Chapter 27: All Is Mine

"SOLD!"

Dean had managed to buy something without even knowing what it was.

This time, the young man had retrieved a one-and-a-half-million banknote from the system and handed it to Nie Li.

Amber, meanwhile, had brought both the Black Gold and the new item to Dean.

Dean had done the same with the Black Gold and the new item.

The new item was a simple piece of armour. It was a thin piece of armour that looked like a low-grade A-Grade item and was designed to protect the arms.

It was clearly something Dean could use.

The young man had looked at the new item to be sold.

"A mask, an item that could set you apart from the rest, allowing others to see your faces shrouded in smoke, and one that ranks at the very top tier of even A-Grade items. We’re starting the auction at exactly 1,000,000."

When Nie Li said these words, he looked at Dean.

"Heh," Dean chuckled to himself.

Nie Li’s greed and eagerness to sell something seemed to have captivated him.

Every pair of eyes was fixed on Dean.

1,000,000 Nether and Aether coins was FAR too much for an A-Grade item.

Still, considering that this item was amongst the very best of its grade, it could be said that it was comparable to even the lowest-tier S-Grade items.

Even so, Dean hadn’t hesitated for a moment.

"1,500,000," the young man had said.

Normally, the other ghosts might have withdrawn from the auction at this price increase, but this item was simply too valuable to pass up.

"1,700,000!" shouted one ghost.

Dean, however, smiled at him, then said, "2,000,000."

The Ghost gritted his teeth and, albeit hesitantly, shouted, "2,300,000!"

When it was Dean’s turn, the young man rolled his eyes and said, "3,000,000."

As soon as he said this, everyone fell silent.

Even Nie Li didn’t know what to say.

Buying an S-Grade item for 3 million coins could have been quite easy.

Still, for someone, let alone a human, to spend such an astronomical sum on a high-level A-Grade item was unheard of.

Even telling this as a joke could have caused the ghosts to look at you as if you were an idiot.

"So--sold!" Nie Li had said suddenly.

He knew the ghosts here had even more money, but to be perfectly honest, no one would pay that much for such an item.

It was, quite simply, impossible.

Or so... everyone had thought up until that moment.

This time, Dean had produced a three-million banknote, and the same procedure was repeated.

However, this time Dean hadn’t added the item to his inventory.

[Superior A-Grade item Mask of Mist has bound to the host.]

The young man had put the mask straight onto his face.

As he did so, although he himself might not have realised it, everyone else had clearly noticed what was happening.

People who had been able to see him just a moment ago could no longer make out his face.

That is to say, they could see him, but each person saw him differently.

One person saw him as an extremely handsome man with golden hair, whilst another saw him as an elderly man in his eighties.

This was the special feature of this mask, called ’Mist’.

It showed everyone a different illusion, a different thought.

"How wonderful," Nie Li had said, unable to contain himself.

He vaguely remembered the young man’s face, but this was something entirely different.

"We’ll move on to the next item!" Nie Li had shouted.

Dean, meanwhile, had been trying to fiddle with the system window in front of him:

[Task 3: You Own It All

Spend at least 3,000,000/2,000,000 Nether and Aether Coins in front of 60 people. Make sure to do this in ONE transaction.

Reward: Star Steel (X-Grade)]

The young man, to be honest, hadn’t expected to receive the reward the system had promised him.

And that’s exactly how it turned out.

Looking at his inventory, Dean could see it clearly.

The young man’s nerves continued to fray.

[Mana Essence x10 (C-Grade)

A potion created by the Light Elves of Álfheimr that serves to strengthen and increase Mana, and can slightly improve its quality.

It can only be consumed by First/Ninth Class mages.]

This item was certainly not useless.

On the contrary, it was exactly what Dean needed right now.

But what about this thing called Star Steel?

Dean had never wanted anything so much in his life.

There was no sure way to explain it.

Still, there was one thing the young man had noticed.

The rank and quality of the reward, or rewards, from the quest were constantly changing.

In that case, was it possible for Dean to suddenly receive an S-Grade item from this system glitch?

It was a great mystery.

[Task 4: Well, What’s Next?

In an auction, increase your own bid by exactly 5,000,000.

Reward: Holy Powder (S-Grade)]

When Dean read this system task, his nerves instantly vanished; the young man had really had to force himself not to burst out laughing.

When his mind returned to reality, he could see the ghosts around him raising the price of the item in the auction one after another.

The price was 7,600,500 at that moment.

When the young man looked at the item, he couldn’t work out what its function was, but he could quite clearly see what the object was.

It was... a book.

It was an old, slightly worn book.

To be honest, Dean was quite intrigued by this item; although the system hadn’t alerted him, a voice inside him had told him he had to buy it.

Dean raised his hand and said straight away, "10,000,000."

At these words, one of the ghosts stood up and shouted, "THERE IS NO WAY A HUMAN HAS THIS MUCH MONEY!!!"

Dean, however, looked at him strangely, sized him up from head to toe, and then said, "It’s not my fault that you’re so fucking poor now, is it?"

That was a bit cruel, and a bit condescending too.

After all, Dean had once been VERY poor himself, and in real life he was still considered poor.

Still, it was exactly as he’d said.

The ghost’s refusal to believe him stemmed from his own poverty.
