Chapter 28: Medicine-God’s Pill

At Dean’s words, the ghosts around them burst out laughing.

"Sold!"

With Nie Li’s shout, the auction for this item came to an end, and the same procedure was repeated.

Without even glancing at the book, the young man had stowed it in his inventory and handed the money to Amber.

And so, the next auction was about to begin.

What Dean saw was a sword.

It was a long sword, perhaps ninety centimetres in length, that appeared rather simple.

"Lower A-Grade. Whilst this item isn’t particularly powerful, its strength cannot be entirely overlooked; it is, in particular, excellent at conducting mana."

Dean was certain that, even if he were to buy this item, it would remain in his inventory and never see the light of day, simply because he already possessed a better weapon.

Nevertheless, at that very moment, he managed to hear a voice in his mind:

"Master, if I am not being disrespectful, may I ask you to buy me this sword?"

As these voices echoed in his mind, Dean smiled, and before Nie Li had even begun the auction, the young man raised his hand and said, "3,000,000."

The moment he said this, everyone froze, trying to make sense of what they’d heard.

Three million for a Lower A-Grade item?

That was... madness.

"So...sorry, sir, I think you said 300,000," said Nie Li.

Dean, however, rolled his eyes again and repeated, "Three million."

No one dared to enter the bidding.

It could be said that the young man had clearly dominated everyone.

Nie Li had concluded this sale as well, and the procedure was repeated.

"I’ll give you the sword later, friend," Dean had said in his mind.

"Thank you, master," Percival had replied.

In reality, the young man had been waiting for the next auction.

This was the final item to be sold in the current auction.

Amber had produced yet another box out of thin air.

This box was small.

It was the sort of box small enough to hold a ring.

The moment the box was opened, an INCREDIBLE energy radiated outwards.

Dean’s body trembled in the face of this energy.

[An Upper S-Grade consumable item has been found.]

The system didn’t even need to alert Dean to this.

The young man wanted this thing.

When the box opened, a chill spread through the air, and a small cloud of smoke enveloped the area.

Once the cloud of smoke had dissipated, it was clearly visible what was inside the box.

It was a pill.

A single pill.

Dean didn’t know what it was, but he was aware that it was an Upper S-Grade consumable.

He had to have it.

"The last remaining one of three pills personally created by an Alchemist God and sent to his nephew, a Demon-Lordin the Nether-Realm. The Demon-Lord has informed us that he has now surpassed the level required to use this pill and, as it will not affect him, wishes to sell it. The auction will commence at exactly ten million Nether and Aether coins."

When Dean heard these words, he wanted to raise his hand, but the others had beaten him to it:

"11,000,000!"

"12,000,000!!!"

"If you lot aren’t going to raise the bid, don’t even try! I bid 20,000,000"

The auction continued for about a minute, and many ghosts had already been forced to give up on the item.

Nie Li’s eyes were fixed on Dean the whole time.

He watched with great curiosity to see whether the young man would make a move or not.

Dean, however, had finally made the move that was expected of him, but which he had wanted the other ghosts not to make.

"150,000,000!"

Dean was serious this time. He had shouted out this colossal sum.

It was a sum so vast that even a Demon-Lord would think twice before spending it.

Dean, however, had thrown this sum into the auction without a second thought.

But that wasn’t all.

Not knowing when he might next find himself at an auction, Dean wanted to make one final move to complete his task and raised his hand once more.

Whilst Nie Li and the others were trying to make sense of what was happening, the young man simply said, "200,000,000 Nether and Aether coins."

This... had never happened before.

No one had ever seen anyone else outbid themselves before.

It was a completely different kind of nonsense, a completely different kind of madness.

Yet no one could question it.

"What the? Selling... selling... SOLD!" Nie Li had shouted.

Dean had pulled out exactly two hundred one-million banknotes and then held them out towards Nie Li.

Amber had closed the box and, bringing it to Dean, had taken the banknotes from his hand, her hands trembling.

That sort of money could literally turn Amber into a minor Demon-Lord.

One could say it was more money than she could ever spend in her lifetime.

Yet a young man, a mortal who didn’t look to be past his thirties, had been able to spend that sum, and more, without a second thought.

This... was simply beyond comprehension.

The moment Dean took the box, he sent it to his inventory and, contrary to his usual practice, immediately opened it to check the item’s properties:

[Medicine God’s Cultivation Pill (Upper S-Grade)

This consumable pill was crafted on behalf of a Demon-Lord, a member of the Medicine God’s family, who resides in the Nether-Realm.

The pill’s effect is to directly raise the level of First-Class mages by 6 Classes.

The user will be elevated directly to the Seventh-Class level.

Due to the quality of the potion, the user’s damaged, weakened skin, hair follicles, in short, their entire body, will become healthier and stronger.]

The young man took a deep breath as he read the text.

He knew full well what this meant.

’Energies’ possessed ’classes’.

He had previously conducted extensive research to understand what these classes, which he had seen on his profile, meant, and as a result, he had managed to learn a few things.

Those at a low level, that is, those who had only just begun their cultivation, started with First-Class.

This progression continued up to Ninth-Class, after which one would move on to the next stage.

Next came Mid-Level, then High-Level, and finally Upper-Level.

This was the path a person took on the road to immortality, that is, the path to becoming a Demon-Lord or an Angel-Lord.
