Chapter 201: Backlash

Since Seth decided to strike, he went all out in a single bound...

His Gene skill, Absolute Weapon Resonance, rippled through the Divine item, amplifying its already absurdly dense pressure.

A glimmer flashed in Seth’s eyes as his muscles loosened, his fingers letting go...

Aurora’s Fury!

Like a starving ghost, the weapon drew on his newly structured divine force, his reserves draining in an instant.

But as the string thrummed, letting out a reverberating hum, the arrow loosed.

The glimmering divine projectile multiplied into hundreds in a blink.

Akin to shooting stars of retribution, the burning projectiles blitzed into their target, bombarding the Immortal King with a reckoning fury.

The wind snapped as shockwaves exploded across the entire plain, rattling and rumbling under the deadly bombardment.

The Immortal King let out a pained growl, its jade armor riddled with cracks, its eyes flickering with an emotion it had long forgotten—fear!

The searing, star-like arrows rapidly fired into its frame, kicking it helplessly across the plain. Whatever retaliation it had been planning drowned in a blistering wave of bombardment.

Trenches carved across the once-flawless plain as Aurora’s Fury kept digging into its frame, refusing to let up, the fractures widening and the pain growing more harrowing.

Seth’s figure stood steady in the tumultuous wind as he lowered the Divine weapon, whistling, amazed by its efficiency.

"Tsk, tsk, all hail the Divine item, all hail the Saint-grade Gene skill," he chanted, his lips cracking into a sinister grin.

The bombardment slowly died down as Seth’s figure, barreling through the wind, was already upon his prey.

His gaze locked onto the barely recovered Verdania. He cocked his Divine bow into a canted form, tilting it slightly to line up a quick shot.

He let loose the string...

Eyes burning with boundless resentment, the Immortal King, having barely lifted its overwhelming mass from the earth, could only watch as the burning gleam of a falling star descended on it.

Star Strike!

Seth whispered, as the burning gold arrow whistled through the wind, spiraling down with the grace of a star...

Seth was quick to retreat, while Verdania could only watch as the arrow met its helm!

Crack! BOOOOM!!!

The celestial descent struck, smashing through the Immortal King’s helm, obliterating its contents and releasing a plain-quaking blast so immense the entire expanse trembled, threatening to unravel.

The body of the Immortal King dissolved into simmering emerald sparks, but all this went unseen by Seth.

Because even though he thought he’d given ample distance, it still wasn’t enough—clearly he had underestimated the might of a Divine strike, and the first had been a mere prelude. Swept away by the heavy shockwave of his own attack, Seth’s figure spiraled uncontrollably in the wind.

Recovering himself in the distance, he found balance in the air...

The system screen flashed, but just before he could even read it, his eyesight suddenly turned blurry as a wave of excruciating pain hit all at once.

His muscles, once brimming with might, ached with the piercing agony of a thousand needles.

A pain throbbed at the back of his head, the whites of his eyes streaking red as they rolled uncontrollably.

Plagued by mind-numbing pain and fatigue, Seth instinctively knew the cause. "Fuck!" he cursed, quickly dismissing the Divine bow as his frame fell uncontrollably down the skies.

The runes of his armor pulsed as Mark instantly diagnosed its master’s state, regulating the battle suit to glide freely into a safe landing.

Seth’s frame sprawled limp over a field of blue-tipped grass, his mind growing fuzzy by the second.

He gnashed his teeth. ’Fuck, I knew there would be backlash, but I didn’t think it would be this harsh!’ he hissed internally.

He had merely used the bow for two attacks! Just two!

He had the essence reserves of a Mid-Stage Awakened, so what the fuck?

His ears rang with a painfully piercing high pitch as he saw vague red outlines of flashing screens. "Fuck!" he hissed.

Praying deep in his heart that his foe was already dead—because if that thing wasn’t finished, his fate was sealed. In this state, Seth was already a sitting duck, and even a half-dead Immortal King would be able to finish him off for sure.

Mark’s mechanical voice rang in his ears...

[Master is critically injured, mental state is fractured!]

"Yeah, no shit, Sherlock!" Already turning incoherent, Seth squeezed out between his teeth.

[Activating incubation mode....]

Changes began occurring across the genetic battle suit as the metal exoskeletal shell slowly morphed into full-suit armor, coating every corner of his body and leaving no gaps or seams...

[Employing rapid regeneration sequence...]

Seth felt a cold rush over his body, dulling his torment ever so slightly, as he finally began to feel rejuvenated. A neon-blue liquid gently filled the insides of the armor...

[Power supply at 68 essence units...]

[Estimated power supply required for full recovery: 309 essence units needed!]

[Master, I request an ample supply of essence crystals for a smoother recovery process...]

Seth’s clouded mind, slowly shutting down, could barely reply. Knowing he didn’t have much of a supply left, he summoned the small heap of essence crystals sitting in his inventory.

The suit scanned the supply and Mark calculated.

[Calculating mass and supply capacity...]

[Estimated supply of 289 essence units detected!]

Runes flared across the armor as an unrelenting pull reached for the crystals, drawing beyond their mass and pulling on the very energy held within.

Streams of sparkling, pure, unaffiliated blue essence were pulled into the armor, filling the capacity needed, and then some...

Seth’s vision grew hazier, his mind unable to remain conscious. He shut down instantly, his body regulating itself for deep recovery.

...

Above and beyond the dungeon, in the vast spaceship...

Bulging eyes remained fixed on the screen as the entire room was submerged in pin-drop silence...

Everyone’s breath caught, their mouths hanging so wide a goose egg could fit inside.

What the hell did they just watch?

No one was able to speak, shocked beyond understanding, the scene of Seth’s clash with Verdania looping endlessly in their heads as they tried to make sense of it.

Did that guy just wield Divine energy?

This battle had started with everyone believing it would end in seconds, and Seth proved them right—wrongfully so!

He had destroyed the Divine remnant in two attacks, wielding a force everyone here dreamed of coming into contact with someday...

No one could wrap their minds around it. It all felt surreal and wrong at the same time.

Even Farad was stunned; despite his lack of a mouth, his bulging sockets made up for the loss.

As a member of the Diamond Suit, intellect, information, and Willpower were his strong suit. And despite being a fucking Ace of Diamonds, a big shot...

He had never heard of nor seen a creature like this guy before. What race was he from?

Did his ability to wield Divine energy have more to do with his racial traits or his genetic abilities?

Countless questions swirled in his mind... because even though he’d felt a foreboding earlier, he never expected the guy to pull off such a feat.

Everyone in the room was a high-standing figure of the House of Cards, Aces or numbered rankers of various suits.

They had differing cultures, differing dialects, but right now the same question rang across their minds in sync.

"What in the actual fuck did we just witness?!"
