Chapter 402: Panic, Intrusion
Amos had been feeling uneasy lately. It had been quite a while since he had given Jackson the task of dealing with Michael.
He understood the situation that Jackson was in. Clearly, it was difficult for him to be able to get the chance to act, without attracting too much attention.
Therefore, he had been patient, waiting. But, the previous night, Jackson had already informed him that he would take action, to eliminate Michael.
This was something that had made Amos ecstatic. He had also noticed him that Michael had already arrived in the capital.
With his knowledge of Michael, knowing that there was a high probability that he was a mutant, he was getting nervous. Obviously, Michael was not an ordinary type of mutant, as even someone from the death shadow organization failed to deal with him.
If Michael decided to target Amos and the people close to him, things could get complicated.
Previously, Ethan had a clash with Michael, and it could be said that the guy was lucky to come back alive. Ever since then, Ethan had never left the house, afraid that he would be targeted by Michael.
If Michael had come to the capital to deal with them, then, he really needed to be eliminated as fast as possible.
It was just that, it was already approaching evening, but for some reason, Jackson had not contacted him.
According to the agreement that they had reached, Jackson would act, deal with Michael, and immediately after, let Amos know about it.
The moment that he would be informed about the completion of the task, Amos would find another method of helping Jackson’s family.
From the information that he had about Jackson, once the task was completed, he would definitely release the information about it.
Because he could not directly contact Jackson, he could only use his parents to reach him. So, he was already considering looking for Jackson’s parents in order to reach Jackson, to understand the situation.
While considering about this, he decided to call for a meeting. This meeting would involve the high ranking officials of the blood reapers syndicate.
Previously, before he came to an agreement with Jackson, he had already informed them about his plans. Those guys, they already knew about the situation, and were in support of dealing with Michael.
But now, since things could easily get out of hand anytime, in case Jackson had not dealt with Michael, they had to prepare themselves.
Not even for a moment did Amos think of the possibility that Jackson might have failed. At least, he did not think of the possibility that Jackson had targeted Michael, and was the one that was dealt with, not the other way round.
To him, the only reason why Jackson could fail would be if someone from that institution noticed his moves. After all, Jackson was currently under a contract, and was limited in what he could do during the contract duration.
Several hours later, inside a conference room of one of the companies under blood reapers syndicate, the top brass of the blood reapers syndicate had all gathered.
Sitting at the head of the table, with the other members sitting around the conference table, Amos had a grim expression on his face.
He had been getting a bad feeling recently, as if something bad was going to happen. This gut feeling, it was something that he understood clearly.
While it did not work all the time, most of the times that he got this feeling, things always went wrong. But, he usually prepared himself, and was able to deal with most of the issues that arose.
"I have been getting a feeling that things could easily go wrong in the next few days, starting today. I have tried to look for anything that could be the source, but for now, I have not found any.
Regardless, I would like all of you to be cautious. You have to be prepared, in case anything happens. Be ready to respond, to minimize the damage or even deal with the problem directly.
First of all, anyone that is able to handle the issue that might arise, they will obviously receive a reward. As for the reward, it will depend on the type of problem handled." Amos spoke in a little but grim voice.
The others around the table already understood this. Quite a number of times, Amos had warned them, and because of this, they avoided tragedies.
Therefore, nobody really doubted Amos’ words. Instead, they all began thinking deeply, of who could be possibly targeting them, and how.
"I think that it is possible that the Santos family is going to take action. They already knew about Bob, but since then, they had not really made any big moves.
Probably, they were waiting for us to take the bait. But since we have not, they might have decided to take the initiative." One of the people around the table spoke.
A few others nodded, thinking the same. After all, quite a few people had suggested that they should have taken the chance to deal with the Santos family.
They had already laid quite a few plans, and while not all the plans were in place due to the sudden death of Bob, most of them were. While they could have paid quite a huge price, they would have managed to recuperate by absorbing the Santos family’s assets.
"Don’t be quick to come to a conclusion. It could be the Santos family, but remember, they are not the only ones that we have to be cautious of." Another person suggested.
In a little while, the conference room descended into a moment of argument. Several opinions were raised, with some agreeing, while others objecting.
Eventually, Amos could not take it any longer and slammed his palm on the table. Immediately, everyone looked at him.
Having attracted the attention of the group, Amos went ahead and spoke about his doubts. He said, "I think there is a possibility that this feeling that I’m getting, it is from Matthew’s grandson, Michael.
Like I previously told you, I had a deal with a mutant, and he was supposed to deal with Michael the previous night. But according to the people that I asked to keep an eye on Michael, that kid has been alive and kicking.
He even went to Skyline Grand Mall for shopping with the two little girls. This clearly shows that the person that I asked to take action did not succeed the previous night.
As you already know, we already have a conflict with Michael. With Bob’s identity having been revealed, that kid already knows that we are involved with the death of his parents.
Thereby, there is a great chance that he might have come to the capital to deal with us. After all, he has not gone to the Santos family residence ever since he arrived."
The moment that Amos mentioned this, everyone’s expression shifted. They understood that Michael was not simple. That was especially with the disappearance of Nathan and his son Brian.
Until now, those two had totally vanished, as if they had never stepped into Brenton city. They could not find any clues related to where they might have gone.
Additionally, they had tried to investigate about Michael, to try and find out where he got the money and the ability to get the shares of Vanguard Corporation, or even the technology used by sky technologies.
Of course, until today, they had not figured that out. This made them believe that Michael had an extraordinary background.
Thereby, when Amos suggested for Michael to be assassinated, they were in agreement. That was especially when Amos claimed that there was a mutant who was related to a government institution who would take action.
If that person took action, then there was a very low probability that Michael or whoever was behind him would link the assassination with them. Instead, they might try to target the government, and in the end, they would fail.
Was it easy to be able to deal with the government? Obviously not. They themselves understood that they had not been dealt with simply because the government was not having the intention of doing so.
Otherwise, if the government really had the intention of dealing with them, even those small connections that they had within the government could not help them.
Now, upon hearing that the person that Amos had sent might have failed to deal with Michael, some people in the room immediately began panicking.
If somehow, that person revealed that it was the blood reapers syndicate that had sent him, they would be in trouble. They might not be completely eliminated, but they could be dealt a heavy blow.
Then, it would not be much difficult for the Santos family and the other forces to target them, to beat them while they were down.
"Okay, all of you, calm down. It is impossible for him to reveal the fact that I am the one that sent him. After all, he understands that if I go down, I can also make him lose something that he cares about.
Therefore, the probability of this happening is very low." Amos spoke, immediately calming down the crowd.
As everyone begin settling, they suddenly heard some movements from the entrance of the conference room. Those movements were accompanied by a few groans, then everything went silent.
In the next moment, the double doors of the conference room were pushed open, while at the same time, a cold voice reached their ears.
