In a flash of shadow, Ah Dai landed next to Xiao Huan. He carefully held out the image of the lass in his hands, staring at it obsessively. "Look, she’s come back to life, hasn’t she? She must have. She’ll never die, ever."
Xiao Huan was taken aback, her gaze following Ah Dai’s to the ash in his hand. Its likeness was life-like, it was the lass! It wasn’t until now that Xiao Huan understood what Ah Dai was trying to do. Crying out, "Miss!" The tears began to flow uncontrollably again. Standing together in stillness, their four eyes were glued unblinkingly to the lifelike image. A cloud of grief hung over them and seemed to rise endlessly, even the forest trembled in response to their sorrow in the wind.
After a long time, Ah Dai sighed heavily, tenderly returning the image to his jacket. He said softly, "Don’t cry anymore, Xiao Huan, let’s go."
Xiao Huan nodded, her words choked with emotion. "Ah Dai, Ah Dai, where are we going now?"
Ah Dai said, "I’ll take you somewhere peaceful, where you can live quietly. It’s what the lass would have wanted." With that, he scooped up Xiao Huan and took off into the sky. After identifying the direction, he began to fly southwest towards his destination, the peaceful little village where Harry lived. Mica Province wasn’t far from Hak Village, where the Western Swordsman Harry resided. After a day of flying, Ah Dai passed through the dividing line of the Empire of Tian Jing and the Federation of Suo, then spent another day traversing the Tian Gang Mountains to arrive in the Province of Light in the Empire of Huasheng.
Two days had passed, and the grief in Xiao Huan’s heart had diminished considerably. She was gradually becoming accustomed to flying with Ah Dai. When she thought of the lass, she would ask Ah Dai for the image, to recall the moments they’d spent together.
Thanks to Ah Dai’s martial arts, the biting wind could no longer harm Xiao Huan’s body. As she gazed down at the landscape below, somewhat drowsy, Xiao Huan asked softly, "Ah Dai, how can you fly?"
Ah Dai glanced at Xiao Huan. After two days of travel, his blocked meridians had somewhat cleared, and wouldn’t impact his speed for now. He didn’t have the emotional energy to fully recuperate, so when Xiao Huan asked, he gave a curt response. "It’s a form of martial arts."
Xiao Huan didn’t know much about martial arts, she changed the subject. "Where are you taking me? Will I be with you from now on?"
Ah Dai shook his head. "I bring misfortune, it’s safer if you stay away from me. I’ll find you a peaceful place to live where you can’t be harmed. That’s what I owe the lass."
Xiao Huan looked at Ah Dai, disconcerted. "It would be so good if miss were still alive. Xiao Huan would be willing to be your servant for life." She’d come to realize Ah Dai, although appearing cold, was passionately sincere, and had deep, profound feelings for Tifya. Tifya’s death had hit him hard.
Ah Dai’s body involuntarily shuddered, his tone solemn, "The lass is still here. She’s always with me, in my heart, she’s still that gentle, weak girl. I’ll always carry her with me."
The Light and Dark River was now in sight, Hak village was as peaceful as ever. The villagers continued their farming work. Ah Dai and Xiao Huan landed on a gently sloping hillock not far from Hak Village. He asked her, "Xiao Huan, are you willing to live a peaceful life in this village? No one will mistreat you or look down on you there. It’s just a place for simple villagers."
Xiao Huan looked at the small village surrounded by fields only a little distance away. Her eyes sparkled with hope, she nodded, "I am willing to, miss used to say, as long as there’s a peaceful place for her to live a secure life, she would be satisfied. Xiao Huan has the same wish, I just want a peaceful life, but, will the people here accept me?" Ah Dai glanced at Xiao Huan, sighed, "The lass and I feel the same. If she were still alive, we could have lived a peaceful life here. Let’s go, there’s an old friend of mine there, he’ll take care of you."
Ah Dai led Xiao Huan towards Hak village. When they reached the outskirts, he saw Harry’s eldest son helping villagers move things. Beads of sweat glistened on the boy’s simple face under the sunlight, though Ah Dai could tell the toil albeit tiring, brought the boy joy.
"Hasan." Ah Dai called out Harry’s eldest son’s name plainly.
Upon hearing Ah Dai’s call, Hasan, clearly taken aback, looked up towards Ah Dai and after blinking a few times, he recognized Ah Dai, "Ah! You, you’re Ah Dai, right? Are you here to visit us? That’s great, my father will be pleased to know you’re here."
Ah Dai looked at Hasan’s simple, honest smile, he felt warmed by it. He gestured Xiao Huan over, "Come, Xiao Huan, let me introduce you."
Xiao Huan, a little shy, moved closer to Ah Dai, her eyes lowered, too shy to meet Hasan’s intense gaze. Xiao Huan wasn’t exactly beautiful, but there was a gentle, simple beauty about her. Hasan, who’d not seen much in his life, was immediately taken aback, he mumbled to Ah Dai, "Ah Dai, this is not the same icy lady from last time, right?"
