Chapter 414: Chapter 304: Resolution
Everyone and the cars were ready.
Not wanting to waste any time, Lawyer Peyton glanced at Feng Shan. "Arrange for a driver who knows the roads. Yves and his daughter will ride with us. On the way, Fla will tell you how to talk to the judge to get his sympathy, which will be better for the case. The rest of you can sort yourselves out."
Feng Shan immediately looked over at Cook and gave his orders.
"You’ll drive Lawyer Paine’s car. The rest of you, take the second car. Let’s head out now, don’t waste any more time."
Following the plan, everyone piled into the two SUVs.
The cars slowly pulled away, heading out of town and kicking up a cloud of dust.
Two gang members in charge of watching the western shop were posted across the street, their eyes never leaving the storefront.
They watched as the western shop closed up. Then they saw the rich guy their boss, Bao Wen, had told them to keep an eye on—plus Yves and Fiona—get into cars and drive away.
The two exchanged a look, then scrambled to pull out their phones and call Bao Wen.
Meanwhile, back at Yves’s old house, the place was a complete disaster.
Valerie and Bao Wen were lounging on a sofa buried in trash. Their clothes were a mess, and cigarettes dangled from their lips. As they blew out clouds of smoke, they discussed taking a nice long trip to Hawaii Island once they got a huge pile of cash out of Yves.
RING RING RING!!
Suddenly, a piercing ring shattered the seemingly harmonious atmosphere.
Bao Wen groped around in the sofa cushions, but after a long search, all he found were a few used plastic baggies. The annoying ringtone, meanwhile, just wouldn’t stop.
"Bitch, can’t you ever clean this place up?" Bao Wen’s brow furrowed, his face twisting in disgust as he complained to Valerie.
"Fuck you, half of this trash is yours," Valerie shot back, not to be outdone.
They bickered back and forth, neither willing to back down, but the ringing was just too irritating.
Giving up, Valerie irritably shoved her hand into the gap in the sofa. After a great deal of effort, she finally fished out the ringing phone. She angrily hurled it at Bao Wen and snapped,
"Here. Your damn phone."
Seeing this, Bao Wen just chuckled, his sleazy grin returning. He ignored Valerie’s anger and pulled her close again. One hand began to roam freely over her body while the other leisurely answered the phone, his voice tinged with impatience.
"Yeah, what is it?"
"Boss, bad news! That rich dude took off with Yves and Fiona!" The voice on the other end was frantic, shouting at the top of his lungs. The panic was palpable even through the phone.
"What did you say?" Bao Wen’s eyes flew open as if he’d been struck by lightning, and he shot bolt upright on the sofa.
The movement was so sudden and violent that his hand, still on Valerie, squeezed hard, catching her completely off guard.
She cried out in pain, clutching the spot where he’d squeezed her and shooting Bao Wen a venomous glare.
But Bao Wen couldn’t be bothered with her right now; his mind was consumed with the thought of Feng Shan and the others escaping.
That was 500,000 US Dollar on the line. He had to get them back, and fast. Otherwise, the prize he already had in the bag would be gone, and that would be a massive loss.
Anxiously trying to figure out a plan, Bao Wen scrambled to his feet and rushed toward the front door, still cursing into the phone.
"Fuck! Are you morons? Why didn’t you stop them? You idiots! Useless bastards!" Bao Wen screamed into the phone, his voice full of rage.
’I even sent guys to watch them, and they still got away.’
’They’re all fucking useless.’
The goon on the other end hastily explained, a whine of protest in his voice, "Boss, the rich guy threatened us. He had a gun."
"Bullshit! You don’t have guns? Which way did they go?" Bao Wen ignored the excuse and continued to rage.
The most important thing now was finding out which way Feng Shan’s group went so he could chase them down.
"I’m not sure. Out of town, probably. Maybe toward the airport," the goon answered hesitantly. He had panicked and hadn’t paid close attention to their direction, so all he could do was guess.
"If that rich prick gets away, I’ll personally drag you two idiots behind a horse until you’re dead. Now get in a car and chase after Yves’s vehicle, right now! Stick to them like glue and keep reporting their position to me."
Bao Wen threatened viciously.
’I can’t let them get too far, no matter what. As long as we can stay on their tail, there’s still a chance to cut them off.’
Just then, a disheveled Valerie hurried after him.
Her eyes were wide, her face a mask of frantic anxiety.
"Babe, what’s going on? Did Yves run off with Fiona?"
"Don’t know. Probably. That rich bastard came here on a private jet," Bao Wen snapped. He furiously yanked open the door, stepped outside, and waved forcefully at the goon standing watch by the road, signaling for him to bring the car over.
"Don’t you have guys at the airport? Call them and have them stop the plane!"
Hearing this, Valerie grew even more frantic. She grabbed Bao Wen’s arm and shouted.
She, too, now realized how bad the situation was. If Yves got away on a plane, their hopes of getting the money would be completely shot.
"Are you telling me what to do? Piss off! Why did you agree to let Yves take Fiona in the first place, you stupid woman? Look at the mess you’ve made!"
Bao Wen, already furious, roared at Valerie.
