Chapter 161: Chapter 161: The Final Match Begins
The arena fell silent.
Elder Alder’s voice cut through the tension like a blade.
"Final match. Damon Arcknight versus Kai Reventon."
The crowd erupted.
Thousands of disciples packed the stands, their voices merging into a wall of sound.
Outer disciples. Inner disciples. Core disciples. Even elders who rarely attended such events had gathered to witness the confrontation.
Everyone knew what this match meant.
It wasn’t about tournament placement.
It was about blood.
Damon rose from his seat in the VIP gallery. Ariel grabbed his hand, her eyes wide with worry.
"Be careful." she whispered.
Damon smiled and squeezed her hand.
"Always."
Mio stepped forward.
"He’s hiding something. I can feel it."
Mia nodded, her playful demeanor gone.
"His killing intent is stronger than any opponent we’ve faced."
Damon looked at both twins.
"That’s why this will be fun."
He turned and walked toward the arena platform.
The crowd parted before him.
Disciples whispered as he passed.
"That’s him. The one who killed Jack Frostborn."
"He’s only Earth Spirit Realm. Kai is a core disciple. This is suicide."
"Did you see what his women did? And he’s the one who trained them?"
"He’s walking to his death."
Damon ignored them all.
He reached the platform and leaped up, landing lightly on the stone surface.
On the opposite side, Kai Reventon descended from the VIP section.
He didn’t walk.
He floated.
His black robes billowed around him as he drifted down like a specter, landing on the platform with absolute silence.
The contrast was stark.
Damon stood in simple black robes, a wooden sword at his hip.
Kai wore elaborate black and gold robes, his hands clasped behind his back, a spirit sword sheathed at his waist.
They faced each other across fifty meters of stone.
Elder Alder stood between them, his voice carrying across the arena.
"This is the final match of for top 16. There are no restrictions on techniques or weapons. The match ends when one participant yields, or incapacitated."
Elder Alder glanced at Damon. "Do you understand the rules?"
Damon nodded. "Perfectly."
Elder Alder raised his hand. "Then begin."
He vanished from the platform.
The barrier flared to life around the arena, a translucent dome of spiritual energy that sealed them inside.
Kai didn’t move immediately.
He stood there, studying Damon like a scholar examining an insect.
"So." Kai said, his voice carrying across the silent arena. "You’re the one who killed Jack."
Damon said nothing.
Kai continued. "I expected someone more impressive. But all I see is an Earth Spirit Realm brat holding a child’s toy."
He pointed at the wooden sword at Damon’s hip.
"Is that really your weapon? A piece of wood? Did the sect not give you a real sword? Or are you too poor to afford one?"
Laughter rippled through the crowd.
Kai’s smile widened. "I came here expecting a fight. But this is just pathetic. You’re not even worth my time."
Damon finally spoke.
"Then why are you still talking?"
Kai’s smile froze.
Damon continued, his voice calm and flat.
"You’ve been running your mouth since I entered this sect. You sent assassins. You sent spies. You changed tournament rules just to face me. And now that you’re here, all you do is talk."
He pulled the wooden sword from his belt.
"I don’t need a a real sword to defeat you. This piece of wood is more than enough."
The crowd gasped.
Kai’s eyes narrowed.
"You think you can mock me? I am a core disciple of the Azure Dragon Sect. I am the heir of the Reventon family. I have trained for twenty years to reach a level you cannot even comprehend."
With a slow, deliberate motion, Kai raised his hand, his fingers curling into a claw as if he were physically grasping the very air around them to twist it to his will.
His golden eyes flared with a predatory, arrogant light, signaling the culmination of his posturing.
With a sudden, violent surge of willpower, he shattered the final restraints on his spirit.
He released his full cultivation, uncorking a reservoir of mana that had been suppressed until this very moment.
The pressure hit the arena like a sudden, crushing tidal wave of concentrated malice and authority, sweeping outward from his center and slamming into every surface in the venue.
It was not merely physical weight; it was an suffocating dominance that felt as heavy as a mountain bearing down on a single point.
The stone beneath Kai’s feet cracked, spiderweb fractures spreading across the platform.
The barrier around the arena groaned, straining against the force of his spiritual pressure.
Heavenly Spirit Realm - Second Level.
The crowd fell silent.
Even the elders in the VIP section leaned forward, their faces grim.
Kai’s aura was suffocating. It pressed down on the entire arena, crushing spiritual energy, making it hard to breathe.
Disciples in the stands clutched their chests, their faces pale.
"That’s Heavenly Spirit Realm."
"He’s only thirty right? How is he already at that level?"
"The Reventon family poured everything into him."
"Damon is only Earth Spirit Realm First Level. He doesn’t stand a chance."
Kai spread his arms, basking in the fear he had created.
"Do you feel it?" he asked, his voice booming.
"This is true power. This is what money and talent can do. Not whatever shortcut you used to reach Earth Spirit Realm."
He pointed at Damon.
"You’re nothing. A useless commoner. A lucky guy who just happen to be talented. Sooner that later you will hit a wall and every one will leave you."
Damon stood still.
The pressure of Kai’s aura washed over him like wind over a mountain.
He didn’t flinch.
He didn’t step back.
He simply stood there, wooden sword in hand, watching Kai with calm, golden eyes.
"Are you done?" Damon asked.
Kai’s smile faltered.
Damon raised his wooden sword and pointed it at Kai.
"Because if you’re done showing off, I’d like to end this."
The crowd held their breath.
Kai’s face twisted with rage.
"You insolent brat!"
He drew his spirit sword.
The blade gleamed with a cold, blue light, radiating frost that crystallized the air around it.
"I’m going to enjoy breaking every bone in your body."
Damon smiled.
"Come on then."
The match began.
