Chapter 12: God Killing Spear

[An A-Grade Fortune Thread has been found.]

[An A-Grade Heavenly Treasury Key has been found.]

[An S-Grade Spear of Dawn has been found.]

When Dean looked closely at these three items displayed in glass frames before him, he was left gaping in astonishment.

To put it plainly, the fact that the system had not shown him anything this time only served to confirm his earlier suspicions.

Nevertheless, there was a more pressing matter for him to attend to at that moment.

The young man stood before the glass frame containing a spear slightly shorter than himself and mused, "Magnificent. So this is an S-Grade."

He had tried to hide the fact that the item he’d bought earlier was an S-Grade, yet he was genuinely surprised.

"It takes us at least four days to determine the grade of just one item. You have very impressive eyes, my lord," said the shopkeeper.

The young man paid him no heed.

He was focused solely on the spear standing before him.

With all his heart, he wanted to take that spear and swing it, to feel it pierce through the air.

It was an instinctive desire.

The young man could feel the energies within his body beginning to stir with excitement.

These energies were still at a basic level, so weak they might as well have been non-existent.

Nevertheless, his instincts were urging him to seize that spear.

Of course, there was a reason for this.

Just as there were many different types of power, there had to be many different affinities as well.

For example, Holy Power itself was powerful against ghosts, monsters, demons and similar creatures found within the Nether.

This, of course, applied equally to weapons, armour and similar items possessing an affinity for Holy Power.

The Yin and Yang found in the Nether were themselves stronger against mana, whilst mana was stronger against qi.

In this way, many powers would find themselves in a position of strength or weakness against one another.

This was precisely how the law of powers operated.

The name of the spear standing before Dean was the ’Spear of Dawn’.

So there was little need to explain what the weapon’s affinity was.

Forged within Aether itself, this spear was a weapon that had been lost for a very long time—though low-level individuals, such as the shopkeeper, might not be aware of it.

To tell the truth, this spear might well have been the most valuable thing in the city they were currently in.

When one considered that the city housed temples dedicated to Aether, a Chaos-Born in his own right, and to Zeus himself, it became easier to understand just how valuable the spear was.

The Spear of Dawn.

A weapon so valuable that others might be killed for it.

As for the other two... they weren’t items Dean particularly cared about.

Of course, he would find a place to sell them, and of course, he would find a use for them.

It was just that his focus lay elsewhere.

"I suppose... you liked this spear, my lord?" the shopkeeper had asked, with great curiosity and a slightly awkward tone of voice.

"Like? Are you fucking kidding me?" Dean had muttered.

Exactly one hundred banknotes had instantly materialised in the palm of his hand.

Exactly one hundred banknotes, each consisting of one million Nether and Aether coins.

The young man handed the banknotes directly to the shopkeeper.

"This... My Lord, you’ve paid far too much this time," said the shopkeeper.

Dean really couldn’t care less.

A sum like a hundred million would be refunded to him by the system within a maximum of twenty days anyway.

Why should he bother?

"Shut up and take this money. Then unlock the glass; I want to hold the spear."

Dean had spoken as if giving an order for the first time.

The shopkeeper responded immediately to this command; in the blink of an eye, he shut his mouth and, using the Holy Power within his body, unlocked the glass.

Dean, meanwhile, had slipped his hand through the now-open section of the glass and touched the spear.

[The item has bound to the host.]

The moment Dean touched the spear, the system had bound the item to him.

On top of that, the young man’s entire body had trembled, and his gaze had changed for a split second.

It was a strangely peculiar yet incredibly good feeling for him.

To put it plainly, one could say he hadn’t the faintest idea what was happening.

Nevertheless, whilst he was grappling with these thoughts, or rather, these feelings, the system window displaying the item’s details would open before him in a short while:

[Spear of Dawn (S-Grade)

What is the sky to a god? What is time to an endless being? What are life and death to a being that never feels them?

Well, those would be the normal questions, if this spear didn’t exist.

Do you want to pierce gods? Kill demons and angels? Literally cosmic beings?

This is yours for the taking.

This spear works with Holy Power.

If a person without any Holy Power touches it, their hands will burn.

This spear deals extra damage to unholy beings.

This spear contains the element of ’light’ within it.

The light element will support and enhance the Holy Power Energy within the body.]

The young man had carefully read the system window that had opened before him, completely oblivious to the strange glances the pair standing right next to him were casting his way.

A huge grin spread across his face.

To be perfectly honest, he could not say he had ever been this excited in his life.

Not even when he learnt he could spend his money had such excitement coursed through his body.

This was a completely different feeling.

It went beyond simply having achieved something.

Moreover, in Dean’s eyes, it had now revealed a definite possibility.

He’d managed to secure something by paying a high price.

So... what exactly could there be that he couldn’t buy?
