Chapter 1440: Get Back
Erend snapped back to consciousness the moment he heard the shouts from his three Dragonborn friends. It felt as though he had been pulled out of a deep pool after drowning. He felt as though water had filled his lungs, making it difficult for him to breathe.
That feeling was terrifying.
It felt as though his mind had been slipping away from his brain and becoming someone else’s.
He looked around and saw a dark red mist.
"What happened to me?" Erend thought.
A moment later, he realized that the red mist around him was evaporating blood.
That blood was coming from his own body.
Then, as though he had just caught up with reality, Erend felt the pain as the appendages tightened around his body.
He groaned.
Then he saw Eccar and the others coming toward him.
Through their telepathic connection, Erend could feel how worried they were about him.
He did not know what had happened, but he knew one thing.
Whatever it was, it did not matter right now.
The only thing that mattered was defeating Nyssara.
When Erend looked at Nyssara again, he saw that she had already lost most of her appendages. But she did not seem to have weakened.
Instead, she had become much stronger.
"I’m fine," Erend sent to Eccar, Aesa, and Sylven at the same time.
Immediately, he felt waves of relief from all of them.
"Whatever happened to me isn’t important right now. We have to destroy her."
"Yes, but you’re still trapped by those appendages," Eccar replied.
"No need to worry. Trust me, I’ll be able to handle this. The three of you just focus on Nyssara," Erend said firmly.
Sensing his feelings, they knew Erend was confident now.
They immediately agreed with his suggestion, then turned around and flew straight toward Nyssara once again.
Nyssara now saw the three Dragonborn charging toward her.
She felt her anger rising once again. Then, feeling it was still not enough, she drew even more of her real power from her true body into this avatar. She felt herself becoming filled with even greater power.
Eccar, Aesa, and Sylven closed the distance in an instant. They streaked across the sky from three different directions while also leaving behind a trail of overwhelming elemental power that split through the atmosphere.
Nyssara’s enormous eye shifted between them. Her remaining appendages lashed at them immediately.
Several of them shot toward Eccar and whipped at Aesa and Sylven, trying to stopped all three Dragonborn before they could reach her.
Eccar opened his jaws and a golden and black sphere of compressed earth Magic rapidly formed before shooting at her. The projectile smashed into the incoming appendages.
BOOM!
That created several explosions that broke apart the fragments of the appendages and made them scattered across the sky.
At the same time Aesa inhaled deeply before releasing an enormous torrent of freezing breath. A silver-white storm engulfed Nyssara’s left side.
Layer after layer of power ice Magic rapidly spread across her appendages and sections of her cosmic body, slowing their movements as frost consumed them.
Sylven followed immediately. His body glowed with emerald Magic. Countless enormous vines burst from glowing green Magic circles surrounding him before surging through the air at Nyssara.
The vines wrapped around Nyssara’s appendages and coiled tightly around them before countless branches erupted their thorns, piercing into the already damaged cosmic flesh.
Nyssara shrieked again. The appendages struggled violently. Several of them tore free from the vines through sheer force while others shattered the surrounding ice with explosive bursts of dark energy.
She retaliated instantly. Dozens of appendages swept across the battlefield from every direction.
Eccar twisted through the attacks while unleashing rapid streams of glowing earth spears that detonated against every tendril attempting to surround him.
Aesa beat her wings sharply, creating enormous waves of freezing wind that deflected several appendages before she slashed with both her claws and sent blades of condensed ice forward, slicing through multiple tendrils at once.
Sylven remained directly behind them. His vines continued multiplying, spreading over the sky and creating sights like a living forest in the sky.
But every Nyssara’s appendages that were destroyed were immediately replaced by several more as they continued binding her limbs and slowing her movements.
The three Dragonborn attacked without pause. Earth, ice, and living plants struck Nyssara again and again from different angles, forcing the cosmic being to divide her attention while Erend remained restrained behind her.
Erend struggled against the countless appendages crushing his body from every direction. His muscles tensed beneath his Dragon Scales. The blazing black fire still erupted across his body once more. And finally the restraints creaked.
Several appendages trembled under the pressure. But they did not break. Nyssara had poured too much of her true power into them. No matter how much strength Erend used, the appendages only tightened further.
Cracks spread across his scales again and pain shot through his entire body.
Erend immediately abandoned the attempt and forced his mind to calm despite the lingering echoes of the Black Rage.
"Brute force won’t work."
An idea crossed his mind. Without hesitating, Erend allowed his Dragon body to change.
The massive crimson Dragon rapidly shrank. The enormous wings disappeared. His tail dissolved. The blazing scales receded into his skin as his body changed back into his human form.
The transformation happened so quickly that even Nyssara’s enormous eye widened slightly.
The appendages, which had been wrapped tightly around a colossal Dragon body, suddenly found themselves coiling around air when open spaces immediately appeared between the layers of tendrils.
His body squeezed through the openings until he finally escaped the restraints altogether.
Erend fell through the air.
Nyssara reacted instantly and sent several appendages toward the falling Erend.
But they were too late. Red light burst from his body once again. His human body rapidly expanded and scarlet scales covered him in an instant. Massive wings unfolded with explosive force.
Erend changed back into his Dragon body. He beat his wings, the tremendous force instantly halted his fall before propelling him up again.
The surrounding air exploded beneath him as he shot through the sky like a crimson meteor wrapped in blazing black fire.
His speed increased every second. The flames trailing behind him stretched for hundreds of meters.
Nyssara watched him rushing straight toward her once again. Her enormous eye narrowed. She thought that she needs to gather more of her true power now.
