Chapter 73: Chapter 73 Track you down
The issue he’d been avoiding had finally caught up with him.
He was shamelessly pursuing a woman who’s already taken, and she was not even interested in him. Knowing he was the other man and yet being repeatedly rejected by her, if that wasn’t being pathetic, then what was?
Stephan felt even more agitated. He clenched his jaw and was about to drive off.
But then he saw the soft, cute little bunny in the passenger seat, staring at him with pleading eyes.
It was exactly like the way Alana looked at him, those beautiful, clear, and pitiful eyes.
As if by some strange impulse, Stephan picked up the little white rabbit again.
Looking at the little white rabbit’s pleading expression, he inexplicably imagined Alana’s bright, sparkling eyes, gazing at him with the same pleading look. It was truly, a love-hate relationship!
Stephan couldn’t resist pinching the little white rabbit’s jet-black nose, imagining that he was pinching Alana’s delicate, dainty little nose right then and there.
“You’ve got me bad.”
“Alana, listen to me!”
“That boyfriend of yours, he doesn’t care about you at all. He’s trash, a good-for-nothing!”
“When you’re in danger, he’s not by your side. When you’re sick, he’s not by your side. He’s completely useless! He doesn’t care about you, and he doesn’t deserve you. Break up with him right now, and let
me take his place! I don’t want to be some male mistress if that’s even a thing, you hear me?”
“Do you get it, hmm?”
The man pinched the little white rabbit’s nose and tugged on its long ears, as if trying to wake it up.
“Will you agree?”
“If you don’t agree, I’ll yank your ears!”
“I’ll spank your bottom!”
The little white rabbit, of course, couldn’t respond, but just looked at him with an adorable, dazed expression.
As if looking at a fool.
Finally, his senses returned, and he couldn’t help but pinch the aching spot between his eyebrows. “I really am crazy.”
He’d actually mistaken a stuffed white rabbit for Alana and tried to persuade her to leave her boyfriend.
If that isn’t being crazy, what is?
Stephan sat in the car for a while.
Finally, he picked up the little white rabbit, opened the car door, and got out.
Just as he’d said, he really was at a loss when it came to that woman, Alana. Stephan took the elevator to Alana’s doorstep and knocked.
No response.
He knocked again.
Still no answer.
Stephan sighed.
He knew she didn’t like him, and if she found out it was him knocking, she definitely wouldn’t open the door.
So he deliberately didn’t speak, just knocked. But he’d been knocking for so long, and there was still no response from inside. That was strange.
So, that woman wasn’t home.
Then where is she?
Stephan furrowed his brows, but he couldn’t suppress the deep sense of worry welling up inside him.
It was already getting so late. If she wasn’t home, where could she be?
***********
Meanwhile.
Alana had already bonded with Luca’s two pets.
Both pets adored her and were very affectionate toward her.
At first she had been nervous, but now she had gradually relaxed and could play and roughhouse with them.
Now that she’d established a bond with them, taking care of them wouldn’t be a problem. Besides, Luca had already explained most of the care details to her, and she had taken them all to heart.
Just in case she forgot anything, she’d also jotted it down in her phone’s notes.
Alana glanced at the time on her phone, it was already past nine o’clock.
She put down the cat teaser, stood up, and said, “Luca, it’s getting late. I’ll head home now.”
Luca felt as though he had already fallen for Alana.
The scene of her gently playing with the cat and dog was beautiful, playful, bright and warm.
It was just like a beautiful painting, so lovely that one couldn’t help but stop and admire it.
He admitted that he’d been staring at Alana a bit too intently just now. Now that he heard she was leaving, he felt an intense sense of reluctance.
“Have you eaten yet? Would you like to grab a bite to eat, and then I’ll drive you home?”
Alana smiled and politely declined, “No, thank you.”
Luca felt disappointed, but settled for the next best option. “Then I’ll just drive you
home.”
She fell silent for a moment.
For some reason, Stephan’s deep, firm words suddenly came to mind.
*Keep your distance from him.*
Alana pursed her lips but still refused. “Never mind, I won’t trouble you. It’s quite a distance from here to where I live, so I’ll just take a taxi back.”
Luca couldn’t help but say, “But it’s getting late. It might not be safe for you to take a taxi home.”
Alana paused, realizing he had a point.
She’d recently heard about quite a few drivers harassing female passengers late at night.
Besides, the middle-aged driver of the car she’d just ridden in had also made a few inappropriate remarks to her.
Although it was just verbal harassment, it still made her feel very uncomfortable.
After a moment’s hesitation, she decided to compromise for her own safety. “Well, thank you for your help.”
Luca’s lips curled into a smile. “It’s no trouble at all, don’t mention it.” Luca went to drive his car out and opened the passenger door for her.
Alana said thank you, got in, closed the door, and fastened her seatbelt.
Luca was about to set the navigation. “Where do you live? It’s called...”
Alana replied, “Morzi Community.”
“Alright, Morzi Community.”
Luca typed “Morzi Community” into the navigation system, confirmed the exact location, and then pulled away.
Alana couldn’t help but recall that when Stephan had driven her home for the second time, she had assumed he didn’t know where she lived.
But it turned out he had actually remembered it.
He could take her home without even using the navigation.
It was clear he had a pretty good memory.
He remembered the route perfectly, even though they’d only driven it once.
Strange?
Why had she been thinking about him so often today?
Alana decisively shook her head, pushing aside the jumbled thoughts in her mind.
Suddenly, her phone vibrated.
She picked it up and saw it was a WhatsApp message.
Alana tapped to open it, it was from Stephan.
Stephan: Where are you? If you don’t reply soon, I’m calling you and tracking you down!
Alana’s fingers trembled slightly.
The tone in his message was forceful and domineering, as if he were about to call her the very next second to demand an explanation.
But why was he suddenly messaging her to ask where she was?
Could it be... that he’d gone to her place again?
Alana clenched her teeth and immediately typed back.
Alana: Where are you right now?
When Stephan saw that Alana had replied, he stopped the call he was about to make. Good. The fact that she could reply and ask where he was meant she was okay.
His slender fingers twitched slightly. He decided not to hide it from her.
Stephan: At your place.
