Chapter 180: Chapter 180 Still has me
If Alana isn’t doing well, she has only herself to blame, after all, her own parents abandoned her.
That was just how it was for children without parents to love them, the relatives had the belief that those kind of children were doomed to a life of misery.
So they were convinced that Alana was destined to struggle for the rest of her life.
If she were to start living a good life, that would be the real surprise.
Miranda couldn’t help but ask, “Mom, why don’t you ask Alana what her boyfriend does for a living, if his family is wealthy, and if they own a house or anything like that!”
Grandma thought about it and realized he was right, she had the chance to ask, so why hadn’t she?
All this guessing back and forth was pretty silly.
She really was getting old, her brain just wasn’t working right anymore.
So, she picked up her phone and sent Alana a voice message.
She didn’t know how to type, but she knew how to send voice messages.
“Lana, tell me, what does your boyfriend do for a living? How much does he make a month? Does he own a house?”
Alana received the voice message from her grandmother and tapped to play it. When she heard the content, she blinked.
“Um, Stephan, my grandma wants to ask you a few questions. Would you mind answering them?”
Stephan had just set his wallpaper when he heard this. He glanced at her. “What
kind of questions?”
Alana handed him her phone. “Here.”
Stephan took her phone, skimmed through it, and chuckled softly.
“About my salary? About my house?”
Alana bit her lip, speaking nervously, “Um, these are pretty sensitive topics. If you
can’t answer them, it’s fine.”
If he didn’t want to talk about it, she would respect his decision and wouldn’t push him.
Stephan looked at her with an amused expression. “Do you want to know?”
Alana blinked and replied honestly, “I... of course I do. As your girlfriend, shouldn’t I be allowed to know how much you make each month?”
“That’s true.”
Alana’s curiosity was instantly piqued. “So how much do you actually make each
month?”
“I don’t get a salary.”
“Huh?” Alana was stunned. “You go to work every day, right? And you don’t even get paid? Doesn’t that mean you’re working for nothing?”
Stephan raised an eyebrow. “Yeah, because I’m the one paying everyone else.”
Alana blinked.
Was he joking right now.
She pouted. “Forget it, I won’t ask you anymore. You’d better focus on figuring out how to answer my grandmother’s questions properly.”
Stephan curved his lips. “Of course I can. When my girlfriend’s Grandma interrogate me, I’ll have to be fully alert and sincere in my response.”
Alana couldn’t help but smile. “Well then, you handle it yourself. Just be nice to her, don’t go too overboard.”
Stephan raised an eyebrow. “Don’t go too far, huh?”
Fine!
He promised to keep it in check, nothing outrageous!
Stephan looked down and typed out his reply.
[Grandma, my boyfriend currently runs a company. His monthly salary is just a few
hundred million...not a lot, but enough to get by. He owns a few properties, all private apartments.]
He was actually a billionaire but his girlfriend said not to go too far.
[Grandma, rest assured. With him by my side, I’ll live a good life every day, no worries about food or clothing, and my happiness meter is maxed out.]
The man shamelessly hit send.
Hmm, he’d have to toot his own horn and sell himself.
Who knows, maybe Grandma will see this reply and obediently hand her granddaughter over to him herself.
Alana leaned in curiously. “What did you reply?”
Stephan handed her the phone, raising an eyebrow. “See? My reply isn’t too far off, is
it? Are you satisfied?”
When Alana saw the content of his reply, she nearly fainted.
She glared at him. “You, you, you...”
Stephan looked at her amusedly. “What about me?”
Alana couldn’t help but jab her finger hard into his chest. “A salary of hundreds of
millions a month, isn’t that a lot?! How many houses do you own, isn’t this one of the house in an estate you’re currently renting? I really didn’t realize you could lie without even thinking it through, you really...!”
She knew he was rich, but no matter how rich he was, it couldn’t be that outrageous,
could it?!
But here he was, talking as if he owned the world.
Stephan chuckled softly, reaching up to pinch her delicate cheek affectionately. “These days, who needs a script to brag? It just comes out the moment you open your
mouth.”
Alana stared at him in disbelief. While shocked by the man’s brazen audacity, she
couldn’t help but think to herself, “He really is just bragging!”
A monthly salary of hundreds of millions, several private apartments, that was just
ridiculous!
Does he even know that a single apartment building costs millions? Alana desperately wanted to edit the message, but in her flustered haste, she accidentally deleted it only from her end.
She panicked. “Oh no, I accidentally deleted the messages you sent. You told such a huge lie to Grandma, how are we going to cover for this when we actually meet her?”
Stephan ruffled the girl’s hair, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth. “We’ll just have to figure it out as we go. It’s my lie, you don’t need to worry about it.”
Alana was getting anxious, her cheeks puffed out in frustration, her almond-shaped eyes wide with indignation. “If we can’t cover it up and Grandma ends up disliking you, don’t say I didn’t warn you!”
Stephan looked at her amusedly. “So? Are you that afraid your grandmother will reject me?”
Stephan cupped the girl’s exquisitely pretty face, his gaze fixed on her as he asked with a smirk, “Sweetheart, just how much do you care about me that you’re so worried your family will reject me?”
A blush spread across Alana’s cheeks.
Seriously, this naughty man, he’s asking a question he already knows the answer to!
“It’s not even on the horizon yet. Don’t get your hopes up.”
Stephan leaned down and brushed his nose against her pert little nose, a gesture
that was both intimate and tantalizing.
“I’ll let my imagination run wild. My girlfriend cares about me, she cares a lot, a whole lot.”
Alana blushed and was about to say something, but the man had already leaned
down to silence her with a kiss...
*******
Meanwhile, Grandma, along with her aunt and Miranda, the three of them stared at the message Stephan had sent, their mouths agape in shock. That much money? That many houses?!
They’d never seen that much in their entire lives!
Miranda said on impulse, “It’s a scam! This guy must be a scammer!”
The aunt nodded. “Exactly. How could Lana possibly have found such a rich man? He must be a scammer, just some scumbag who took advantage of her naivety to play with her emotions!”
“What’s this about running a company, making hundreds of millions a month, and owning several private apartments? He’s just full of hot air, he doesn’t have anything.”
“Either this guy is a con artist, or your dear granddaughter is lying to you. Those are the only two possibilities!”
Grandma frowned. “What do you mean? Are you saying my granddaughter isn’t good enough for such a rich and handsome man?”
Miranda said, “Mom, it’s not that we don’t believe that, but be realistic, someone like Alana can never land a man like that, she’s just someone abandoned by her parents, with no status or standing. How could a rich man possibly take a liking to her? Even if he did take a liking to her, it’d only be for her looks, to use and dump her, he’d never actually marry her!”
Auntie nodded in agreement from the side, “Exactly! Rich people only look for matches of equal standing. What right does your granddaughter have to be considered a match for anyone?!”
Grandma was furious. “Two of you, shut up! None of you can stand to see my granddaughter do well! Let me tell you this: even if Lana’s father doesn’t love her and her mother doesn’t care about her, so what? She still has me, her grandmother!”
