Chapter 13: Getting Lost
[Both items have been bound to the host.]
The young man had bound the Heavenly Treasury Key and Fortune Threads to himself in a short space of time and had paid for them.
The Heavenly Treasury Key was indeed a strange item.
One could say it was shrouded in mystery.
Even its description read: ’The key to a treasure trove within the Aether.’
However, the real focus was on the other item.
The item called ’Fortune Threads’ was one that showed Dean what level of luck a person possessed, whether their luck could be influenced for better or worse, and even whether something bad would befall them in the near future.
It would have been more accurate to call this item ’Fate Threads’ rather than ’Fortune Threads’.
Still, that was none of Dean’s business.
The young man had stowed both items in his inventory, whilst the ’Spear of Dawn’ had instinctively vanished, just as the ’Moon’s Rope’ had.
Even so, Dean now felt more at ease.
These two items lay deep within his soul.
The young man had nothing left to do today.
Well, he could still explore a few more places, but to be perfectly honest, the idea that the dungeon’s quest was merely this... didn’t make much sense to him.
It really didn’t make sense that a game called Cosmic Terror would leave him all alone in Heaven itself without causing any trouble.
In fact, Dean knew this himself.
The game and the quests within it never lied.
At least, that’s what was written on the forum.
It was simply Dean’s desire to do something.
And that desire would open the door to a rather good opportunity for him.
When the day was over, the young man had gone to the room arranged for him to stay in and had had a good night’s sleep.
After sleeping for nearly twelve hours, he’d woken up, had a nice shower and met up with Mirael.
Nothing particularly important had happened today.
The second day had flown by, whilst the third day was the day it all began.
Dean had left his room to meet Mirael once more.
Even so, he’d noticed in an instant that the inn where he was staying was in a state of happy chaos.
When the young man finally found Mirael, he saw that this most beautiful of angels shared the same expression, that same happy look.
With that, his curiosity had now reached its peak.
"Good morning, my lord."
Mirael had greeted him the moment she saw him.
"What’s going on, Mirael?" Dean had asked, full of curiosity.
"Ah... I didn’t tell you, did I? Today marks the start of the Colosseum tournament."
At Mirael’s reply, Dean turned to her.
The young man’s eyebrows twitched slightly, and he asked, "The Colosseum?"
"Yes, sir. It is a tradition created by Nemesis, one of the Superior-level Goddesses. She is a Chaos-Born who loves justice, fate and vengeance. Therefore, she created a place where all those who share her sentiments can fight," replied Mirael.
Dean shook his head at these words and muttered, "Alright, I really want to watch this."
"Of course, sir. It will start in about an hour and end tomorrow evening."
Mirael had just said this when, shortly afterwards, a horse-drawn carriage pulled up in front of the inn.
Still, these horses... were a little different.
They were horses with wings and horns.
"Unicorns?" Dean had asked.
"Alicorns, my lord," Mirael had replied.
Dean had climbed into the horse-drawn carriage without a second thought.
Shortly afterwards, the carriage set off, and Dean pulled back the curtain on the window to begin looking out.
They really were flying.
The young man had smiled and muttered, "Bloody hell..."
The journey wouldn’t take very long.
The journey, which would have taken four hours on foot, was covered in barely thirty minutes; the pair had left the horse-drawn carriage behind in no time.
Dean had been able to see it from a distance, even whilst in the air through the window, but they had indeed arrived at a colosseum.
There were many people around, and consequently a great deal of shouting.
Most people were being prevented from entering.
Dean, however, was curious and, to be honest, a little worried.
"Are you sure we can get in?" the young man had asked.
Mirael immediately turned to Dean and, smiling, said, "There is nowhere in this city I cannot get you into, my lord. You need only give the order."
Dean pursed his lips and muttered, "Find the best vantage point you can, then."
Mirael set off straight away to carry out this order, whilst Dean began to wait.
The young man was clearly starting to feel uncomfortable around the people nearby.
Perhaps it was because he’d been staying for the past two days in what might be called the ’high society’ district, where the nobles resided, but this place was a bit too chaotic.
Dean didn’t know, though.
Not everyone here was from heaven.
The Colosseum operated a little differently.
According to Nemesis, anyone could enter the Colosseum, regardless of their gender, beliefs, powers or where they came from.
Dean, however, had managed to catch the timing of this ’main’ Colosseum event, which took place only once a year.
This event featured demons, angels and ghosts.
In fact, although it was VERY rare, it might even be possible to see Nemesis’s physical form with the naked eye.
There was no way this place could not be chaotic.
Mirael had returned shortly afterwards and said the following:
"The structure inside, the place I’m taking you to, is covered in ancient spells. Spells created by the Supreme Goddess herself. Please follow my footsteps exactly; otherwise, even I won’t know where you’ll be teleported to."
It was the first time Dean had ever seen Mirael look so serious.
This was rather worrying.
The young man indicated he understood, and so they entered the Colosseum.
They climbed flight after flight of stairs. The whole place was like a labyrinth.
Yet, perhaps because his luck had run out, or perhaps because he’d foolishly made a mistake whilst observing his surroundings... Dean had indeed taken a wrong step.
Instantly, a white light engulfed him, and the young man opened his eyes in a different place.
When he stood up, he realised he was still inside the Colosseum. The architecture was very similar.
Yet the voice he was about to hear would tell him he was in a place where he shouldn’t be.
"Now, who could you be?"
