Chapter 70: Chapter 70 Stay away from me

After sending it, she didn’t bother to check if he’d replied or what he’d said; she simply set her phone aside and went back to work.

Out of sight, out of mind!

Stephan was in his office, recalling how many employees had stared at his lips when he arrived at the office that morning, each with a look of curiosity on their faces. On a whim, he snapped a selfie and sent it to Alana.

So she could fully appreciate the masterpiece she’d created.

And to tease her a little while he was at it.

Seeing her reply, a message that read she wasn’t responsible followed by three exclamation points, he couldn’t help but chuckle softly.

He could almost picture her cheeks puffed out in a huff as she typed the message, her face full of indignation.

How adorable was she?

His slender fingers tapped the screen, and he replied.

Stephan. You ungrateful woman. It doesn’t matter if you’re responsible or not, I’ve already captured the evidence. You can’t escape.

Just then, Vance walked in carrying a stack of documents. “President, you mentioned earlier that you wanted to hold an impromptu morning meeting. I’ve already notified all the company executives; they’ve arrived in the conference room.”

“Mm, got it. I’ll be right there.”

Stephan rose from his chair with a neutral expression.

Vance eyed him as he thought to himself.

‘What’s this about a last-minute morning meeting? Our CEO couldn’t possibly have any ulterior motives, he’s just trying to secretly show off the bite mark on his lip. After all, not everyone gets the chance to flaunt such a glorious mark.’

Vance shook his head. His boss was going crazy.

Stephan arrived at the conference room.

Sure enough, the senior executives were all staring intently at his lips.

Their eyes were brimming with curiosity and gossip.

Stephan appeared calm and composed, his demeanor as cool and misty as ever.

But inside, he was secretly delighted.

He took his seat at the head of the conference table without haste, leaning lazily back in his chair with his legs crossed.

“Let the meeting begin.”

***********

After about an hour, the tedious meeting came to an end.

As Stephan walked out of the conference room, he heard the senior executives whispering behind him.

“Did you notice? The CEO has a scab on his lip.”

“I noticed. The CEO kept touching that scab with his hand during the meeting, it was impossible not to notice.”

“Yeah, yeah, it’s so obvious. I just wonder how he got it.”

“It’s on his lip. Could it be...did his girlfriend bite him?”

“The CEO has a girlfriend? Is that true?! Wasn’t he the type who always stayed away from women?”

“I’m not sure about that, but that scab on his lip, it couldn’t have been caused by a cat or a dog, can it? It’s clearly from a human bite!”

“It’s either a woman or a man!”

“But the CEO doesn’t really have any women around him, and he doesn’t seem to be interested in the opposite sex at all. I’m starting to suspect it was a man who bit him.”

Stephan blinked.

He was straight!

He had pretty much confirmed it with Alana!

“Right, right, right! It must have been a guy who bit him!”

“It might even be Assistant Vance who bit him, since the CEO is practically glued to Assistant Vance every day. Hehe, it looks like there’s something going on between the two of them!” Vance, trailing behind Stephan almost collapsed in shock.

A wave of embarrassment washed over him.

A sense of exhaustion, as if he’d been caught in the crossfire without even trying.

Stephan furrowed his brow slightly, his handsome face darkening.

He shot Vance a glance, his tone slightly stern. “From now on, stay away from me. Don’t stick to me like glue every day.”

Vance gasped.

This wasn’t his fault!

Serving the emperor was like serving a tiger, who would want to cling to you, you arrogant man!

If it weren’t for work matters, requiring Vance to report to him every single moment, he’d never have gotten stuck with the CEO in the first place!

And then there was this morning, the CEO was the one who literally called him any time of the day or night without a care if he had his own personal life.

This morning, he was still asleep. Stephan’s call had woken him up to go run some errands.

So who was clinging to who here?!

********

Stephan returned to his office and sat down in his chair.

The first thing he did was pull out his phone and glance at his chat history with Alana. A soft snort escaped from the man’s nostrils.

Still no reply after all this time?

His fingers twitched, as if to send another message. But on second thought, he decided against it.

A man should maintain his composure and keep a cool, aloof demeanor.

Just then, his phone rang.

It was Gary calling.

Stephan answered the call, his long, slender fingers tapping lightly on the tabletop, while the black Patek Philippe watch on his wrist glistened in the light.

“What’s up?”

Gary asked with a laugh, “Bro, it’s my birthday today. I’m throwing a party at Spring Banquet tonight. Want to come?”

Stephan was about to say no, but then he thought better of it. He raised his hand and gently stroked the scab on his lip, raising his thick eyebrows slightly. “What time exactly?”

“Around eight tonight.”

“Alright.”

*********

It was time to clock out.

Carla wanted to ask Alana to go out for dinner, and maybe do some shopping and catch a movie while they were at it.

She said there was a particularly good movie out recently, an art-house romance with handsome men and beautiful women.

Seeing how Carla was raving about the movie, describing it in far greater detail and with more enthusiasm than the promotional materials.

She also had two movie discount coupons; if they bought tickets during this time slot, they could get them for half price.

Alana felt helpless and politely declined the invitation.

“Sorry, find someone else to go with. I have plans later.”

Carla immediately sensed a scoop and asked with a piercing gaze.

“A date? With whom? A guy or a girl?!”

Alana sighed, “A guy, but just a regular friend. And it’s not a date.”

Carla blinked. “It’s not that super-hot guy who gave you a phone last time, is it?”

Alana couldn’t help but picture Stephan’s cool yet slightly brooding face. She bit her lip.

“It’s not him.”

Carla stared at Alana’s pretty face, her curiosity piqued even more. “If it’s not him,

then why are you blushing?”

Alana shot Carla a playful glare. “Stop teasing me. I’m leaving now.” She picked up her handbag, said goodbye to Carla, and left first.

Ford Estate was a bit far from the office, so she decided to take a taxi there. As she got into the car, she sent a message to Luca.

She told him she was already on her way.

Luca quickly replied with an “OK.”

About half an hour later, she arrived at the entrance.

Because of the gate security, the taxi couldn’t drive in, so the driver dropped Alana off at the entrance to the Estate.
