Chapter 120: Chapter 120 Blind fool
Stephan raised his cold, dark eyes and asked calmly, “Vance, when a man gives a woman roses, eleven of them, no less, what does that signify?”
Vance immediately stood up straight and said, “President, I know exactly what this means. It clearly represents a man’s wholehearted love for a woman!”
Wholehearted love?
Stephan’s gaze grew even colder.
Which blind fool dared to compete with him for his woman?
Besides, he hadn’t even sent Alana flowers yet, where did this show-off come from, daring to steal his thunder?!
He clenched his phone, his eyes smoldering with suppressed rage.
“Get to a flower shop right now and order ninety-nine roses!”
Vance shuddered under the man’s furious glare and quickly replied, “Yes, sir. Right away.”
Serving the boss was like walking on eggshells!
One moment the sky was clear, and the next, dark clouds rolled in, accompanied by thunder and lightning.
This wasn’t a place to linger, he’d better make a run for it.
Stephan played along for now and replied to her message.
Alana had been busy all morning when she finally saw the message Stephan had sent her.
Stephan:[Okay, I’ll do as you say. I won’t send flowers to your office again.]
[When do you get off work today? I’ll come pick you up.]
Alana’s cheeks flushed. She hadn’t even agreed to be his girlfriend yet, so why was he acting as if they were already a normal couple?
Picking her up after work, too.
She felt it was too much for now.
Alana: [You don’t have to bother.]
He replied quickly.
Stephan: [It’s no bother. Picking up my girlfriend from work is my duty.]
Alana bit her lip, her face flushing even more.
“Girlfriend” this and “girlfriend” that, he said it so naturally.
She hadn’t even agreed to be his girlfriend yet, but he was already acting like her boyfriend.
Fine, she thought. She’d treat this as a test and let him pick her up.
Alana: [I get off work at 5:30 p.m.]
Stephan: [Okay, wait for me.]
Alana’s lips curled into a smile, and she was just about to put her phone down.
But then she suddenly remembered something and couldn’t help but add a request.
Alana:[Um, I don’t want to draw too much attention. When you get here, park a little farther away, don’t park right at the company entrance.]
She remembered the car he drove, it was no ordinary vehicle.
If he parked right in front of her office and she got in so brazenly, people might see them and start gossiping again.
She certainly didn’t want to live her life under constant scrutiny.
But when Stephan saw Alana’s message, he couldn’t help but misinterpret it.
Sure enough, not being the official boyfriend was a real drag. He was just trying to be nice by picking her up after work, but he had to do it on the sly.
If he were her official boyfriend, he could just go straight to her office, wrap his arm around her waist, and kiss, hug, and lift her up, right?
Just thinking about it felt pretty good.
But the revolution wasn’t over yet; he still had work to do.
Stephan replied leisurely.
Stephan: [Okay, I’ll listen to my girlfriend.]
Alana’s ears burned uncontrollably.
Good boy!
He’d already taken the initiative to claim her as his girlfriend.
But why did her heart feel so sweetened?
Could this be...the feeling of falling in love?
***********
5:30 p.m.
Alana clocked out on time.
A few colleagues from the project department were staying late and urged her to join them, saying they’d have company.
Alana declined.
If they wanted to grind, let them grind.
As an intern, she was stuck doing menial, tedious tasks in the back corners of the office. Overtime wasn’t even paid, what was the point of grinding with them?
She’d make more money from her part-time job.
Oh, right.
She wasn’t sure if she should go to Luca’s place later to walk his two pets.
After all, with what happened yesterday, she didn’t have the face to see him.
She hoped Luca wouldn’t be there when she arrived, to avoid any awkwardness.
Alana hurried downstairs, clutching the roses Stephan had given her.
She’d placed the roses in a vase a colleague had given her, filled it with water, and they hadn’t wilted at all, in fact, they looked even more vibrant.
Holding the flowers, she felt great and couldn’t put them down.
Just then, she received a message from Stephan.
Stephan:[I’m here.]
Alana had just stepped out of the office when she glanced around and spotted a black Bentley parked nearby.
Taking advantage of the fact that no one was paying attention, she quickly jogged over, opened the door, and got in.
Stephan caught a glimpse of her out of the corner of his eye, she looked furtive and guilty, and chuckled softly.
“What’s the matter? Are you that afraid people will find out about our relationship?”
For the first time, he felt utterly inadequate in her presence.
Alana turned to glance at him and whispered an explanation, “I just wanted to keep a low profile.”
Stephan thought to himself, there was no way to keep a low profile when she was with him. Suddenly, his gaze paused on the bouquet of roses Alana was holding in her arms.
Up close, the bouquet of roses looked even more delicate and vibrant.
They bloomed brazenly right in front of him, as if they were being outrageously bold.
His gaze gradually grew cold.
Alana noticed his expression, her lips curving into a faint smile as she said again,
“Um...thank you for the flowers. They’re really beautiful.”
Stephan raised his deep, dark eyes. “Do you like flowers?”
She nodded honestly. “I do.”
There wasn’t a girl in this world who didn’t like beautiful flowers.
Beautiful flowers possess a charm that heals the heart.
Just a glance, or a whiff of their fragrance, was enough to lift one’s spirits.
Stephan didn’t speak. Instead, he shifted his body, leaned into the backseat, and stretched out his long arm.
Instantly, as if by magic, a larger, even more beautiful bouquet of roses appeared before Alana. With one bouquet already in her arms, she watched as the man handed her another, and in an instant, she was completely surrounded by flowers.
Her almond-shaped eyes widened in surprise. “This... this...”
Taking advantage of her distraction, Stephan snatched the bouquet from her arms and replaced it with the one he’d bought.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Alana held the massive bouquet of roses. With her dazed yet beautiful face, she looked slightly petite and helpless.
Stephan stared intently at her, his eyes deep and intense. “Do you like this bigger bouquet?”
Surrounded by so many flowers, Alana was already intoxicated by their fragrance. She nodded instinctively. “I... I like it...”
Stephan curved his lips into a smile and asked softly, “So which do you like better, the bouquet in your arms, or the one in my hand?”
Alana’s beautiful eyes fluttered. Was there a difference?
Weren’t they both gifts from him?
So she replied, “I like them both.”
Stephan spoke up, “No, you have to choose one.”
Alana took a closer look at the larger bouquet of roses in her arms, the blooms were fuller and more vibrant.
They seemed to have been picked only recently; the petals still bore crystal-clear droplets of water.
The air was filled with a delightful fragrance.
So, after hesitating for less than three seconds, she answered.
“This one, the bigger one.”
“Alright, then we’re getting rid of this one.”
Before Alana could react, the man suddenly rolled down the car window and, without hesitation, tossed the bouquet he was holding into the trash can outside the window.
Alana gasped, “No!”
“Why did you throw the flowers away?!”
She said she preferred the bigger bouquet, but she never said she didn’t like the smaller one!
Stephan had already tossed the flowers into the trash can, and was finally feeling a sense of satisfaction.
Seeing her holding flowers given to her by another man had made him feel incredibly frustrated.
