Chapter 399: Third Ability
When they arrived at the mansion, Michael already knew about Lina’s presence. It was because of this that he did not react the moment that Kate was suddenly embraced.
Instead, just a few seconds after they had entered the mansion, Michael suddenly received a prompt from the system.

Michael did not waste any time, not saying anything to the three ladies, he immediately headed back to his room. When he got there, he closed the door, before finally paying attention to the prompt.
The first time that he took the mutation serum, it took over 7 days for him to be able to take another serum. But this time, it was only the 6th day since he took the serum that granted him the advanced telekinesis ability.
But somehow, his body had already adapted, which would allow him to be able to gain another ability. This was a surprise, but it was welcome.
He did not linger much on the issue related to how his body had adapted. Probably, just like how the system had mentioned before, there was no defined time required for the body to adapt.
Some factors could lead to the body adapting faster, while some situations could lead to the body delaying quite a while, before it could finally accommodate another ability.
Before today, Michael had already decided on the ability that he would take next. Initially, he had planned to select an ability that would immediately make him physically strong.
Even though he had already gotten stronger after he had taken the evolution serum. But, with the probability of the existence of other civilizations out there, Michael understood that he needed to get stronger than he currently was.
Therefore, he had already selected a few abilities that would enhance his strength. Even though he had not made the final decision on the ability, recently, he had been kind of leaning towards the temporal ability.
The ability to be able to control the time, it was enticing. While it could not directly enhance his strength, it was part of the list that Michael had selected.
But after seeing how Kate was able to improve, and so quickly, he thought, why not take the same ability as her?
The rapid adaptation ability was incredibly versatile. It could enhance not only Michael’s physical attributes, but other body functions.
Eyesight could be improved, allowing him to be able to see in the dark. His resistance to heat could also be improved, while the same could be said about some types of poisons and so on.
With such an ability, considering that it was grade SSS, it would definitely boost him greatly. There was a probability that the enhancement would not be able to much an ability that was of the same grade, but boosted maybe strength, but versatility was something that Michael aimed for.
With the decision already made, Michael quickly found the rapid adaptation ability. At a price of 78 SP, the test tube that contained the mutation serum appeared on the bedside cabinet.
Having already done this two times before, Michael simply removed the cork before he gulped the contents of the test tube.
The tasteless and odorless liquid felt cold as it slid down his throat. For the first time, there was a reaction immediately after he had taken the serum.
As the liquid went down his throat, he felt a sharp burning feeling that quickly spread into his chest as the liquid went down into his stomach.
Within seconds, the burning turned into intense heat. It felt as if every drop of blood inside his body had suddenly become hot.
Normally, after all the advancements that he had received, Michael should not have had much of a problem when it came to adapting to this sensation.
But maybe because his body was stronger than that of an ordinary person, or maybe because of other reasons, he felt the difference. At least, as compared to the previous two times that he took the mutation serums, he had never felt this intense feeling.
As he felt the heat inside his body intensifying, he immediately took off his clothes one by one. Despite that, he did not feel relieved, as he felt the heat inside his body continuously building up.
At the same time, his heartbeat grew heavier with every second, pounding so hard that he could hear it in his ears. The flow of his blood also intensified, and veins popped up all over his body.
If someone observed Michael at this moment, they would definitely not believe that this was a human. Those veins, they made him look inhuman.
Michael of course noticed the change that was occurring to his body, but he did not pay attention to that. He could feel that the changes that were occurring in his body were much more intense.
His breathing became uneven as his muscles tightened on their own. A deep ache spread through his arms, legs, and back, followed by countless tiny stinging pains that reached every part of his body.

Yet, despite all of this, at this moment, Michael was feeling pain, to the extent that he could not help but let out a hiss as he took a deep breath.
The heat continued to rise until it felt as though his body was burning from the inside. His skin became damp with sweat, yet it was red, just like a cooked shrimp.
Just a few seconds later, his body shook without his control. Every muscle tightened and relaxed repeatedly as if something inside was forcing them to change.
For a moment there, Michael almost thought that he was about to have a spasm. But the shaking did not last long, as just about two seconds later, his body stopped shaking.
Still, the intense heat and the pain of being pricked by some tiny needles still existed. Despite this, Michael tried as much as possible to endure.
In fact, he was trying to make sure that he did not make any big movements. Otherwise, with how Kate was currently, enhanced senses, she would definitely notice something off.
Even though she was currently preoccupied by Lina, nobody could tell if she would come over. The door was currently locked, but in front of Kate, if she thought that something was wrong, it would only take a slight effort from her to break down the door.
Because of this, Michael tried to steady his body as he sat on the floor, just outside the washroom.
About a minute after he had taken the mutation serum, he suddenly felt another change. It was as if millions of cells throughout his body were being rapidly divided, repaired, and reshaped.
At this point, his bones, muscles, nerves, and organs all had began changing together, each one adapting to the new genetic code carried by the serum. The process was violent, leaving every part of his body feeling as though it was being broken down and rebuilt at the same time.
The pain reached its peak within moments, making it difficult to think clearly. His vision nearly blurred, as his breathing became heavy, and every heartbeat sent another wave of burning pain through his body.
Only after several long minutes did the heat slowly begin to fade, and the violent changes inside his body finally started to settle.
It took almost 10 seconds for everything to finally settle. And at this point, Michael was already soaked in sweat.
Had it not been for the fact that he had already taken off his clothes, they would have been completely wet. Still, the floor where he was sitting already had a few pools of sweat.
"Huu!" Michael let out a deep breath as he felt extremely relieved after the changes settled.
At the same time, subconsciously, he began understanding what had happened. Clearly, his body had been enhanced. Of course, it was not the physical improvement, a direct enhancement whereby his strength increased, instead, it was a different type enhancement.
The mutation had unlocked his body’s adaptive potential. His cells could instantly alter their genetic activity, rebuild tissues, and optimize every organ for survival.
It was because of this that in case his strength was insufficient, given time, his body would adapt, allowing him to be able to possess the required strength to deal with the situation that he would be encountering.
’It seems that I will have to be hitting the gym with her.’ Michael thought to himself, thinking about Kate, who was really addicted to working out.
As Michael was still thinking about this his phone suddenly began ringing. Michael stood up and went to the bedside cabinet, picking up the phone.
Looking at the caller ID, he realized that it was none other than Marion who was calling him. This made him raise his brows slightly, wondering what she was seeking him for.
