Months passed and Khalifa entered her 2nd trimester. Similarly, Claire entered her 3rd.
The two pregnant women were incredibly doted on, loved and taken care of by the whole island. Sometimes, they had to shoo people away so they didn’t feel like they were invalids.
"Are they all like this?" Helen asked, surprised at the doting. At this time, she was looking at Khalifa who had just received her bowl of ice cream a second after she asked for it.
"Ah, well, it’s their way to calm themselves," Khalifa just smiled and looked at her former PE teacher.
Just today, Helen was shipped in.
There was not much explanation because it was all so rushed, so they thought she could’ve been bitten and went to them as a last resort.

This made the women very sad and were trying to rush the progress of whatever Sigmund was working at.
However, to their surprise, she was apparently there to be deposited because… she was pregnant!
Ryo sent her in a rush as soon as he found out. Coincidentally, there was a mob that attacked the base so he wasn’t able to explain further.
Khalifa looked at the beautiful valiant woman who had finally taken the heart of the novel’s male lead.
Helen felt Khalifa’s stare and flinched. "What is it?"
"I was just thinking how nice it would be to have our children playing together," she said.
She had observed the interactions of the two pairs before. Helen and Claire were undoubtedly close, and Chris and Kylo were a bit awkward but very civil. Maybe they’d be close family friends in the future.
All was well with the two pairs. Wouldn’t it be interesting if their children ended up together?
Khalifa thought if Ryo’s child was a girl—Chris and Claire’s was a boy—then they could get married! Her ship has sailed all the way to the next generation.
(However, after a couple of months, they’d find out that the child would turn out to be a boy, and both children would grow up to be her daughter’s admirers. Of course, this was still far, far, into the future.)
Anyway, after this time, humanity had somehow adjusted to the new pace of this new life.
At the very least, this was the case for those within the so-called Safe Zone—something proposed by Kylo and was currently being built up.
The past month or so, they had established contact with about a dozen small and another big base near the city.
After a day-long discussion, they jointly decided to create a so-called Safe Zone, which would be a region cleared up by the participating bases. It wouldn’t be fenced, but it would lessen the zombies and prevent mobs from forming.
Mobs were dangerous in and of itself, but they also noticed that there were a lot of super zombies in mobs, increasing in number as the number of zombies did.
They still needed a bit more time to make concrete assumptions, but reducing the mobs was the minimum they had to achieve.
The safe zone was formed by combining the forces of all participating Territories. Kylo, Hugo, and the others also sold the weapons to allied bases for a good price.
They encouraged small bases to merge, though not everyone complied. Those who liked their positions naturally wouldn’t let go of the power, but most of those who survived this long naturally weren’t stupid. Even if they didn’t merge, they just decided to be a market of goods for the Port Base.
During this time, the economy of the island and the Port Base also soared. For one, the factories prepared before were now in full operation and were supplying food with long shelf lives in various territories.
The factories of these foods had expanded twice in the past month, and now they were preparing to supply the entire safe zone.
There were also products that were basically unique to Khalifa’s territory, such as seafood and salt products. During the past few weeks, the consumption of these items had risen in a steep line.
The fish ponds were also expanded and handled by experts they found among the masses. This was the same with salt mining, where they could harvest tons of salt every day.
Of course, while most people had a job in the territories, people were still recommended to fight zombie mobs to hone themselves.
They had already implemented a rule that required a person to join a mission at least once a week in order to maintain their residencies. This was with the exemption of less-abled people, of course.
Speaking of which, the technical knowledge of those who survived were also given a lot of importance, allowing for the return of various items like sauce creation, condiment creation, clothing creation, and the like.
From there, new factories were made, increasing convenience and efficiency everywhere. There were now new fabric factories, soy sauce factories, chilli factories, and the like.
Although they had a long way to go, having moments like this made people have hope.
The bases were also the market for Hugo’s weapons. During this time, there had been a lot of changes in the Mountain Base as well.
Hugo’s side had started mining mountains for raw materials of their weapons.
He also set up secure facilities in both the island and in the Port Area, so in case anything happened in one (knock on wood) their alliance wouldn’t be cut off from the special armory.
Basically everything of value had the handwriting of either Khalifa or one of her men, effectively holding a good part of the current world’s working economy.
They also weren’t greedy. The basic necessities like food and simple clothing were priced fairly. Luxuries like bags, cushions, tents, better quality clothing, and the like were a little more expensive.
Of course, the weapons were priced very very high primarily to control any rebellious thoughts some power hungry individuals—and there weren’t few of them—may have.
In any case, the amount of crystals they collected every day was insane.
Suffice to say, every one of them could fill their own deep pools of crystals every day!
