Chapter 409: Chapter 409: Summoning a Cheat for You

Qiao Xixi wanted to find a place to rest, but the forest behind her was pitch-black. There was no telling what dangers lurked in the darkness.

She didn’t act rashly. Kunlin was still unconscious anyway. If worse came to worst, she could just use the Long-tongued Vine to build a makeshift shelter for the night.

With this in mind, Qiao Xixi found a nearby spot and took the Long-tongued Vine out from her spatial storage.

Qiao Xixi dug a pit in the ground and buried the fruit of the Long-tongued Vine. Soon, having absorbed the power of the earth, the vine sprouted a tender green shoot.

The tender shoot swayed and tapped against Qiao Xixi’s hand. She couldn’t help but feel the thing was sentient.

"I have to spend the night in this godforsaken place. I’m counting on you."

After its tender green leaves brushed against her fingertips, the vine grew rapidly, transforming into a sturdy shelter in the blink of an eye.

To be safe, Qiao Xixi also buried Bubble Fruits all around the shelter.

Only after doing all this did she drag Kunlin into the shelter.

The moment they were inside, the Long-tongued Vine grew rapidly, sealing them in and leaving only small gaps for air.

After moving Kunlin to one side, Qiao Xixi took an animal-hide mat from her spatial storage, spread it on the ground, and lay down.

She was exhausted after such an ordeal of a day, but she couldn’t allow herself to sleep.

She opened her map to check their locations and saw that Sunxiao and the others had started moving. They were all heading towards the Watchtower in a surprisingly uniform manner, but none of them had met up yet. She had no idea what their situations were.

As Qiao Xixi was lost in thought, a heavy drowsiness washed over her. Several times, just as her eyes were about to close, she forced them open again. She wanted to stand up to clear her head, but while her mind urged her to move, her body wouldn’t budge.

The moment she finally succumbed to sleep, Kunlin’s eyes snapped open. As they did, his once-black pupils flashed with a crimson-black light.

He sat up, his face an emotionless mask. After glancing around the shelter, a cold, contemptuous sneer—one that was utterly unlike him—spread across his lips.

His gaze shifted to the sleeping Qiao Xixi. He stood up and walked over to her.

Qiao Xixi’s brows were furrowed, her sleep clearly troubled. Kunlin reached out and viciously squeezed her cheek.

The pain in her cheek made Qiao Xixi’s brow furrow even more tightly.

"Just a little female, yet you carry the scent of *his* beast soul’s energy. It seems he’s quite fond of you."

His crimson pupils narrowed. "And I just love destroying the things he likes."

The pressure from his hand gradually increased until Qiao Xixi’s face was nearly twisted out of shape.

Qiao Xixi was struggling to wake up.

She was aware of everything "Kunlin" was doing to her, but her body was frozen in place, utterly unable to move.

’This voice is so strange. It’s coming from Kunlin’s mouth, but it feels like someone else is speaking.’

’And who is this "he" he’s talking about? Besides Jin Ling and the others, whose aura could I possibly have on me?’

"Gah!"

Before Qiao Xixi could figure anything out, she felt him sadistically wrap his hand around her neck.

’Little Fiend! I’m about to die! Why haven’t you done anything?!’

’Ho-Host, don’t panic! I’m already summoning a power-up for you!’

The lack of air made Qiao Xixi’s head spin, but she knew she had to save herself!

Enduring the intense discomfort, Qiao Xixi silently chanted an incantation in her mind.

’Water.’

Qiao Xixi could feel the water of the Heavenly Pool beginning to rise rapidly.

"Kunlin" also sensed the abnormal aura. He glanced in the direction of the Heavenly Pool and used his free hand to pry open a slit in the Long-tongued Vine, revealing the sight of water droplets ascending into the air.

Before he could pull his hand back, the Long-tongued Vine suddenly snapped shut, clamping down hard on his fingers.

A dark look crossed "Kunlin’s" face, his crimson-hued eyes narrowing.

"A mere vine dares to act so presumptuously before me? You’re courting death!"

Just as "Kunlin" grabbed the vine, intending to rip it apart, Qiao Xixi’s eyes snapped open.

"Fire!"

In an instant, countless water droplets shot toward him.

"Kunlin’s" eyes narrowed. He released Qiao Xixi, and with a sweep of his hand, a gale of wind shattered the vine shelter and flew outward, forming a massive wall of air that blocked all the incoming water droplets.

In the brief moment his attention was diverted, Qiao Xixi took out a Bubble Fruit and threw it.

A thunderous BOOM echoed. While he was still reeling, Qiao Xixi grabbed the remains of the Long-tongued Vine from the ground, turned, and ran.

"Kunlin" lowered his hand and slowly turned his gaze to the fleeing Qiao Xixi.

"Did you really think you could escape?"

His body dissolved into a plume of dark red mist and shot after her like an arrow.

Qiao Xixi felt him closing in. Without looking back, she kept tossing Bubble Fruits behind her, but they didn’t seem to harm him in the slightest.

In no time, the dark red mist shot in front of her, coiling around her and lifting her off the ground.

"Where do you think you’re going?"

Qiao Xixi struggled to break free from his grasp, but the mist was like a rope—the more she struggled, the tighter it coiled around her.

"Who... are you!"

The dark red mist slowly coiled around her neck, tightening bit by bit.

A raspy voice whispered in her ear.

"Me? I am, of course, the being in this world that all of you fear. Hehehehehe... Die, female."

Qiao Xixi’s pupils constricted. Just as she began to form a hand seal, a blinding white light flashed before her eyes, and a powerful force slammed into the red mist.

The next moment, Qiao Xixi found herself falling into an unfamiliar embrace.

She looked up and saw Yun Ji, his entire body radiating a holy light.

"Yun Ji..."

Yun Ji glanced down at her. "Have you forgotten everything I taught you?"

Qiao Xixi pursed her lips. ’Of course I haven’t forgotten,’ she thought, ’but the Thunder Attraction technique is complicated. He moved too fast; I didn’t have time to complete the sequence.’

Yun Ji led her as they descended back to the ground.

The dark red mist solidified, once again taking on Kunlin’s form.

Seeing this, even Yun Ji’s normally placid and indifferent expression darkened.

"Come out."

"Kunlin’s" lips curled into a bizarre smile—an expression the real Kunlin would never make.

"Come out? And possess you instead? I could... if you’re willing."

With that, he dissolved back into mist and rushed toward Yun Ji.

Yun Ji pushed Qiao Xixi aside, transformed into a streak of white light, and shot forward to intertwine with the dark red mist.

Qiao Xixi could sense they were fighting, but as for *how* they fought, she couldn’t see a thing.

The two ascended into mid-air, and a strange pressure bore down from above, making Qiao Xixi’s entire body uncomfortable.

She formed a hand seal. "Wind."

A strong wind rose and swirled above her head, and she finally felt some relief.

"Go to hell!"

BOOM!

An explosion thundered in the sky. Qiao Xixi looked up just in time to see the white light revert to Yun Ji’s form as he plummeted from mid-air.

Her heart leaped in alarm. "Wind."

She rode the wind upward, shot forward to grab Yun Ji, and before their pursuer could follow, she pulled Yun Ji with her and leaped into the water.

"Kunlin" landed on the bank. He stared at the placid, ripple-free surface of the water, the corners of his lips stretching into a wide grin.

"You... cannot escape."
