Chapter 208: Who Are You?
Like an all-consuming tide, the wave of shadow rammed into Seth from the side of his head, sending his brain rattling up and down his skull.
Seth’s mind went blank as his figure burst out of sight uncontrollably spinning through the air.
Runes flickered across the damaged battle suit weakly, as Mark struggled to balance his master’s descent.
But the damage ran too deep—and adding to the fact that both Seth and the battle suit’s energy reserves were dwindling, there was barely anything Mark could do.
Seth’s landing was rough, cracks spreading deeper into his marrow, his nerves erupting into a cacophony of stinging, sharp pain. Seth’s mind blurred in and out of consciousness.
....
Staring at the screen, unknowingly everyone went tense subconsciously holding their breaths, as they stared at Seth’s battered frame.
The battle was playing out exactly as they had imagined it would—after all, this was Immortal King Verocrity.
Though all Immortal Kings were equal in power, their varied differing abilities made the scale of danger each represented differ.
Verocrity was the embodiment of all-consuming darkness. Distance and time were concepts that simply did not restrain this creature.
Unless one could see the future and predict its attack patterns evading its attack was practically impossible.
And even if one could evade its strikes, dealing damage was a whole other matter entirely.
This was one of the greatest challenges of the trial dungeon. Had Seth been a candidate fielded by their faction, they would have armed him with the appropriate means.
But he was but an absurdly talented stray, they didn’t account for this anomaly, which made most feel it was a pity.
Watching this guy’s battles had put them on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, and most felt it was a pity he would go out like this...
"If only he attempted a trial for any of the other suits..." a feminine figure mused in pity.
Everyone nodded at her words. It really was a pity most already finding their interest in this battle waning.
Most already looking away to perform their tasks after all Seth wasn’t the only candidate they were meant to spectate and regulate.
To them the outcome was already clear and unless Seth could somehow gain precognitive abilities, there was no changing the conclusion of this battl-
"What... what is that?" The lizard man slits constricted as his clawed finger pointed at Seth’s figure on the screen drawing everyone’s attention once more.
A brilliant gleam of bronze filled the screen, a distinct lined silhouette could be seen crouching within the blinding beams of light.
What now? Had this guy yet again pulled out another trump card?
Suddenly most began to get the premonition, maybe... maybe this battle wasn’t over?
Only now the question they had at the back of their minds when all this began welled louder, "what race was this guy from?"
...
Few seconds earlier...
A resonant echo, akin to the deep bang of a war drum, reverberated from Seth’s limp frame—his chest lurching in response.
A dim glow peeked from the crumbled metal chest frame of his battle suit.
The sea of darkness from his surroundings surged, the cold ancient blight seeking to put an end to its prey.
But in that instant the bang came again—louder and sharper—Seth’s body jerking in tandem.
A bronze gleam burning through his chest, as his damaged heart slowly reconstructed itself under the baptism of this ancient force.
His brain activity erupting in a single instant millions of neurons stimulated by a dense wave of electrical and ion charge.
His finger twitched, and the darkness halted. The crimson orbs, basking in the dark, grew vigilant as a foreign force seeped from Seth’s frame into the air. It smelled danger.
And Seth’s eyes snapped open—his gaze distant, his body remaining limp, his chest rising to the tune of a rhythmic heartbeat, his mind drifting in the euphoria of sudden enlightenment.
Like dots of stars connecting, Seth’s mind delved deep into a world he never once knew existed... gene space.
"Took your time, kid!" A gruff, distant voice echoed in his ear. Seth’s form in this space—still a formless mass of consciousness—couldn’t reply or react.
Two silhouettes, blurry and indiscernible, stood in the distance—both radiating strangely familiar auras.
Somehow resonating with the dual forces that lay deep in his blood... his genes.
A figure of towering mass, presence like an immovable mountain of steel stepped forward...
"There’s no time boy! A think who are yo- ^$$π÷€§" the figure barely spoke but his words were already warping into an incoherent distant blubber...
Seth’s consciousness stirred. ’Did he just ask who I am?’ Seth didn’t know this figure, though he could already piece together a vague understanding of who they might be.
And their intention of guiding him was clear. This was a presence he had once sensed before—during his battle with the Bloodbornes, this figure had wanted him to embrace the foreign effect of the Asura gene.
Yet this presence had been similar but distinctly different—it resonated with another piece of him: the Grand Weapon Maester lineage.
But Seth couldn’t understand what he meant by asking him this?
Or could it be that this question wasn’t complete?
For some reason Seth found himself mulling over this question more than he was meant to.
It was as though the entrancing echo of the voice pulled him into a sea of endless contemplation.
His mind erupted with blazing activity as the bronze gleam slowly swallowed his physical form...
Both figures long vanished, Seth still heard a distinct whisper echoing directly into his mind, distinctly familiar but increasingly distant.
"Who are you boy?"
"Who am I?" Seth echoed the question, feeling it was a ridiculous ask.
He was Seth Duskreaver nothing more nothing less he was himself and he always would be.
If he wasn’t in a trance, he would have frowned hard. ’Cause what the hell was this?
Some character development arc shit?
He needed something more tangible, like when the asura ancestor guided his senses towards the true asura form/cells, he needed something that could make him survive this fight!
"Who are you boy!" The voice more aggressive and distant echoed with an entrancing resonance that dragged his mind into a spiral.
"What the fuck? I am Seth Duskreaver!" Seth hissed what more did this guy want?
He pulled his mind delving reluctantly deep into a ponder, mired in a state of the in between, his perception of time warped making each second dead in unnatural relation.
Who am I? The second he asked this question, his will stirred, and something struck!
He seemed to see the mental manifestation of his being, this question casting a deeper light than he ever imagined...
The question delved on the border between the boundary of his soul and body.
Was he Seth Duskreaver the will that drove the Physical amalgamation of cells called the body, or was he body fueled by the ethereal force that made his consciousness.
This question seemed simple but it was not, not by a long shot in fact he felt his answer to this would reshape his entire being.
His eyes burning bright, his mind materializing a concept, his reply decisive and precise...
Why choose one when he was both?
His will, his mind, his essence, his being all composed of distinct markers that made Seth Seth!
He answered the questions, but this deep introspection changed his view of the world. His eyes glowed even brighter, his body erupting into a brilliant sheen of bronze.
His body rose into the air as his concept solidified, his Gene skills erupting into a tide of connecting constellations, stacking their effects and thrumming deep into his very cells.
Seth realized in an instant what the voice wanted him to discern!
His body could be a myriad of things, but it could also be a weapon!
The Grand Weapon Maester lineage sang in his blood—flowing scalding hot—as the ethereal power of his Gene skills sank into his very being, the amplification skyrocketing by vast margins.
The stacking amp nearly infinite, his body bled a brighter sheen of light—as though he were ascending to divinity!
Everything snapped into place, his Gene skills rearranging into a pyramid order, their effects fuelling his very being.
And for the first time, Seth felt what it was like as the Gene skill Absolute Weapon Resonance coursed through him, fuelling his body with enhancements beyond anything he had known.
The passive effects made him feel a whole new layer of control he never imagined possible...
A savage smile cracked his lips as his mind sank back into his body. His fist clenched, his veins streaming as though filled with molten lava, his muscles coiling with a whole new layer of power—one that rivalled even Dragon Manifestation state.
His voice low but could somehow carrying across miles—echoed across the plain: "To think this power lay within reach all this while!"
