Chapter 205: 57 Seconds

Seth blinked into his new surroundings, the lingering sting of disappointment from the lack of an offer still fresh on his mind as he sighed and scanned the area.

The terrain bore the same stark simplicity as the others, but its structure was different—he stood in what seemed to be a highland, a rocky uneven stretch that rolled on as far as his eyes could perceive, which was pretty fucking far.

Suddenly the surrounding air quaked, the ground rumbling with a world-ending intensity as gales surged in heavy, suffocating currents.

[Immortal King: Crocious has awakened]

A blistering void swelled in space several feet away drawing Seth’s gaze, his breathing steady barely reacting anymore.

His first battle had brought the chilling thrill of a challenge worth giving his all. The second had pushed him to claim a power that had long been denied to him.

But now?

He had stopped seeing these beings as worthy foes and started seeing them as little more than a tally he had to complete.

"So this should be four of seven..." he muttered beneath his breath, his gaze glued to the bulging mass tearing its way through the very fabric of space.

A thick, unpleasant aura settled over the air like a shroud, turning the very wind murky as that stifling essence shredded through the last remnants of space holding it in.

And the not-so-enormous mass of the immortal King was now fully on display, space rapidly restructuring itself around it...

Seth raised a brow, taken aback. So far, every immortal King he had faced—though each bore distinct and varying traits—had shared the same humanoid structure.

But this one was different...

A massive, deep-purple scaled floating eye stared back at him, a tendril of what seemed to be a tail rippling behind it like smoke in still water.

Its massive pupils glowed with the crimson swirl of a primordial haze, sclera inky black as it locked its gaze onto Seth.

Goosebumps rose unbidden, a sickening chill sinking down his spine—not from fear, but from the sudden, sharp flare of his warning instinct.

Seth neither saw nor felt anything concrete, but he never doubted his instincts. He abruptly leapt backwards and equipped his Genetic suit.

Metallic clicks rang out as the luminous exoskeletal armour snapped into place—helm locking last, the thin face screen flickering to life with a cascade of real-time data.

In an instant, what hadn’t been visible before was now crystal clear.

Bang!

The rocky ground beneath where Seth had stood erupted, a blistering shockwave tearing outward in every direction.

Seth’s eyes flashed, his gaze snapping back to the source of the attack—the immortal King already watching him.

His thrusters fired within seconds, the gene suit blasting him out of range as the ground erupted again with even greater, bone-rattling intensity.

A formless, colourless flame burned around the silhouette of the floating eyeball—something only visible through the static blue shield of his helm. His mind was quick to draw a conclusion.

’The Knight!’ instinctively he pieced that this was the only logical answer.

A foe with such overwhelming attack power and delicate frame, the class most suitable to deal with such a figure would definitely be the tank class.

Though naturally that alone wasn’t enough to draw a conclusion—but between the two attacks—

Seth’s thought process halted as he swerved clear of an invisible flaming blaze, the scorched wind grazing his armour.

No—three attacks. All three so far made it abundantly clear this thing was trying to keep distance between itself and Seth.

With that, Seth had already pieced together the hints he needed. Sure of what was required, he muttered, "Since it’s that way, I guess I donned the wrong armour."

Mid-air, he instantly unequipped the genetic battle suit, replacing it with a familiar gothic black, lightless mass of metal cloaking his frame.

A massive, rugged obsidian greatsword fell into his grasp as he plummeted toward the earth, adroitly avoiding another strike.

The blade hummed and the armour pulsed, Seth cracked a smile. "Yeah buddy I’ve missed you too!"

His oldest, most trusted set—the Grim Executioner’s Legendary gear.

And now? Seth’s lips curved into a sinister smile as his Saint-Grade Gene skill, Force Embodiment, bloomed—fuelled by the surge of his essence!

BOOOOM! He landed kicking up a dense haze of dust and debris.

The whites of his eyes bled to black as his purple irises burned with fervour. Since crafting the genetic battle suit, he hadn’t worn this armour—not once.

Now that he did, the comforting cold of metal against his skin felt more familiar than ever—strange how quickly something could feel like home.

His essence churned, streaming with an icy intensity that reeked of death, his veins streaking black beneath his skin—all of it hidden under the armour.

The intensity of his presence carried a deathly chill, a halo of death essence coating his frame. He swept his sword in a wide arc, intercepting an attack that—though nearly invisible—was perfectly traceable with his sixth sense.

His grip on the blade tightened as the great sword hummed, "let’s end this..."

Cold light burst forth, and in an instant reality halted—everything dulling to ashen grey as a familiar, suffocating presence blanketed the plain.

"Death sentence!"

Clank! An ancient wooden pillory—crusted dark with dried blood—snapped shut over the oversized blob, locking it in place.

The crimson flare of the massive eye burned through the restraints of grey, its aura swelling, the pillory groaning and creaking under the pressure—within seconds it would shatter free.

Too bad for it. Facing Seth with a legendary set that came with massive boosts—plus the amplification of his Gene skill Absolute Weapon Resonance—his speed was elevated well beyond the creature’s reckoning.

His silhouette streaked through space, closing the distance in a blink. The immortal King panicked, its will flickering with wild, uncontrolled emotion.

Seth’s blade rose, angling the greatsword high, tendons pulling taut as his muscles clenched with coiled, lethal intent.

Cold streams of dark essence flowed from his grasp into the obsidian greatsword, its shadow falling over the eye like a death shroud.

Its pupils constricted from fear, its aura growing more chaotic as the pillory cracked and creaked.

Seth wasted not a second more. His blade descended, a cold glint shimmering along the edge—the blade’s 50% instant-kill effect awakening, painting the obsidian steel a faint and hungry red.

The massive eyeball felt the encroaching doom, and its struggles increased, the crimson glow from its pupils flickering with a mix of both intense hate and visceral fear.

Its pupils constricted to pinpricks as Seth’s blade swiped clean through its frame with a visceral, squelching tear.

The essence—pure death given form—ripped into what remained of both halves, gnawing ravenously at its massive vitality...

There was no massive burst of blood—only gleaming lights dissolving into glimmering motes as the Immortal King met its demise, even swifter than the last.

Seth broke another record. "57 seconds... tsk, tsk. At this rate I’ll be done with this whole thing in a few minutes," he muttered, a slow smile spreading across his lips.

His eyes lit with an excited glint as he caught sight of a simmering orb.

Loot!

...

Meanwhile beyond the dungeon, and within the spaceship, the figures just spectated silently.

Watching Seth decimate his way through the very trial that had claimed countless lives and remained unconquered for eons...

Everyone within the room had only

one thought in their minds at this moment.

"Will this great trial finally be cleared by this guy? Just... just like that?!"
