The economic and military aspects of the safe zone had begun to stabilize. There was far less hunger and displacement at these places, and the rate of fallen bases—at least in this area—had dipped.

Meanwhile, the scientific aspect had also taken a few steps forward.

One was studying the output of Khalifa’s space.

Fresh fruits and vegetables during the apocalypse were already very rare. A lot of them sold for a high amount of crystals.

During the first few months, the plants from Khalifa’s space were exclusive to the island.

They discovered that they grew really well—much faster and much healthier than normal. They were also much more delicious.

The farmers and a few visitors (i.e. soldiers from Kylo’s team etc.) often asked where they got such seeds and they just said they were special experimental seeds and said some vague scientific terms that killed the others’ curiosities.

Around a few weeks ago, there was a lot of surplus so they decided to sell to the richer visitors as premium grade, costing a few times more than the normal varieties.

However, the people they sold to were trusted individuals who only received a small amount each.

Khalifa knew her vegetables had the same effects as crystals, though to what degree wasn’t entirely clear either. This meant they couldn’t just give them away willy-nilly even if they did have a lot of surplus.

They just turned the further excess to jams, pickles, and the like.

She also sent Sigmund samples of strawberries and other plants for testing.

So, Khalifa was here to ask for the status, and also to provide his daily ’nourishment’.

"Ah… ha… ha~" she mewled as she wrapped her arms around his coated shoulder, his hips moving wildly as he plundered her, his forehead resting on her neck, lips parted as light groans escaped his lips.

About a few weeks or so ago, Sigmund put on a very professional request to have Khalifa come every afternoon to help him out.

The men asked what kind of help and he blatantly answered it was to have coitus with her.

This was because—amusingly—Sigmund said his mind worked better after the intense act.

His mind would turn off and he would go entirely by instinct—the only time he could do so—but his thoughts were clearer for a long time after.

He rationalized that his mind must restart during sex, a reboot of sorts.

He seemed to genuinely believe this so the men had no choice but to do as he wished. He also lost his chance at night, which was fine because he often worked late anyway.

If he dared ask for the night time slots though, it was estimated the albino would find himself in a ditch somewhere.

Back to the ’reboot’, Sigmund’s plunder became wilder and wilder as he neared his peak.

Clap! Clap! Clap!

Khalifa found herself falling to the surface of the table, her whole body bouncing as the supposedly ascetic man rammed into her.

Her blue eyes looked at the man, admiring his handsomeness. Because he was extremely pale, the red on his cheeks was much more prominent.

He was sweating and panting, chasing pleasure, completely going on by instinct. It excited her very much.

Her walls tightened around him and he gasped, soon unable to hold his seeds, squirting all over her.

They groaned and moaned but Sigmund stopped himself from putting any weight on her, simply using his hands beside her head as support as his body weakened from the release.

He was panting heavily and stood up again, pulling his shaft from her body. The movement made a lot of their combined fluids flow to the floor and the table.

His red eyes stared at the sight for a few seconds longer than usual before pulling his sights away. Khalifa smiled and sat properly, pulling down her skirt.

Don’t look at Sigmund seeming to be so cold after sex—as if he was simply doing a carnal duty. Although he was definitely not as sweet and caring as the other men, she could still feel that he showed her care in his own way.

For example, he would send her a hot compress when she felt sore. He even designed a massager specifically for her and, with the help of Hugo, they put it to reality.

Of course, when she asked him about it, he would just say he needed her in top condition at all times. And he wasn’t being pretentious either—he really meant it like that.

She acknowledged that the man’s brain was just wired differently, and she wouldn’t expect the same warmth as the others.

"So, what’s the status of your research?" She asked, smiling at him as her azure eyes fixed on his figure.

"Making concentrated products like juice and jam from the fruits unfortunately reduces their effect. They have to be eaten unprocessed to see the effects."

"I see…"

"However, the same cannot be said for zombie crystals."

Khalifa blinked, looking at him in shock. "What?"

He stared at her startled face. His expression didn’t change, but she could feel his amusement.

Anyway, Sigmund showed her a few pieces of paper showing complicated data.

"I managed to melt the crystals using Hugo’s plasma gun technology," he said. They had too much crystal in the island, and he was able to experiment on a room-full of crystals as he wanted.

He actually formed the theory for this as early as back in the war in the Capitol base.

When they were cleaning up the base, with the citizens and guards taking out crystals from the fallen zombies, he saw that some crystals had shown cracks and the smaller ones even had signs of melting.

He studied the corpses and saw the plasma gun hit on where the crystals were.

Partnered with the study of using it as an energy source, he had come to various conclusions.

Interestingly, zombie crystals were now one of the primary energy sources of the current models of the plasma gun, and it was how they managed to create so much in such a short amount of time.

Of course, melting the crystals completely was another matter and he only succeeded a few days prior.

He used Hugo’s technology and succeeded, creating pure samples of crystal liquid.

There were similar components in Khalifa’s special fruits—the source of which he didn’t question anymore—and the liquid crystals, but there were also differences.

For instance, the (unprocessed) fruits would definitely be much more efficient and would give more energy, however the crystals had a ’raw’ composition that might have a better effect in actually fighting the virus.

Of course, this wasn’t done immediately because Sigmund theorized it was too powerful to consume directly. He needed to figure out the dosage and the way to consume.

Sigmund still had a lot to do with regards to this, but it was a hopeful progress.

Khalifa thought for a while. "I’ll send an announcement to other territories. If they have anyone newly bitten but has a slow onset, then I’ll ask them to bring the patients here for clinical trials."

Although it was experimental, those people would have no better choice anyway. On the contrary, it would give hope.

She smiled and looked at the man, patting his shoulder.

"Good job."

Sigmund’s eyes shook a little and he leaned down. She smiled and tiptoed, about to meet his cold lips. However—

"Khalifa!" A new voice yelled, following the abrupt opening of the door.

They turned to see it was Chris, who was extremely pale and terrified.

"We need you! Claire is giving birth! And she’s in danger!"
