Chapter 1467: Several Days Later

Several days passed quietly as Erend remained in Leonora. He spent most of his time waiting for Eccar, Sylven, and Aesa to awaken inside his private room.

After speaking with Velrion, Erend had been given a room of his own for a very particular reason. He needed a place where he could safely train himself to control the Black Rage without endangering anyone else.

Naturally, Velrion had agreed almost immediately. The Archmage had no intention of allowing Erend’s unstable power to affect the surrounding Magical energy or cause an accident while experimenting with something as dangerous as the Black Rage.

The room itself wasn’t luxurious. In fact, it was located directly beneath Velrion’s tower rather than within the royal palace’s more extravagant quarters.

Erend had never cared much for luxury anyway. All he needed was privacy and safety. More importantly, he wanted to ensure the safety of everyone around him rather than his own.

Its location beneath Velrion’s tower made it ideal for that purpose. Velrion could easily reinforce the chamber with multiple barriers and dispatch several contracted spirits to contain any energy that leaked from Erend’s body. If something unexpected happened during his training, the Archmage would immediately know.

During those few days, Erend continued meditating without fail. The everyday session followed the same routine. He entered his subconscious and confronted the dormant mass of black energy sleeping within him and every single time, he observed it from a distance while resisting its subtle temptation and oppressive presence.

And every single time, he felt as though he had made absolutely no progress.

The Black Rage remained exactly as it had always been, a stubborn, uncontrollable, and terrifyingly powerful power.

Whenever he opened his eyes after a meditation session, faint wisps of black mist would slowly dissipate around his body before eventually returning to him. The sight had become strangely familiar over the past several days.

This method wasn’t leading anywhere. At least not yet.

The Black Rage remained dormant for now and the artifact Velrion had created helped suppress its influence, but Erend couldn’t help wondering what would happen in the future. Would he eventually lose control during battle? Would he become the very disaster he feared most?

Erend felt like a ticking time bomb right now.

But then, life continued moving forward.

During his spare time, he contacted both Arty and his mother through Telepathy to assure them that he was safe. He informed them that he would return home once his business in this world had concluded.

Naturally, he did not say most of the details regarding Nyssara and the Black Rage. There was no reason to make them worry any more than necessary.

Finally, after several days of waiting, Eccar opened his eyes. Not long afterward, Aesa and Sylven also regained their consciousness as well.

The healers immediately informed Erend of the news. Without wasting a single moment, he hurried toward the infirmary.

The moment he entered the room and saw his three Dragonborn friends awake and sitting on their beds, an overwhelming sense of relief washed over him. A wide smile immediately appeared on his face.

He walked toward them and stopped beside their beds.

The three Dragonborn turned their heads toward him almost simultaneously.

"You woke up first?" Eccar asked with a raised eyebrow.

"Yeah," Erend replied with a smile as he nodded.

Sylven frowned slightly. "How is that possible? Weren’t you the one who suffered the most serious injuries?"

Erend simply shrugged.

"Well, as you already know," he said casually, "I’m not exactly ordinary. Even for a Dragonborn."

Sylven stared at him for several moments before eventually sighing. "I suppose that’s an explanation..." he said, though his expression clearly showed that he didn’t entirely understand.

Erend chuckled softly before changing the subject.

"How are all of you feeling?" he asked while looking at each of them in turn.

"I’m mostly fine," Aesa answered first. "My body is still a little sore, but that’s to be expected after a battle of that scale."

Eccar and Sylven gave similar answers. Although they still felt some lingering pain throughout their bodies, they had largely recovered and didn’t suffer any serious aftereffects.

Erend nodded in satisfaction after hearing their responses.

Then, after several moments of silence, his expression gradually became serious. "I’m sorry," he said quietly. "I could’ve seriously injured all of you. Or worse."

The room immediately fell silent. The memories from that battle resurfaced in their minds almost instantly.

They remembered watching Erend transform into something that could only be described as a calamity. His overwhelming fury and terrifying power had completely swallowed everything around him. Even now, just recalling that moment sent chills down their spines.

"Erend," Aesa finally said, "what exactly happened back then? Eccar mentioned something called... the Black Rage."

Erend walked toward her bedside before lowering himself slightly so that they were at eye level. His expression remained serious as he answered quietly.

"It’s a power that exists within every Dragonborn," he explained. "It amplifies our anger and turns it into destructive power."

"All of us have something like that?" she asked in disbelief. Shock immediately appeared on Aesa’s face.

Erend nodded slowly. "Yes. Unfortunately."

He then shifted his gaze toward Sylven, who lay on the bed nearby. The Plant Dragon wore an expression of genuine fear and surprise.

Despite being hundreds or perhaps even thousands of years old, Sylven’s youthful appearance always caught Erend off guard. He constantly had to remind himself that Sylven wasn’t a child but an ancient Dragonborn whose age far exceeded that of most civilizations.

But at this moment Sylven truly looked like a frightened young man who had just learned that a terrible monster slept inside his own body.

And unfortunately for all of them, that monster was real.

Eccar, who already knew about this, just sighed in silence.

"What should we do?" Aesa asked. "You always have a solution, right?"

"Not this time," Erend said with a regretful voice. "But I will not give up to find the way."

Aesa let out a sigh, and said, "I guess that is enough."
