Chapter 142: CH. 142 | Sect Management

After their business at the sect’s front gate was done, Lin Tian and the others flew off, heading back to the sect’s main hall.

These days, it was way more grand and massive than before, big enough to hold everyone whenever Lin Tian needed to call them all together.

He arrived with Wu Yue and Cao Ying at his side. Lin Tian stepped into the main hall and saw ponds on both sides, filled with fish and water plants. White granite pillars held up the roof, which stretched impressively high.

Paintings and calligraphy hung on the hall’s walls, giving the place an oriental, classic feel. His attention, though, was clearly fixed on what lay ahead.

A throne sat on the hall’s altar, the same spot Lin Tian used to cultivate on. Now it had been transformed into a full throne.

In one quick motion, Lin Tian shifted from where he stood and was suddenly seated on the throne. It caught Wu Yue off guard, though Cao Ying didn’t even blink.

"Sect Lingxian has grown fast, but it still feels quiet. Empty," Cao Ying said, stepping forward.

"True. That’s because we don’t have enough disciples yet to fill this place up," Lin Tian explained.

"So what’s your next move? We can’t just sit around, especially with Sect Huntian watching how impressively Sect Lingxian’s been growing," Cao Ying said, standing in front of Lin Tian’s throne.

"There’s actually a lot we need to get done. It’s going to be exhausting work," Lin Tian admitted.

"But let’s just focus on our own internal matters for now."

Lin Tian’s gaze swept forward, his voice booming and echoing through the whole hall as he called for several people to come to the main building.

"An Yue. Ya Fei. Luo Mei. Yun Yun. Ji Xue!"

"You five, come to the main hall."

His voice blasted out of the main building, carried on a strong gust of wind and a boom of qi. The sound reached all the way to the five mountains where the five halls stood.

They heard what Lin Tian said. One by one, they shot off from their mountains and landed in front of the main hall.

An Yue pushed the door open and saw the inside of the main hall, gorgeous, calming, a real feast for the eyes.

They took in the huge pillars, the ponds, the water plants, and the paintings covering the walls.

Before long, the five of them walked up to Lin Tian, still seated on his throne with Cao Ying and Wu Yue beside him.

An Yue stopped, pressed her palms together, and bowed her head respectfully. "Greetings, Master Lin."

"I’ve already assigned each of you to your own hall. You understand your hall better than anyone else in Sect Lingxian."

"I also promised you new missions. I hope you’ll listen closely to what I have to say."

Lin Tian turned and handed out new disciple tasks to each of them, matching what they’d already been working toward.

He gave the missions to Ji Xue, Ya Fei, Yun Yun, Luo Mei, and finally An Yue.

They listened carefully, taking in every word. Their faces lit up with excitement, since it had been a full year since they’d last been given new missions.

"I won’t be helping you track down what you need this time. From now on, you’re on your own to find whatever your training requires," Lin Tian said.

His words caught them off guard, but none of them pushed back or argued. Deep down, they knew this day was coming, a chance to sharpen their own skills at hunting down what they needed.

It’s for the best. If I keep helping them every step of the way, they’ll never grow, and that’ll hurt them later when they need to run their own halls on their own.

Lin Tian summoned five black pouches and sent them floating toward the group.

The pouches drifted to each of the main disciples, one by one, each stuffed with a generous stash of low-grade spirit stones.

"There’s 500 low-grade spirit stones in each one. Use that to fund your search for whatever techniques you’re after," Lin Tian added.

"You can search together, or split up and do it on your own for more freedom. I won’t stop you either way."

Lin Tian raised his hand to chest height, forming a simple technique seal, and began condensing his spiritual qi into tokens, five of them.

They watched, none of them quite sure what he was doing. Only Cao Ying understood what those five tokens meant.

"These five tokens hold a teleportation array, manifested from my own spiritual qi. Only use them if you’re facing a life or death situation," Lin Tian said.

"It’s simple. Just crush it with a burst of your qi. I’ll be there within seconds through the array stored inside," he added.

He sent the five tokens flying forward, drifting until each of the five women caught one. They smiled and tucked the items away into their bags of holding.

"Thank you for this chance, Master Lin," An Yue said, with Ya Fei and the others echoing her.

"You may go," Lin Tian said.

They nodded and walked off, leaving the main hall, leaving Lin Tian behind with just Cao Ying and Wu Yue. Cao Ying looked straight at him.

"Are you sure about this? Giving them that much freedom, I mean. Aren’t you worried other sects might try something against them?"

Lin Tian let out a slow breath. He rose from his seated position, walked down the steps with both hands clasped behind his back, his eyes fixed on the hall’s front door.

"If I don’t do this, they’ll never really learn. They’ll keep coasting along without realizing the cultivation world isn’t as kind as they think it is," Lin Tian said.

"Think of it as a trial. Something to toughen up their spirit for what’s coming."

Cao Ying took that in, let out a short breath, and nodded. There’s nothing wrong with what he’s saying. He’s only doing this for their own good.

Lin Tian turned back around, facing Cao Ying and Wu Yue again.

"There’s no Grand Elder in Sect Lingxian yet. I want you to take that position, Wu Yue," Lin Tian said.

"With everything you’ve been through, I’m confident you’ll handle the role of Grand Elder well," he explained.

"Grand Elder? Fine by me. Besides, nobody else here has ever actually served as a sect elder before," Wu Yue said.

"I have. Did you forget about me?" Cao Ying asked, pointing at herself while staring at Wu Yue.

"I’m not planning to give you the Grand Elder position, since your cultivation base already outranks mine," Lin Tian explained to Cao Ying.

"That’s exactly why I’m naming you Sect Guardian instead," Lin Tian said.

Cao Ying turned away and went quiet for a moment, then cleared her throat.

A title like that doesn’t mean much to her anyway. All that matters is staying by his side until her duty here is done.

"So... what are you going to do?" Wu Yue asked, turning to face Lin Tian.

Lin Tian smiled and started walking away from them, heading toward the main hall’s door, "I’ve got an interesting idea in mind, one that’ll definitely help me run the sect down the road."

"I’m heading out to look for that technique. You two stay here and watch over this place for me, though honestly, no sect stupid enough exists that could ever break through Sect Lingxian’s Heavenly Grade formation anyway."
