.

Treading in his mid-calf leather boots, he rested one hand on the holster of his revolver.

Like a fearless cowboy straight out of a movie, he walked step by step toward the Pickup Truck.

The two gang members in the Pickup Truck, who had been wondering how to stop the SUV, were stunned when they saw Feng Shan’s traditional cowboy attire.

They froze for a moment, then their eyes widened in astonishment.

They never would have imagined that Feng Shan’s whole demeanor was that of a tough-as-nails movie cowboy you don’t mess with.

Feng Shan quickly reached the front of the Pickup Truck. He bent down slightly, looking at the two terrified men inside. A faint, almost imperceptible smile touched his lips as he gently tapped on the window.

"Well, fellas, fancy meeting you here. Still having trouble holding it in? You guys must have some serious prostate problems, huh?" Feng Shan’s words were teasing, but his tone carried an elusive, oppressive weight.

The window slowly rolled down, revealing the familiar face of the white guy with the earring.

Meeting Feng Shan’s sharp gaze, the man’s heart pounded with fear, but he forced himself to hide his unease and stammered.

"I’m... warning you... you can’t take Fiona out of Baird Town. You’re violating Bao Wen’s... no, you’re violating federal law! You need to fucking... no, you need to cease this illegal activity immediately."

The man with the earring had tried to sound tough, but he only grew more nervous as he spoke, stumbling over his words. His attempt at bravado was completely transparent.

"You sure about that?"

Feng Shan didn’t get angry. He simply reached slowly for his holster. The movement seemed casual, but it made the two men in the truck hold their breath, their eyes glued to Feng Shan’s hand, hearts pounding in their chests.

Seeing him reach for his gun, the man with the earring turned pale with fright. He reflexively threw his hands up and yelled in a voice cracking with fear.

"Shit! Those weren’t my words! Boss Bao Wen told me to say that, for real! I wouldn’t dare make that up!"

"Your boss?" A smirk played on Feng Shan’s lips, but his eyes were calculating, as if judging the truth of the man’s words.

"That’s right, Boss Bao Wen. He’s on his way now. He told us to keep an eye on you and report your location." Seeing that Feng Shan wasn’t making a move, the man with the earring nodded frantically and quickly added, "We’re from the same town as Yves. We don’t want to see him like this either. It was Bao Wen who..."

"Call Bao Wen. Tell him your location." Feng Shan’s gaze fell on the phone sitting on the dashboard.

’If this Bao Wen character wants to come, then let him.’

’It’s a perfect opportunity to settle this once and for all and save myself the trouble later.’

The man with the earring turned to his partner, giving him a look that screamed, *Hurry up and make the call!*

His partner didn’t dare delay. He fumbled for the phone and quickly dialed. Before pressing the call button, he shot a cautious glance at Feng Shan, then tremblingly reported their current location. After hanging up, he looked at Feng Shan with a fawning expression.

"Boss Bao Wen is on his way."

"You just follow behind us." Seeing how cooperative they were, Feng Shan decided not to give them any more trouble. After all, they were just low-level thugs following orders.

With that, he turned and walked back to the SUV. After getting in, he said to Xia Li, "Keep driving. Just go a little slower."

"Feng, is there a problem?" Director Roland asked in a low voice, a worried expression on his face. He was clearly frightened.

Meanwhile, Nash drew a pistol from his waistband, ejected the magazine, and checked the action.

His eyes kept darting to the window, alert to any movement outside, as if he were ready to respond to an emergency at any moment.

This only deepened the worry on Director Roland’s face.
