Chapter 423: Chapter 423: Kill Me, Would You Have the Heart?

Everyone stopped, concealing their auras as quickly as possible.

Sunxiao reverted to his human form and held Qiao Xixi as they submerged. In the distance, Qiao Xixi saw several dark shadows flash past.

If Sunxiao hadn’t pointed them out, Qiao Xixi wouldn’t have even noticed their presence, mistaking them for a passing breeze.

Only after the figures’ auras had completely vanished did Sunxiao and the others surface.

Jin Ling glanced at Sunxiao and the others. "Five of them."

The males nodded.

"Then there are only five left at the Watchtower. Let’s go, now’s our chance."

Confirming that half the Watchtower’s beast guards had left, Qiao Xixi and the others picked up their pace.

They traveled until the latter half of the night, when Qiao Xixi checked the map’s location feature again.

According to the map, they weren’t far from the Watchtower. Another half hour or so of travel would get them there.

Qiao Xixi looked up at the sky. ’Is it my imagination, or does the blood moon in the sky look bigger?’

Even though it was well into the night, the darkness showed no signs of receding.

Qiao Xixi looked away and hugged Sunxiao’s head tighter.

Just then, Xijing, who was swimming at the very front, suddenly stopped.

"Careful."

The moment he spoke, a huge disturbance erupted from the water, sending ripples rolling across the surface.

A thick white fog suddenly rose around them, and visibility shrank before their very eyes.

Jin Ling and the others subconsciously moved closer to Qiao Xixi’s position.

The turbulence under the water grew stronger, making it almost impossible for them to keep their footing.

"Xixi, hold on tight."

"Okay."

Qiao Xixi leaned down, pressing her entire body against Sunxiao’s head.

Xijing’s expression was grim. "There’s something in the water."

As soon as he finished speaking, an enormous head burst from the water. It had hard scales and scarlet vertical pupils that glowed in the dark like two will-o’-wisps. Its body was twice the size of Sunxiao’s, and it radiated a cold, ghostly green light.

"It’s a Water Snake Beast."

Sunxiao quickly retreated with Qiao Xixi, while Xijing guarded them closely from the front.

Sangze transformed into a black mist and flew before the Water Snake Beast, shrouding its eyes.

The Water Snake Beast flicked its long tongue out agitatedly, deftly twisting its head to shake off the black mist.

"My turn."

Feiyan shouted as his figure weaved nimbly through the water. A raging fire ignited around him, but instead of being extinguished by the water, it transformed into crimson fire serpents that lunged at the Water Snake Beast.

"HISSS!" The Water Snake Beast angrily whipped its head aside, its body lashing out to strike Feiyan. Ling Yue’s figure flickered, and his Fox Fire coalesced into a Flame Shield. With a loud BANG, the water pressure and flames collided, kicking up a spray of water and sparks.

Sangze and Jin Ling seized the opportunity, lunging forward from the left and right. The black mist once again entangled the Water Snake Beast. While it was unable to break free from Sangze’s hold, arcs of electricity erupted from Jin Ling’s sharp tiger claws as he brutally stabbed them into the beast’s vital spot.

With a CRACK, the scales shattered. Electricity coursed through the snake’s body. When Jin Ling withdrew his claws, a fist-sized beast crystal was already in his hand.

"AARRRGH!"

The Water Snake Beast let out a final, mournful shriek as its massive body convulsed violently in the water. The scarlet glow in its vertical pupils gradually faded, and its body slowly sank to the bottom of the pool, stirring up a massive whirlpool.

The moment the Water Snake Beast fell, the thick fog around them began to dissipate. Qiao Xixi stood up and saw an island standing in the middle of the water in the distance.

The map showed no other coordinates in the Heavenly Pool besides the Watchtower, which meant the island she was seeing had to be it.

"Look, there’s the Watchtower."

The dark red halo of the blood moon shone on the island, making the buildings on it appear and disappear from view.

"Let’s go."

The group set off again.

Meanwhile, the two figures guarding the Watchtower had sensed the anomaly the moment the Water Snake Beast died.

Under the eerie, dark red light of the blood moon, a towering figure as large as a small mountain emerged from the darkness.

He had medium-length, orange-red hair that looked flamboyant and scorching in the darkness.

Chi Yan stared out at the endless Heavenly Pool, his voice deep and resonant like a great bell. "Someone has broken in."

Behind him stood another tall, sturdy figure. The red light reflected off his two sharp horns, making them look as if they were dripping with blood, a fearsome sight.

Lei Lie looked up at the massive figure circling overhead and took out a bone flute to play it.

The figure in the sky did not react.

A flash of displeasure crossed Lei Lie’s dark pupils. "I told you this old geezer was too old to be of any use, but you wouldn’t believe me."

Chi Yan shot him a glance. "If you have a problem with it, grow a pair of wings yourself."

Lei Lie snorted and blew two more times before the figure in the sky finally flew down slowly.

It was a gigantic Dapeng Bird Beast. As it landed, it failed to retract its massive wings in time. One of them swept out and smacked right into Lei Lie before he even had a chance to dodge.

The veins on Lei Lie’s forehead throbbed, and his fists clenched.

Yun Qiong stumbled forward a few steps to steady himself before unhurriedly retracting his wings and shifting into his human form.

His long, black-and-white hair fluttered in the night wind, complemented by a black-and-white feathered robe that gave him an elegant air. His narrow eyes, full of mirth, were fixed on Lei Lie.

"Lei Lie, you called for me?"

Lei Lie: "..."

"I knew it! The only reason Qiao Yi managed to escape last time was because you’re deaf!"

Yun Qiong didn’t get angry. He just furrowed his brow and walked slowly over to the two of them. "Lei Lie, you were clearly the one who opened the door for Qiao Yi."

"You—!"

Chi Yan cut them off impatiently. "Enough. Let’s talk business."

Chi Yan looked at Yun Qiong. "The Water Snake Beast is dead. Fly over and see what happened."

Yun Qiong was startled. "Did Qiao Yi escape again?"

"No. I’m worried those monsters are heading this way. Hurry up and go check."

"Got it. I’m on my way."

The moment he finished speaking, Yun Qiong quickly spread his wings, whacking both of them hard as he shot into the sky.

Chi Yan: "..."

Lei Lie: "I told you that old bird did it on purpose!"

"Go check on Qiao Yi. That little brat is very cunning. If you let him escape again, you can just eat grass from now on."

Lei Lie snorted through his bull-like nose and turned to walk into the inner tower.

The moment he entered the inner tower, all surrounding light vanished.

But Lei Lie walked as if on level ground. After an unknown amount of time, he finally stopped in front of a heavy stone door.

Lei Lie pressed his palm print against the stone door, and the heavy sound of grinding stone echoed in the narrow space.

The stone door opened, revealing piles of dark primordial stones stacked high. In the middle of a pile of stones, Qiao Yi was sleeping soundly.

Even after hearing the noise, Qiao Yi showed no intention of getting up.

"You didn’t bring any meat. What are you here for?"

Lei Lie snorted. "Qiao Yi, you really think you’re just living a comfortable life here?"

Qiao Yi lazily rolled over and shot him a sidelong glance. "Then kill me. Would you dare?"
