Chapter 207: Verocrity

Seth stepped into a new plain, the influx of stats still settling into his body.

With how fast he’d gotten rid of the last immortal King, Seth didn’t even bother to rest before progressing.

Recalling how easy the last kill had been Seth chuckled, he had a rough idea of how difficult that foe in particular was meant to be.

Too bad it was against Seth, a being who wielded an armour set with a blade that commanded an absurd level of critical strikes and a 50% instant kill ability for those in the same level.

"Without their divinity these guys really are just sitting ducks for slaughter..." he mused as he scanned the new plain.

The prophet or the ruler which will it be?

A faint smile cracked at the corner of his lips, then vanished—his eyes locking onto a looming shadow.

He equipped his Genetic suit in an instant, runes flaring to match the pulsing intensity of his pupils.

In that instant the world responded, the earth quaking and the air flow getting heavier and more oppressive as a foreign aura leaked into the air.

[Warning! Immortal King: Verocrity has awakened!]

This time there was absolutely no grand opening, but the shadow looming over the horizon got darker.

Seth, already summoning the Xenon crystal, let it just float inches above his palm, rippling with a mercury-like liquidity.

Seth was calm—this was his sixth battle against these so-called immortal Kings, and he hadn’t lost even once.

Naturally, his wariness toward these creatures had turned lax—not to the point of total cockiness, but enough that he hardly flinched at the stifling pressure of the looming creature.

A stale stench of ash and rusty metal suddenly flooded his nostrils as the billowing wave of darkness encroached closer, swallowing the distance between them.

The plain around Seth was nothing but cracked, red barren land—carrying the same bleak theme as the others, stretching far beyond what the eyes could reach.

Seth’s gaze slowly narrowed, his eyes flashing with cautious lights, the surroundings steadily growing darker.

As though the dim lighting of the plain was being absorbed by something, and it was at this moment, taking a good look of the shadow did Seth realise.

This was no silhouette of some creature, no writhing mass of shadows—the shadow, deep and bleak and cold, was nothing more than a pocket of pure, absolute darkness.

His instincts screamed at him, beads of sweat breaking from his pores and trickling cold down his temple.

Thrusters popped from his armour, his silhouette bursting into a streak—but even then, Seth suddenly felt the chilling rush of goosebumps crawl up his spine.

A shadowy form, barely discernible in the surrounding dark, manifested above him—his figure feeling as though it had been dragged into a crawl through time.

In reality it wasn’t—this was happening so fast his brain furiously processed everything all at once, but his body? It was far too slow to keep up.

A pair of sinister red orbs pulsed above Seth as voices—a thousand whispers and wails of children—rang through his very soul in a harrowing mental attack.

A mighty fist gathered above him, and raced down!

BOOOOM!!!

The metal shell of Seth’s exoskeletal armour caved, cracks splintering across his entire ribcage, his lungs rupturing and the vessels in his heart erupting.

Seth saw red. The pain hit like an all-consuming wave as his frame whipped down from the skies like a kite severed from its strings.

The abrupt change in direction sent a shock rattling deep into his bones, blood gurgling in Seth’s mouth as he plummeted into the earth, carving a devastating crater on impact.

Throughout Seth’s previous battles, there had been a reason he made a conscious effort never to trade blows with these beings.

From Blood-Sea to Atrocious Glory, these creatures carried a might Seth couldn’t contest without dragon manifestation.

Despite his battle ending in victories this was a non contested fact, and now once more he was reminded about that vast gap.

And even worse it seemed this creature was stronger, Seth’s eyes blurry and streaked red, he gritted his teeth not ready to die he clawed his way to his feet.

His legs trembled, his chest aching catastrophically—he couldn’t breathe, the growing pressure in his heart spreading as his vital organs slowly fell into disarray.

He fell forward coughing up mouthfuls of blood—flecked with fragments of ruptured organs. This sudden, brutal shift had caught Seth completely off guard!

Even his first encounter with Immortal King Blood-sea wasn’t this brutal!

He winced from the sharp sting caused by coughing, his lungs spasming his oxygen intake dwindling by the second.

’That thing broke through Chronostasis!’ Seth, still reeling from the pain, processed with the last functional sliver of his mind.

He could already feel the revitalisation of a bronze human kicking in, the universal adaptation racial skill restructuring his body to be denser and be able to disperse more force.

The surroundings grew dimmer—with Seth’s failing eyesight it may as well have been total darkness. He let his will pour outward through the air, wary as a bat navigating by instinct alone.

A billowing mass of shadow materialised beside him. Even at peak condition he couldn’t react to this thing—let alone now.

Every movement causing sharp jolts of unbearable pain Seth gritted his teeth and swallowed it all as he struggled to react, but once again the gut sinking feeling of being submerged in a quagmire fell on him.

The crimson orbs pulsing as another shadowy fist rammed into his frame his arm guard instantly bursting into sparks as the smooth metal surface crumpled into a mess along with Seth’s entire side.

The force rippled through his entire being, sending him flying across the plain, scraping and skidding through the earth before the momentum finally died.

Pain flared across Seth’s body, his Adrenal Matrix pumping with full frenzy to dull the effect—his entire left side reduced to a crumpled mess—as he struggled to his feet again.

Despite the overwhelming, blinding pain flooding his senses, his brain—slowly recovering from the shock—began to process things with painful clarity. His survival instinct cranked to the maximum, the only still-functional organ drawing on essence like a lifeline.

The whites of his eyes were bloody, his pupils unevenly constricted from the cerebral strain—he struggled to draw breath, the sharp sting causing him to arch, unable even to groan through the barely-there trickle of air entering his lungs.

This creature’s attack was fast, precise, and utterly brutal—and most of all, unavoidable.

Seth had barely been able to grasp its true form, but Seth knew instinctively the only way he could win this...perceiving the attack before it even arrived.

Blood streamed from his nose, as his bloody eyes raised... his mind plagued by the pain of his body falling apart, he still managed to squeeze in the thought, ’I see—the Prophet huh?’

A bronze glow flickered from his body, his evolved genes forced into a hyperactive state, his biological functions instantly reforming and restructuring.

Prioritising survivability—the annoying quirk of the human race— flared to life as Seth felt a sudden rush of cold wash over him, his pain dulling to a distant nothing.

The glyph on his chest writhed, his pet companion restless with worry for his state.

But Seth knew they couldn’t use the Dragon Manifestation ability again—not only had the cooldown not yet elapsed, but if he forced it, the little dragon really might di—

His thought process slowing to a crawl his eyes widening into a scowl, the shadow of the demon King fell upon him.

The crimson orbs bled sharp lights of relish—and another strike swallowed his frame whole.
