Chapter 1445: Intensifying

"ROAR!"

Erend’s roar resounded across the sky and the blackened earth. It sounded different from before. It was shriller and deeper at the same time. The sound also seemed layered, as though a dozen throats were roaring together in unison.

Eccar and Sylven looked toward Erend. They immediately felt that his aura had changed. It was stronger than before, but it also filled them with even greater worry and fear.

However, they immediately shot toward Aesa, who was falling from the sky. Nyssara’s clones no longer pursued them. Instead, they remained motionless in their positions because Nyssara herself had shifted all of her attention toward Erend’s transformation. Her clones naturally followed wherever her focus was directed.

Eccar and Sylven folded their wings tightly against their backs and dived, forcing themselves even faster toward Aesa’s rapidly falling body.

"She seems to have lost consciousness," Sylven said.

"Yes. We have to hurry," Eccar replied before using his Magic to propel himself into an even faster dive.

Sylven stayed close behind him.

"What happened to Erend?" he asked.

Eccar could not answer immediately. He was just as confused. What could they possibly do for Erend right now when his Rage had already reached such a terrifying level?

"I think," Eccar finally said, "we should let Erend fight Nyssara for now. Let’s focus on Aesa first, then think about our next plan afterward."

"All right," Sylven replied.

Anxious thoughts continued filling his mind. He did not know what was happening to Erend right now. The only thing he knew was that Erend seemed to be losing himself. He wanted to ask Eccar more questions, but this was not the time.

They finally caught Aesa before she struck the ground. Eccar supported her upper body while Sylven grabbed her lower body, slowing her descent before the three of them landed gently upon the scorched black earth below.

Aesa’s condition was not too severe. She had taken a heavy blow to the head, but her Dragon Scales had protected her from suffering greater damage.

A few moments later, Aesa returned to her human form and lay upon the blackened ground. Eccar and Sylven also changed back into their human forms.

Aesa slowly opened her eyes.

The first thing she saw was the battle still raging high above them.

Her eyes frowned slightly when she noticed the lightning filling the sky.

"Erend has become a Lightning Dragon?" she asked.

"Like you can see," Eccar answered with a sigh.

"What about the Rage?"

"It’s getting worse."

Aesa’s expression immediately became solemn with worry.

"What should we do now?"

"We can only wait," Eccar said. "I hate to say this, but Erend is at an incredibly powerful stage right now. He might be able to defeat Nyssara alone."

"But is it really a good idea to let him remain in that Black Rage state for so long?"

"I don’t think it is," Eccar admitted. "But I don’t know any other way. Our main problem right now is Nyssara. Once she’s defeated, then we can think about Erend."

Aesa and Sylven, who had been listening quietly the entire time, said nothing.

They simply looked up at the sky and watched Erend rampage. His lightning had become darker. But it had also become much stronger.

Erend unleashed dozens of high-powered lightning bolts toward Nyssara’s enormous eye. Each bolt tore across the sky like a spear forged from blackened lightning, leaving jagged trails of distorted air behind them.

Nyssara immediately thrust countless appendages forward to block the incoming barrage.

The first lightning bolt struck.

BOOM!

An appendage exploded apart the instant it made contact. Before Nyssara could react, another bolt crashed into a second appendage.

BOOM!

Then more of it came. The barrage continued without pause.

Every lightning bolt carried overwhelming destructive force. The impact shattered another appendage into blackened fragments that scattered across the sky. The remaining bolts slipped through the growing gaps in her defense and slammed into her body. Dark lightning spread violently across her.

Nyssara felt violent shocks surge through every part of her body. The lightning did not simply burn her flesh. It invaded deep into her body, causing violent spasms throughout her serpentine body as black currents crawled beneath her skin. Even the black star suspended inside her body flickered slightly under the relentless black lightning assault.

At this point, Nyssara’s instincts screamed at her. If she continued taking those black lightning attacks head-on, she would not merely lose this battle. Her soul would be burned as well.

And whatever damage her soul suffered here would eventually reach her true body, which still existed far away.

That outcome was unacceptable.

Without hesitation, Nyssara reached toward her true body once again. She drew out even more of her power.

But this time, she had already exceeded the amount she could safely transfer. There was no longer enough power left to borrow.

So she reached deeper. Past the endless reservoir of power, past the connection linking this avatar to her true self.

She reached her own soul.

A fragment of Nyssara’s soul slowly separated from her true body before traveling through the invisible connection that bound both existences together. The process caused faint ripples to spread across the space as that fragment crossed an impossible distance before descending into the avatar.

It was not a dangerous amount. But it was still a considerable portion of her soul.

She had already broken the oath long ago. At this point, she no longer cared about the consequences. The only thing that mattered was surviving.

The fragment merged with the avatar. Immediately, Nyssara’s body began changing again.

Her enormous serpentine body collapsed inward as though compressed by an invisible force.

The countless coils rapidly shortened while the endless length of her body reshaped itself into a towering humanoid figure.

Moments later, the transformation finished. Nyssara no longer resembled a colossal serpent. Instead, she stood as a gigantic humanoid being.

Her body remained pitch-black, covered with countless appendages that continuously writhed across her arms, back, shoulders, and legs.

The black stars still floated within her body, shining brighter than ever before as disturbing black light pulsed from its core.

Although her new form was only half the size of her previous serpentine body, the aura surrounding her became vastly denser.

The pressure she released no longer spread over an enormous area. But compressed into a terrifying concentration that caused the surrounding space to distort violently. She radiated a power far greater than before.
