Chapter 66: Chapter 17 Holding Death Hostage_4
"Oh." Ah Dai nodded, thought for a while and said, "I, Ah Dai, swear that from today onwards, I will serve as Miss Xuan Yue’s errand boy for one year, never leaving her side. If I break this vow, I will never be able to eat delicious steamed buns again. Is that okay?"
Xuan Yue replied, "That’s good. Let it be this way. By the way, go and look out; if you see anyone dressed as a knight and wearing silver armor, quickly come back and tell me."
Ah Dai asked, "Yue Yue, why didn’t you go back with your father when he came looking for you? Did he not treat you well?"
Xuan Yue shook her head and said quietly, "It’s not that he treats me badly, it’s just that life in the Church is really boring. Outside is so much more fun. Once my wounds heal, let’s work as mercenaries for a few days, okay?"
Ah Dai glanced at Xuan Yue, thinking about how nice it would be to have a father who cared about him. Thinking about his father reminded him of the deceased Owen, and he choked back tears.
"Ah Dai, what’s wrong?" Xuan Yue asked in surprise, holding Ah Dai’s hand.
The soft touch of Xuan Yue’s hand comforted Ah Dai greatly. He shook his head and said, "I’m fine. I’m going to check if there are any knights in silver armor as you mentioned." With that, he let go of Xuan Yue’s hand, placed his own bag on the table, wore his Tian Gang Sword, and left. The gentleness Xuan Yue had shown when she gripped his hand lingered in his heart for a long time.
Once Ah Dai stepped out, Xuan Yue murmured, "Looks like there are many secrets this silly boy has. Digging out other people’s secrets is my favorite thing to do."
Just as Ah Dai entered the inner room, his body suddenly went cold. He activated the True Qi circulating in his body, but did not notice anything unusual, so he did not pay much attention.
In the inner room, seven or eight mages were re-establishing the barrier magic on the walls under Kigg’s instructions, while some workers were repairing the large hole in the wall that Ah Dai had made.
Seeing Ah Dai appear, Kigg walked over and whispered, "How’s the little witch doing?"
Ah Dai shook his head and answered, "Don’t worry, Chief Mage Kigg, Yue Yue should be fine."
Kigg breathed a sigh of relief, and said, "That’s good, if something had happened to her in my place, I would have been in trouble. Ah Dai, I can see that you’re a good, kind-hearted kid. But sometimes, being too kind can lead to being taken advantage of, you know? I think you’d best stay away from that little witch. You should be aware of the Red Robe Priest. The Church is the most powerful entity on the continent, if you were to offend that little witch in the future, your days might become tough."
Ah Dai nodded and said, "Thank you, Chief Mage Kigg, but Yue Yue is injured now, and I’ve already promised to be her servant for one year, I have to keep my word."
Kigg sighed and said, "Take care of yourself then. By all means, do not let anyone know about Miss Xuan Yue’s stay here. Though this is a remote town for the Red Charming Clan, the power of the Church is still extensive, and I would rather not have the Red Robe Priest come looking for us."
"Got it." Ah Dai replied, then turned to leave. Before he could reach the door, he heard someone call out from outside, "Is Chief Mage Kigg in?" The voice grew louder as the person approached. As he finished his sentence, the door of the inner room opened, and a man walked in. He wore a white ritual robe, looking to be in his fifties, exuding a faint sacred aura, and his face was solemn.
Kigg’s face slightly changed, he quickly stepped forward to greet the man and said with a smile, "I was wondering who it was, it turns out to be Priest Harry. Please, come in and have a seat."
Priest Harry sighed and said, "I don’t have time to sit. Kigg, did you know, something big happened? The Red Bishop has actually come to our small town."
Kigg acted surprised and asked, "What? The Bishop is here? What on earth happened?"
Harry shook his head and said, "I’m not sure about the specifics, but as soon as the Bishop arrived, he ordered all the clergy to look for someone in the city. He described her as a pretty young girl dressed in white, with two braids. Kigg, have you seen such a person?"
Kigg calmly answered, "I have."
Ah Dai was taken aback by Kigg’s response, thinking, "Is Chief Mage Kigg going to expose Yue Yue’s whereabouts?"
A look of delight appeared on Harry’s face as he said, "Old friend, you must quickly tell me, this could be a great opportunity!"
Kigg said, "Not long ago a young girl in white came here for a magic test, she earned the title of a high-level mage, and then she left."
Harry furrowed his brows and asked, "Do you know where she went?"
Kigg shook his head blankly, and said, "I’m not sure, she seemed to have headed westwards." The Mage Guild was near the West City Gate, implying that he was trying to divert the Red Bishop’s attention outside the city.
Harry said, "Alright, I need to hurry back and report this to the Bishop, thank you Kigg, old friend." After saying this, Harry turned and left.
When Harry left the inner room, all the mages, including Ah Dai, felt an overwhelming surge of energy instantly fill the entire Mage Guild. Ah Dai was struck rigid, a pressure he had never experienced before, even when facing Owen. The powerful holy aura gave one a sense of irrepressible reverence. The workers, who had been constructing, were unable to breathe from the divine aura, and fell to their knees, each gasping for breath.
