Chapter 1444: Now Lightning

Erend’s heart pounded violently inside his chest the moment he saw the battlefield unfold before him. A crushing weight pressed against his chest until every breath became difficult. Fear tightened around his heart as he watched Eccar, Aesa, and Sylven become completely surrounded by Nyssara’s clones.

Although each clone possessed only a fraction of Nyssara’s true strength, they were still powerful enough to threaten the exhausted Dragonborn.

His friends’ Magic reserves had already dwindled to dangerous levels while Nyssara herself had only continued growing stronger. Every passing second caused the balance of the battle to shift further against them, and the possibility of victory became slimmer before his eyes.

"WHERE ARE YOU LOOKING?!"

Nyssara’s voice thundered across the sky, snapping Erend’s attention back toward her.

The cosmic being moved instantly.

Her serpentine body blurred through the air with terrifying speed before crashing directly into Erend.

At the same moment, countless appendages lashed at him like enormous black spears. Some slammed into his chest while others struck his wings and sides, forcing his massive Dragon body completely off course.

The impact sent Erend hurtling across the battlefield, carrying him farther and farther away from his companions.

BOOM!

His body tore through layers of clouds before finally regaining balance hundreds of meters from where Eccar and the others continued fighting for their lives.

Nyssara watched him with a cold gaze. Finally, the greatest obstacle had been separated from the others.

Now the remaining three Dragonborn would have to face her clones without Erend’s overwhelming strength protecting them. As long as she kept Erend occupied, their dwindling Magic would eventually fail them.

Nyssara felt the advantage beginning to shift toward her.

Erend immediately turned his head, desperately searching for his friends again.

His crimson eyes darted across the chaotic battlefield.

He could still see flashes of emerald vines, silver ice, and golden earth Magic exploding among the countless clones.

But they were surrounded. His heartbeat became even faster.

"No... they’re running out of Magic..."

The thought struck him harder than any attack. Greater fear spread through him. Not fear for himself but for them, that he would fail to protect the people fighting beside him.

Then he saw it.

Far across the battlefield, a white-and-blue Dragon body suddenly fell from the sky.

Aesa tumbled uncontrollably through the air, her wings struggling to recover as several of Nyssara’s clones pursued her relentlessly.

Something inside Erend cracked. The emotion he had forced down ever since regaining his senses surged once more.

The Black Rage answered his fear.

Hatred, desperation, the overwhelming desire to annihilate anything threatening those he cared about. It all come again.

Darkness seeped into the blazing fire covering his body again. Crimson flames slowly blackened from within until streaks of ink-like fire spread across every blazing current surrounding him.

The heat exploded with renewed violence as the air screamed beneath the pressure.

Erend’s breathing became heavier. His pupils narrowed. The clarity he had fought so hard to regain began slipping once again beneath the crushing tide of hatred.

His gaze slowly settled upon Nyssara.

The cosmic being saw the change immediately. Without giving him even a single opportunity to move, countless appendages erupted from every direction, surged through the sky.

Before Erend could react, they crashed into him from every side.

One coiled around his neck and more of them wrapped tightly around both of his arms.

Others bound his legs and twisted around his wings, pinning them firmly against his body.

More appendages wrapped around his torso and tail until layer after layer completely imprisoned the Fire Dragon once again.

This time, they tightened immediately. The crushing pressure spread across every part of Erend’s body.

Nyssara poured even more of her true power into every appendage, refusing to repeat her earlier mistake. She would never allow Erend to escape again and do something that messes up her plan again.

However, at that moment, Nyssara suddenly found herself witnessing something even more shocking.

A brilliant white and blue light erupted from Erend’s restrained body.

The radiance exploded with blinding intensity. Thick currents of lightning burst from between the countless appendages wrapped around him, spreading wildly.

The bolts of lightning crackled with power as they arced through the air, illuminating the sky with flashes of dazzling white and brilliant blue.

"Lightning?" Nyssara thought in alarm.

She had not known Erend possessed another power. How could a single Dragonborn wield more than one form of power?

The revelation stunned her for a short moment. That single moment was all Erend needed.

The lightning surrounding his body suddenly intensified. His Dragon body changed instantly as crimson scales dissolved into brilliant white and azure ones that gleamed.

His horns lengthened into sharper shapes while countless arcs of lightning surged across every scale on his body. The transformation released an enormous burst of electrical power that detonated in every direction.

BOOM!

Violent lightning exploded from his body.

Several of the appendages wrapped around him shattered immediately because of that. Some of them were blown apart by the explosion while others were sliced apart as countless lightning bolts tore through them, leaving trails of scorched black flesh drifting across the air.

For an instant, Erend looked like the embodiment of a raging thunderstorm.

But then, something else happened.

The brilliant lightning began to darken.

White currents slowly became stained with black, as if darkness itself flowed through every bolt. The once-pure blue flashes dimmed into an unsettling shade that seemed to swallow the surrounding light rather than illuminate it.

At the same time, Erend’s radiant white and blue scales became veiled in spreading darkness.

Black patterns crept across his scale, covering their brilliant luster with an unnatural shadow. Dark electricity coiled around his body, crackling violently as every discharge carried both overwhelming destructive force and a sinister aura.

The air around him was distorted. Every flash of lightning no longer brought clarity. Instead, each pulse filled the battlefield with an uncanny darkness that made even Nyssara instinctively tense.

The Black Rage had reached his Lightning Dragon power.
