Chapter 197: The True Nature of The Trial!
Seth’s chest rose and fell heavily, a fog of misty breath exhaling from his nostrils and mouth...
His breathing was ragged, but his eyes remained bright.
His heart still drummed rapidly from the thrill. He swung his back, staring at the sky, as the horns jutting from the sides of his temple began to recede.
The obsidian scales slowly diffused into a shadowy mist, while the wings on his back sank into his spine...
He had won!
It was gritty, it was hard, but indeed he had triumphed again. A flood of relish streamed through his veins as he smiled, exhilaration written across his face.
His vision blurred, clouded by the system’s notification...
[Congratulations! You have slain the Divine Remnant of Immortal King Blood-Sea!]
[You grow stronger...]
[+213 Strength]
[+255 Essence]
[+80 Will]
[+109 Defence]
Seth felt the familiar chill of energy seeping into his cells. His eyes closed against the rush of pleasure as muscle strands thickened, his skin toughened, and his essence pool expanded.
Best of all, deep within his mind he felt it — his Will blooming brighter, growing in both quantity and quality.
He parted his lids, reading through another block of flashing notifications...
[Congratulations! You have cleared the first of seven paths. You have displayed the tenacity and the grace of a Swordsman!]
[But do not get complacent. Six foes still lie ahead, each requiring a different path to victory...]
[Do you want to continue? Y/No]
Seth’s body had already reverted to human form, his frame shrinking back to its initial standard. The coiling shadow of the dragon glyph pulsed weakly, winding across his right arm up to his chest.
He could feel the exhaustion of his pet companion, its weak whimper echoing at the back of his mind. Apparently, the transformation had taken its toll on both of them.
He stared at the question prompt, his hand hovering over "Yes," before halting.
"Wait... there’s no timer." His eyes flashed as he noticed the clue.
And if there was no timer... ’I can take my time to recover before attempting a reply,’ he thought.
Coming to this decision, he ignored the question block, his gaze flickering beyond to search for loot.
But his foe had been a mere remnant. Even though he didn’t fully understand what that implied, the Immortal King’s remains had long faded into nothingness.
Seth frowned. "Tch. After all that effort, no loot? Stingy." He cursed.
But one had to recall this wasn’t the origin realm. The implication of a 100% drop rate didn’t apply in a dungeon.
Heck, Seth didn’t even know if a dungeon allowed drops. He simply added it to the list of unanswered questions he would clear with the Oracle later.
For now, he had to recover as fast as possible before the next stage...
The entire plane was a flat land of endless stretch. With no other enemies, there was no need to find shelter.
He sat cross-legged where he was and scrolled through his status...

Both his vitality and essence were low, and the reason his essence was even still in the hundreds was because of the recent stat gains.
Breathing out heavily, he pulled out a large pack full of meat, packed from home.
Seth had realized something: the most efficient way to recover vitality wasn’t essence crystals.
No, that mystical mineral was mainly for essence recovery and growth. Its vitality recovery effect was merely a side bonus.
The number one method of recovering vitality was eating — especially meat! The higher the quality, the greater the effect.
Though he also knew of recovery potions, he didn’t have the liberty to access one. He had to go with the first option.
Though not origin beasts, this beef was from a shackled-rank, uncorrupted herd of cows. Low in quality, but it would go a long way.
Especially since Seth had plenty. He bit into the steak, tender meat releasing fragrant juices as he chewed.
He swallowed, and a rush of heat spread from his abdomen across his entire body. Seth didn’t waste time, obliging in large mouthfuls.
With his digestion as a Bronze Grade human, he was able to process faster than his intake, mainly due to the low quality of the meat being from a shackled-rank beast while he was Awakened.
So even after finishing a full pack, his Vitality merely ticked up by 10. He summoned another, and another.
With his large stash, he didn’t have to stop until he was fully recovered. Sparks of reinvigoration brimmed across his being.
Then he began summoning essence crystals...
---
Meanwhile, while Seth took his time recovering, above the Verdant Moon a group watched him, their eyes carrying intrigue and interest.
"Farad, did you see that? He won!" The lizard man exclaimed in disbelief.
It wasn’t that no one had cleared the first leg of this trial before, but those who did were nurtured geniuses bred by their faction.
To think a random nobody from God-knows-where could pull the same feat was mind-boggling to them.
Farad nodded, his eyes also carrying the same surprise.
"What do you think? At what stage will he reach his limit?" The lizard man smirked, asking.
Though everyone was surprised by Seth’s victory and intrigued, in truth no one actually believed he would clear this ancient trial.
If Seth had applied for the trial of Diamond, Spade, Heart, or Club suits, his chances might have been huge.
But the wildcard? The Joker...
Impossible. They simply couldn’t fathom someone clearing it, even after witnessing Seth’s true prowess.
Farad’s eyes flickered, his hands clasping behind him, his Will reverberating in the air. "I’m not sure... but this guy seems promising."
The lizard man flashed a row of glinting sharp teeth. "Oh? What is this? I don’t think I’ve ever heard you compliment anyone before."
Farad remained silent at the lizard man’s words. In truth, he didn’t know why he felt so favorable toward Seth. His gut instinct simply told him something was special about this boy.
You see, the Seven Foes Seven Paths trial wasn’t hard because each foe was stronger at each leg...
That wasn’t how it worked. In actuality, all seven Immortal Kings were comparable in might!
The impossible path was the requirement to defeat each one. Just like Blood-Sea couldn’t be killed without a sword, others were the same.
Each required vastly different paths to victory. And as easy as it might sound, it wasn’t.
One couldn’t expect an expert in blades to be proficient in archery or elemental casting. Though it was possible to dabble between a few of these paths, seven? Seven was impossible!
Farad’s Will thrummed. "Let’s just watch and see..." he relayed as the crease in his temple snapped open, revealing mystical eyes that glowed with a grey haze of primordial light.
Pupils that seemed to see through the very fabric of reality itself trained their gaze on Seth.
