Chapter 1468: Ready To Confront

The revelation that a catastrophic power slept within their bodies greatly disturbed the three Dragonborn. The Black Rage was not some external curse or forbidden Magic. It had always been there from the very beginning of their existence, quietly sleeping within their souls while waiting for the right circumstances to awaken.

None of them had ever known about it.

Since the day they were born, these Dragonborn had lived in isolation. They had never met another of their kind and had never possessed a mentor figure capable of teaching them about their true nature.

Everything they knew about their abilities came naturally through instinct and experience. They awakened their powers, learned to control them with surprising ease, and eventually continued walking their own paths.

Who could have imagined that beneath all of that power hid something capable of turning them into monsters in the blink of an eye?

The battle against a Cosmic Being and Erend’s transformation during that battle had completely opened their eyes to the truth.

Fortunately, the infirmary remained empty except for the four of them. The healers had already left after confirming their conditions were stable and no one would dare eavesdrop on a conversation involving four Dragonborn.

"So where do we start?" Eccar asked. His expression became serious as he looked directly at Erend.

Erend leaned against the wall beside the beds and let out a quiet sigh before answering.

"I’ve been meditating for the past several days," he began. "Unfortunately, I haven’t made much progress. The Black Rage exists within your subconscious, so you’ll eventually encounter it whenever you meditate deeply enough."

The three of them listened attentively.

"When you do," Erend continued, "you’ll need to perform the meditation near the Sky Anchor and with Velrion’s assistance. The Sky Anchor can suppress the Black Rage if something goes wrong. Of course, that doesn’t mean you can rely on her entirely. You still have to resist and suppress it yourselves from within."

Eccar, Aesa, and Sylven silently imagined what it would feel like to enter their subconscious and directly confront the terrifying power sleeping within their souls.

"We should start as soon as possible," Sylven said after a moment. "The sooner we do this, the better."

"No." Erend immediately shook his head. "Don’t rush it. Your bodies haven’t fully recovered yet. If something goes wrong while confronting the Black Rage, it’ll only make things worse. Remember that this entire process is about control. If you want to achieve that, then your physical condition needs to be at its best first."

The three Dragonborn fell silent once again.

After a few moments, Sylven nodded slowly. "I suppose you’re right."

"Rest first," Erend said. "Once you’ve fully recovered, then we’ll begin."

With that, their conversation came to an end.

Erend immediately returned to his private chamber beneath Velrion’s tower to continue his meditation. At the moment, there was nothing more important than mastering the Black Rage. Every day that passed without progress only strengthened his determination to continue.

Meanwhile, Leonora slowly recovered from the aftermath of the invasion. The rubble that once filled the streets gradually disappeared. The remnants of the Void Architect’s flesh and corpses were carefully collected and destroyed by the kingdom’s mages.

Although King Garrie had not awakened yet, the city had begun moving forward once more. Reconstruction efforts continued throughout the capital, and hope slowly returned to its people.

Several more days passed.

Inside his solitary chamber beneath the Archmage’s Tower, Erend slowly opened his eyes after another meditation session.

Once again, he had failed.

The Black Rage remained exactly as it had always been. It neither weakened nor changed despite his repeated attempts to understand it.

Erend let out a long sigh before rubbing his forehead. At this point, he had begun wondering whether this was something that could truly be mastered within one lifetime.

Then, a familiar telepathic connection suddenly reached his mind.

"We’ve recovered."

It was Eccar.

Erend immediately sat upright.

"Already?" he asked.

"The healers have confirmed that all three of us are fine now," Eccar replied. "Aesa and Sylven are here as well."

Erend smiled slightly upon hearing that. "That’s good. Meet me outside Velrion’s tower. We’ll begin immediately."

"We’re finally going to do it?" Sylven’s voice suddenly joined the telepathic connection.

"Yes," Erend replied. "It’s time for all of you to meet the Black Rage."

The connection soon ended.

Not long after, the four Dragonborn made their way toward the underground chamber that housed the Sky Anchor alongside Velrion himself.

After passing through multiple layers of security, they finally entered the sacred chamber.

For Eccar, Aesa, and Sylven, this was their first time witnessing the fully restored Sky Anchor.

The enormous crystal monolith stood proudly at the center of the chamber. Gentle streams of pure white energy flowed beneath her flawless crystalline surface and a soothing warmth spread throughout the room. Just standing in her presence filled their hearts with peace and tranquility.

The three Dragonborn instinctively paused to admire the ancient Creation before them.

"It’s beautiful..." Aesa muttered softly.

Sylven could only nod silently in agreement.

The Sky Anchor immediately sensed their presence and gently greeted them.

"Welcome, Dragonborns," her melodious feminine voice echoed directly within their minds. "I have yet to properly thank the three of you for helping save this world. Without all four Dragonborn fighting together, I would never have been freed from the Void Architect’s influence."

Eccar smiled faintly and nodded toward the crystal monolith. "You’ve already thanked Erend," he said. "That’s more than enough for us."

"No," the Sky Anchor replied gently. "All of you deserve my gratitude equally. The burden of protecting worlds should never belong to one Dragonborn alone."

The warmth within her voice caused the atmosphere inside the chamber to become even gentler.

Erend then stepped forward and explained the purpose of their visit.

"They’ll be doing the same thing I did several weeks ago," he said while glancing toward his companions. "They need to confront the Black Rage inside their subconscious."

"I understand," the Sky Anchor replied immediately. "Then I shall gladly lend all of you my power. If anything goes wrong, I will suppress the Black Rage to the best of my abilities."

"Thank you," Aesa said sincerely.

Meanwhile, Velrion had already begun preparing the ritual materials in one corner of the chamber. Various herbs, crystals, and Magical minerals floated quietly above the ritual circle as he carefully arranged everything in their proper positions.

Beside the ritual formation lay three simple artifacts nearly identical to the one Erend carried. They had yet to be completed but would soon become suppressants for the Black Rage once their meditation was finished.

Velrion looked toward the three Dragonborn before speaking.

"Everything is ready," he said. "Once you’ve confronted the Black Rage, I’ll complete the artifacts for each of you."

The atmosphere inside the underground chamber gradually became serious. The three Dragonborn were about to confront the greatest threat hidden within their own existence.

None of them knew what exactly awaited them inside their subconscious.
