Chapter 36: No Misunderstanding
Liam looked at the book he had used to solve the problem Silvia gave him. He had successfully used the correct method and even found another way to solve it.
However, what he saw now was an A. It should have been an A+. It turned out there was a small mistake in his math calculation, causing Silvia to deduct a few points.
"You do have unique and intuitive thinking, Liam. However, you still seem lacking in calculations. Maybe this is because you are not used to practicing counting or mental math, right?" Silvia said, analyzing Liam’s mistakes and what needed to be improved.
Liam smiled faintly. Even though he made a small mistake, he was quite satisfied. Because this could already be considered an improvement.
"Yeah, thank you, Silvia. For the advice." Liam nodded.
Then, the sound of a phone ringing came from the table.
Bzzztt.
Liam immediately knew it was his phone. He quickly picked up the phone that was near his physics material book and turned on the screen.
[Miria has sent you a message]
Liam tapped the notification and was presented with Miria’s fresh messages.
[Liam]
[Are you still with your study group?]
[I’m waiting in front of the school gate. I just finished the student council meeting.]
Liam read the messages and typed back.
[Still here]
[But it looks like I’ll leave first now. You’re still waiting in front of the school gate, right?]
A UI showing Miria typing appeared.
[Yes, no need to rush]
Liam saw that and decided to turn off his phone. He immediately packed his books and put them into his bag.
"Where are you going, Liam?" Darren asked.
Liam stood up, carrying his bag.
"Yeah, I’ll go first. Miria is waiting in front of the school gate." Liam said, which immediately made Darren show a very crooked smile as if saying "oh... your childhood friend, eh."
Then, after Liam said that, the sound of a book being closed with slightly excessive force was heard.
They all turned their heads and saw Silvia smiling politely as she said,
"If that’s the case, let’s end the study group for today. Thank you everyone for wanting to study." She said in a soft voice with a warm smile.
"Ah, no. We should be the ones thanking you, Silvia." Megy quickly replied.
Liam saw that and finally said, "See you guys tomorrow."
Without looking back, Liam left the library. Who knew if Silvia would invite him to walk to the school gate together again, which would make Miria even angrier and more jealous.
That would be very troublesome.
So he left first and walked quickly toward the school gate. There, he saw the silhouette of a girl. The closer he got, the clearer her appearance became.
A girl in a white school uniform, wrapped in a dark blue student council blazer that matched perfectly with her dark blue hair.
The already dark sky with its stars seemed to illuminate the girl’s hair. Making her blue hair reflect the beauty of the night sky.
As if sensing Liam’s presence, Miria’s eyes immediately scanned the school field and locked onto him.
Miria approached Liam. Her hair fluttered behind her. And she said,
"Let’s go." Reaching out to naturally straighten his collar.
Liam stood stiffly, letting her do so.
Liam looked behind him. There, Darren and Megy were walking together. A few meters ahead of them, Silvia was walking quickly with her head lowered.
From the darkness of the road and the dark school library field, their eyes met for a moment. Then Silvia moved further away until she reached a taxi that she had probably called earlier.
The taxi drove away.
Liam withdrew his gaze. His mind was a mess.
Remembering all the conversation that happened at the cafeteria table earlier. A conversation that could not really be called a conversation but could be said to be a quarrel.
What Miria said to Silvia... might have sounded like she was praising Silvia, but anyone could tell the meaning behind every word she spoke.
"What are you thinking about?" Miria asked, interrupting Liam’s thoughts.
"Nothing." Liam shook his head.
Miria smiled and decided not to press further.
The two of them walked side by side on the road under the beautiful moonlight.
"My driver parked the car a bit far from here because I told him to buy some snacks at the supermarket." Miria said, explaining why they had to walk side by side.
Actually, she did it on purpose. Miria considered this as payback. She also wanted to experience walking side by side with Liam.
Liam nodded.
Sometimes their hands would touch. The back of Miria’s hand would lightly brush against the back of his. But she quickly pulled her hand back out of embarrassment.
The streetlights made their shadows stretch long, joining them on the ground.
After walking for a while, Miria spoke in a soft voice similar to Silvia’s. "Silvia... is a good girl."
Liam was quite surprised for a moment. His eyes widened slightly.
"The way you spoke to her earlier... she might misunderstand you." Liam could not help but say that.
"Misunderstand what?" Miria walked faster, then turned around to face him, stopping their walk.
Her eyes sparkled under the streetlights.
"Misunderstand that you... have a problem with her."
Miria let out a small giggle. Her voice was very light.
"I don’t have any problem with her." Miria said. "I was only stating facts."
She moved closer to Liam. Her eyes stared deeply into his, and her index finger touched Liam’s chest.
"We will soon enter senior year. All thoughts that should not be there must be eliminated because they will only hinder someone’s development. I am doing this for her own good, and for your own good. Liam."
Liam opened his mouth but did not know what to say.
He then remembered the faint blush on Silvia’s face when she said,
"That is also his strength."
And when Silvia said, "His way of understanding problems is very unique."
Somewhere in his heart, a familiar feeling began to stir slightly.
Seeing Liam silent like that made Miria feel very uncomfortable and annoyed. She knew that someone was trying to break into Liam’s mind.
"Come on, my mom must be waiting now. She said she really misses talking to you." Miria said, pulling Liam’s hand so they could walk faster.
