Chapter 69: dope legacee like dis...

Not being able to figure it out, he shrugged and moved on.

Life was too short for this shit.

Just ahead, he saw a huge door with many symbols carved onto it. Some of them resembled fire, some drops of water, some grains of sand... it looked like the legacy of a big boss.

Hundreds of students were crowded around it. He walked close to a short kid and asked, "What’s up with this legacy?"

The short kid looked him up and down, then clicked his tongue. "Che, pretty boi," he muttered, and resumed staring at the door like the others.

Just when Night thought he had been ignored, the kid said without turning around, "Mwan, this is da first time imma see a dope legacee like dis."

Night struggled to understand what the kid was saying, but at least he was loud for his size, so he barely managed to piece it together.

"Really?" Night asked.

The kid looked at him. "Duh, have ya seen the other legacees?"

Night nodded. "Umu, umu."

"Wuat?" the kid asked.

"I mean, yes," Night corrected himself.

Rolling his eyes, the kid explained, "The outha kids saids this is da legacee of a Primordial himsel!!!"

At this, the kid’s eyes shined like gold...

Another kid beside him chimed in, "There are only 12 Primordial Gods in the cosmos! Clearing this means becoming one’s Blessed for sure!"

I see, Night thought.

This legacy is popular because getting it means a direct connection with one of the strongest beings in the Cosmos.

Night left without bothering to give the door another look.

Too much politics with this one.

Besides, I doubt there is any idiot God or even a Primordial, for that matter, who would want to bless me...

....

Far away...

On a planet that, instead of revolving around a star, had twelve stars revolving around it instead...

In a simple hut sat a man covered in ancient totems from head to toe. He had simple fiery red hair.

Achooo!

The temperature of more than half the planet instantly raised at that single sneeze...

Who is badmouthing me?

Is it that bratty great-great-great-granddaughter of mine?

It must be her... definitely... she is just a toddler and yet curses like a sailor...

I wonder who she learned it from...

Shaking his head, he muttered, "Hummhumm... now let’s look at that brat who stole my granddaughter’s toy..."

Hmmm... where is he?

As he focused hard...

Gone?

Don’t tell me this brat also ran off with it into the [VOID] like that thieving crow...

....

Let’s look for one simple legacy that doesn’t bring much trouble... Night thought, continuing his peaceful adventure through the misty plains.

As he walked, he came across multiple legacies, and all of them had groups of people crowded around them, so he decided to run deeper into the mist.

After running for an hour, he finally saw a legacy with no one beside it.

It was a glowing globe with different beast images projecting from it... some of them looked like mighty dragons, phoenixes and rocs, while some were as simple as a horned rabbit and one even looked like a common cat.

Immediately, he fell in love with the legacy.

Is this a Summoner legacy?

Damn, my luck is on faiya...

He didn’t want to admit it, but he had been a little affected by that short boy’s way of speaking earlier.

Shaking his head, he looked around.

Seeing no one nearby, he reached for the globe and touched it. Immediately, he felt a powerful pulling sensation. While he was being pulled in, he thought he heard the faint sound of a girl crying.

....

Inside the Legacy

Night stood within a huge, empty hall covered in pictures of beasts and monsters spanning the walls, the floor and the ceiling.

He tried to focus, but he couldn’t hear the girl’s crying sound anymore.

Ignoring it and thinking he was just hearing things, he focused on the pictures instead.

The sheer aura radiating from just the illustrations alone spooked him.

If just the pictures are like this, what about the real things? Night thought.

Excited to find a powerful legacy, he looked around. Just then, he got a System notification.

[You are in the legacy of the Legendary Beast Emperor.]

Legendary Beast Emperor? What confused him was the word ’Beast’.

He was a newbie Summoner, sure but he had Eve and Lilith who were robots and Death who was basically an undead...

A seed of doubt formed in his head as he neared a pedestal holding a globe that looked like the one outside, except this one had a heavy, divine aura surrounding it.

As he stood near the globe, he heard a booming voice drift out of it.

["Kid, if you wish for my Legacy, you need to pass my test."]

["Also, you need to promise to revive me when you become a God."]

["Let’s begin."]

Night listened carefully as the ancient entity spoke.

He felt a powerful pressure try to suppress him, but whenever it got near him, his [Nightmare Domain] would react from within his soul and push the aura away.

He looked at the globe doubtfully. Why would it want to suppress me? To intimidate me, perhaps?

Shaking his head, Night thought, This being is stupid, isn’t it?

For some reason, Night could instinctively sense that this remnant was on its last legs and even performing this simple act of suppression was a huge burden on it.

Why go to such lengths? If it had just properly explained how strong it used to be, I would likely have been intimidated...

Well, everyone had their quirks and Night was not one to judge. But before he proceeded any further, he wished to ask a question.

"How did you manage to summon such powerful friends?" Night asked.

["What?" ]the voice echoed.

It is deaf and dumb, too, Night guessed, and asked a little louder, "HOW DID YOU MANAGE TO SUMMON SO MANY COOL FRIENDSSS!!!"

["Friends?" ]The entity let out a booming, mocking laugh as it continued.

["How did I GET them would be the right question. I went to different realms, universes.and sealed spaces, taking them by force. Some of them I even nurtured myself since they were just eggs."]

Night felt a little uncomfortable at its choice of words. "’Get’ them?"

It stated proudly, ["Yes! I tamed these beasts, and some of them almost killed me each time. If you pass my test and promise to revive me, I shall grant you the skills to do all this yourself. Right now, you seem to have a measly ’Summoner’ Class, which simply cannot compare to my ’Beast Tamer’ Class. And with the personal cultivation art I have developed, you will quickly rise to dominate the cosmos!"]

As for Night, he had already started backing away the moment he heard the word ’tame’.

To him, his summons were his friends; his everything. The word ’taming’ was not even in his dictionary.

["Why do you run?"] the entity demanded, as the glowing globe left its resting place in the center and started floating after the now-sprinting Night.

"I am sorry, but I really don’t think your legacy suits me!" Night yelled back over his shoulder.

Then he heard a dark, menacing voice as the globe teleported directly in front of him. ["DO YOU REALLY THINK YOU HAVE A CHOICE?"]

Night suddenly felt an invisible force choking him as he was violently suspended in the air.

"Le... ee... LE... ave.... m... mEe!" Night choked out as he struggled frantically. In that moment, he swore he could feel Death looming very near him.

["NO NEED FOR TESTS ANYMORE. I WILL GIVE YOU TWO CHOICES NOW: ACCEPT MY LEGACY, OR DIE!"]

...

In the Inheritance Ground

A small body, twisted entirely beyond recognition, flew out of the globe-like symbol.

Thud. It hit the grass hard, but its small size failed to raise any dust.

Looking closely, one could see tears flowing down his blue eyes as they lost their light.

As the life faded, the tiny corpse slowly melted directly into the ground.

There was not even a question of what Night’s final answer had been...

....

In the middle of the foggy region

Night snapped his eyes open and shot up with a loud gasp.

Huff, huff, huff.

Night looked around in panic, only to slowly calm down after seeing the familiar white mist and no glowing symbols around him.

"I died," Night muttered as he shivered uncontrollably.

Not knowing how else to react to the phantom pain, he sat in place for a long time in complete silence, without a single thought in his mind.

After finally gathering himself, he forced a dry joke out of his mouth.

"So... that charred kid didn’t get it after all."

He chuckled darkly when he remembered the other student, who had been in a very similar state as he flew out of that lightning symbol earlier.

Looking up, he sighed and forced himself to stand and start walking again.

He couldn’t just sit here moping all day and cursing his terrible luck.

As for the physical sensation of being tortured to death inside the legacy, he was sadly used to it.

In the facility, it was practically a daily practice, he thought darkly.

Besides, every time the pain went far beyond his natural tolerance, the [Nightmare Domain] always took over making him numb, emotionless, feelingless and.... inhumane.

Because of it, he actually hadn’t suffered as much as one would expect during his execution.

He then noticed he had received a System notification.

[You have failed to receive the Legendary Beast Emperor’s Legacy.]

He absolutely fumed when he read this.

It was not a good feeling to always be on the receiving end of abuse...

He promised himself to return the favor to that ’Beast Emperor’ remnant in the future; whenever he finally gathered enough strength to crush it and he didn’t forget to add Dr.Isaac to this list as well.
