Chapter 70: Legacy of the [Blaze]

Putting away his dark thoughts, he continued.

He believed that too much focus on revenge tended to make a person vengeful, which in turn narrowed one’s vision, leading them to miss the good things they already had.

No matter how much one suffered, if they focused too much on that suffering, in the end, they would become no different from the one who originally caused it. Which was far worse.

He had his friends,m and in the future, if he ever felt like taking revenge, he would just bring them along, steamroll his enemies and call it a day.

No need to waste any more energy. But he also knew that maybe he was still so optimistic simply because he hadn’t suffered enough to truly break him yet.

Sniff... sniff... sniff.

He heard it again...

It’s that girl’s crying again...

It felt like it was coming from all directions.

He immediately spread his awareness and after using every bit of his mental capabilities, he managed to make out its general direction.

As he ran, the crying voice became more and more audible, a clear proof that he was getting closer.

As he moved, he came across more legacies.

The closer he got to the voice, the more the density of the legacies increased, as if a massive cluster of them had gathered in one place.

He didn’t forget to check the legacies as he passed by, but most of them didn’t catch his interest and the ones that did were already surrounded by large crowds of students.

The one that made him pause for a bit was a legacy in the shape of a silver sword covered in old bandages.

He saw Alex and Lily standing there.

Alex seemed much more interested in talking to Lily than actually challenging the legacy.

Night wondered, Does he like her?

That Alex was reckless and didn’t know the meaning of control.

Remembering the dangerous attack Alex had used near Sage during the monster wave, Night was still low-key pissed about it. He watched as the timid Lily spotted Daisy and immediately ran over to her, completely ignoring Alex.

I should inform Daisy about this guy, Night thought righteously, not knowing how much trouble it would cause Alex.

To be honest, even if he did know, he wouldn’t care in the slightest.

Seeing that the sisters were fine, he continued following the voice.

....

As he kept running, the number of legacies kept increasing exponentially.

After some distance, he saw a thick mist barrier. Crossing through it, he stepped into a vast, open area.

Ahead of him was a huge, pyramid-like structure with endless rows of gray stone staircases leading up to the heavens, seemingly with no end.

He could see students climbing them. Each step held a number of legacies and below each legacy, there was text carved into the stone.

Half out of curiosity and half because the crying voice was definitely coming from somewhere above, he started climbing the steps.

The vertical height of the steps was small, but the flat surface of each step was incredibly wide, probably to accommodate the sheer volume of legacies.

Yes, legacies, each individual step held hundreds, if not thousands of them.

He moved closer to a legacy that looked like a yellow rock floating in the air.

Below it, on a gray tablet, he saw some text that looked like someone had scribbled it while completely drunk.

But almost immediately, the magical text adjusted into English, making it much easier for him to read.

[Rock Grinder Spirit Lord]

Hmmm, rubbing his chin, Night thought, this is pretty neat.

If the legacies down below had informative nameplates like this, he probably would have avoided the ’Legendary Beast Emperor’s’ legacy altogether just by reading its obnoxious name.

All of a sudden, the crying voice abruptly stopped.

Night looked up, puzzled, wondering what had happened.

But immediately after, he felt an intense heat rise within him. His [Soul Fire] violently flared to life, and his blue eyes turned faint as the invisible flames danced within his pupils.

Night instantly felt that something up ahead was pulling him or rather, it was actively pulling the [Soul Fire] inside him upwards.

Not knowing what it was, he continued climbing toward the source of this sensation.

....

Far away...

On a planet that had twelve stars revolving around it...

A man sat in a simple hut, repeatedly trying to divine what had happened with the ’brat’.

After repeated divinations, he finally understood where the boy was.

The man exclaimed in realization, "I see. The Inheritance Ground?"

No wonder I can’t sense him.

The Inheritance Ground was the most common system event. Though the System classified it as a ’Hidden Event’, virtually everyone knew about it.

For this event, the System collected legacies from all across the cosmos.

This was a method used by the System to preserve the Records of past masters while simultaneously boosting the Records of the new Awakeners in newly integrated universes.

Most of these legacies belonged to universes that had already dissolved and reached their natural end.

But it also contained legacies from the current active powers in the cosmos as well. It was one of the primary ways the cosmic factions naturally expanded their influence.

In fact, a long time ago, his daughter had managed to convince him to place his own legacy inside it, too.

Focusing his divine sense, he actively triggered that specific legacy so it would be easier for the boy to find it now.

The man thought about how flamboyant his legacy was and couldn’t help but feel a little proud of himself.

....

As Night climbed the steps, he saw many other students congregating in this area as well.

Many of them had various colored fires flashing and swirling uncontrollably around them.

The source of this fiery anomaly was a lot higher up than he had expected.

They had already climbed thousands of steps when he finally felt the [Soul Fire] inside him almost leap out of his chest in excitement.

He quickly understood the reason why.

On this particular step, there was a huge roaring blue flame that looked like a massive bonfire.

There were no other legacies around it; all of them were pushed much further away, as if forced to give this legacy ample space to express its might.

Beside him, he heard the other students whispering.

"Whose legacy do you think this is?"

"I don’t know, but looking at its glory and the violent reaction it’s causing to my Spirit Fire, it must belong to a powerhouse."

"Has anyone entered it?"

"Yes, I saw someone enter it just a moment ago."

"I think I will wait for that person to come out."

"Yes, I’ll wait as well..."

Seeing the other students take a passive approach, Night also decided to wait.

There was always a high probability that the person currently inside might successfully claim the legacy anyway, honestly nothing could be done about it.

And instead of just standing there stalking the blue flame, he decided to look around the immediate area.

Watching him move away, some of the other students decided to look around as well. A week was a long time, but it certainly wasn’t enough to explore this seemingly infinite space.

After wandering around the wide step for a little bit, he surprisingly heard that girl’s crying voice again.

He focused his senses, but the voice was a lot fainter now.

Some distance ahead, he heard a boy ask, "Do you hear it too?"

The girl beside him nodded. "Yes, I hear it too. It’s coming from this legacy."

Night looked toward where the girl was pointing. He saw a small floating ball in the air. It was surrounded by a faint purple mist-like aura.

As he closed the distance, he heard the voice clearly.

"Please save me... sniff, sniff..."

"I am stuck..."

"I will give you my legacy..."

"Just let me out of here..."

"Please..."

The voice just kept going on a loop, sounding like it would never stop until it was finally freed.

Looking at the purple ball, he saw the other students backing away, no longer interested in it at all.

"What is this legacy?" Night asked the girl before she could leave as well.

The girl looked at Night and became a little shy upon seeing his intense, focused gaze. The boy with her, however, looked at Night warily.

She explained softly, "Actually, it is one of those trap legacies that will demand you to revive it, or something like that."

"In reality, most of them simply want to forcefully possess your body to resurrect themselves. So no one here wants to risk trying these types of suspicious legacies."

Night looked at her as his lips twitched. So that ’Beast Emperor’ guy was one of these types! No wonder he immediately dropped the whole ’test’ part when I was in a hurry to leave.

"You should just ignore it. It just wants to trick people with its pitiful act," she advised, before walking away with the boy.

Immediately, Night felt the crying voice become even more desperate.

Night looked at the floating purple legacy and stood there in silence for quite a while.

Then, he heard a loud commotion nearby. He walked closer and saw a crowd of students surrounding a girl with red hair.

One of the boys begged, "Can you share whose legacy that blue flame is? I am willing to pay whatever price you wish!"

The girl looked perfectly fine and didn’t look like she had just challenged some super-strong legacy, which initially disappointed many of the spectating students.

But the next words that came out of her mouth made them almost want to sprint and enter the legacy immediately.

She announced breathlessly, "It is the legacy of one of the two Human Primordial Gods! It is the legacy of [Blaze] himself!"

Night immediately started backing away.

Shit... I almost delivered myself right onto a silver platter.

Not knowing what else to do, he looked back at the purple orb. He decided he might as well try the crying girl’s legacy.

In the rare case that it was a genuine situation, he might at least earn some good karma...
