Chapter 416: Chapter 305: Purpose
In the face of Director Roland’s worry,
Feng Shan, looking as if he had a plan, gave a relaxed wave of his hand, his face a mask of nonchalance.
"It’s not a big deal. I can handle it."
Soon,
The roar of a car engine grew louder as it approached from a distance.
Bao Wen came tearing after them from the direction of the town in a pickup truck, kicking up a trail of dust as he sped along.
Not only that, but he had also brought another two pickup trucks with him. The three vehicles charged menacingly toward Feng Shan’s SUV.
Bao Wen’s pickup quickly overtook Feng Shan’s SUV.
Then, the pickup swerved sharply, forcing the SUV to a screeching halt at the side of the road. It was a brutally aggressive maneuver, and the tires shrieked against the pavement.
Afterward, the other two pickups moved to surround them, boxing in the SUV Feng Shan and the others were in.
Then, seven or eight men got out of the trucks. Each one was holding a firearm, ranging from handguns to rifles. They stood in front of their vehicles, eyes fixed warily on the SUV.
However, they didn’t make any aggressive moves toward the SUV; they just surrounded it.
Bao Wen, dragging Valerie along, pushed his way through his men.
Just as Feng Shan had done when he approached the pickup earlier, Bao Wen swaggered up to the SUV’s door. He reached out, tapped lightly on the window, and put on a seemingly friendly smile.
"Sir, how about you come out and have a chat? I guarantee your personal safety. We Texans are very hospitable, you know."
The car door slowly opened.
Feng Shan appeared before them, dressed as a classic Western cowboy.
The sight stunned everyone for a moment.
’How does this guy look more like a Texan than we do?’ they all muttered to themselves.
He had the cowboy vibe down pat.
"A chat? What about?" Feng Shan looked calmly at Bao Wen, his eyes betraying no fear of the armed standoff. He simply waited for Bao Wen to make his next move.
"You son of a..." The moment Valerie saw Feng Shan, she flew into a rage and lunged forward, about to curse him out.
But before she could get the words out, Bao Wen grabbed her by the hair and flung her aside like a rag doll. He cursed viciously,
"Bitch, shut your damn mouth and get the hell out of the way."
Then, Bao Wen’s expression instantly switched back to a beaming smile as he pointed to a large, leafy tree by the side of the road.
"Sir, how about we head over there? You can try some Texas barbecue. I’m a pretty decent grill master. We can eat some BBQ and drink some beer."
Feng Shan knew exactly what Bao Wen was up to.
But as long as he could stall for time, it was no skin off his back.
Besides, Yves and his team should be close to their destination by now. All he had to do was keep these guys occupied here so Yves could submit the application without a hitch.
"Let’s go."
The group moved to the base of the tree.
Someone immediately brought out a table, chairs, and a grill, and lit the charcoal.
The charcoal in the grill gradually burned red-hot, radiating waves of heat.
Next, another person brought out fresh beef and a few cases of beer from one of the trucks, arranging everything neatly.
The whole setup really looked like a leisurely barbecue party.
In reality, however, the tense atmosphere hadn’t diminished in the slightest; it was merely hidden beneath a facade of ease.
"A cowboy facing off against a gang... it’s so dramatic! My God, this plot is fantastic!" Hidden in the SUV, Director Roland watched the scene unfold through the window, his eyes dancing with excitement. He immediately took out a notepad and started scribbling.
"Is Mr. Feng in danger?" Xia Li asked, looking worriedly out the window.
’I know most of the people in the Zorro Gang, and they wouldn’t hurt me.’
’But Mr. Feng is here to help Yves. I can’t just stand by and watch something happen to him.’
With that in mind, Xia Li had just taken out her phone when the man with the earring, who had been standing guard nearby, snatched it from her. He whispered quickly,
"Hey, Xia Li, are you trying to get us all killed? I’d advise you not to do anything. Just stay put."
Under the large tree,
Bao Wen had taken on the role of grill master with considerable enthusiasm. He stood before the grill, his technique remarkably skilled.
He placed a piece of beef on the rack. The moment it touched the hot coals, it let out a SIZZLE as the fat rendered.
Grease spattered, releasing an enticing aroma that stood in stark contrast to the tense atmosphere.
Nash, meanwhile, stood vigilantly behind Feng Shan. His eyes were locked on the opposing gang members, not relaxing for even a second. His hand hovered over the gun at his waist, ready to react to any sudden moves.
"So, Mr. Feng, how do you like your steak?"
Bao Wen asked as he speared a piece of beef still dripping with blood. The action seemed casual, but it carried a distinct, provocative edge as he placed the meat on the plate in front of Feng Shan.
"I prefer it rare. That’s the only way to taste the true flavor of the beef. After all, this is Texas, the home of the cowboy."
Looking at the bloody beef, Feng Shan smiled, cut off a piece with his knife, put it in his mouth, and began to chew slowly.
"Tastes good. My territory is still short a grill master. I think you’d be a good fit."
Bao Wen froze for a second, his mind racing to decipher the meaning behind Feng Shan’s words. After a brief pause, he also picked up his knife, cut off a piece of barbecue, and started chewing.
"A shame Alaska is so far away. I’m not a fan of cold, desolate places. Texas is great—plenty of people, plenty of excitement."
"That’s unfortunate. The Crown Territory is a nice place." As Feng Shan spoke, he picked up a beer. With a deft twist of his palm over the cap, he popped it open with ease and placed it in front of Bao Wen.
He then opened another for himself, looking completely at ease, as if the armed standoff surrounding them was of no concern to him at all.
