Chapter 143: CH. 143 | Zhu Wei From Zhu Clan
Before they even had a chance to ask where Lin Tian was headed, he vanished in the blink of an eye, leaving the main hall behind and speeding off away from Sect Lingxian.
Cao Ying and Wu Yue stepped outside the main building, their eyes catching a trail of white qi cutting clearly across the sky.
They watched as Lin Tian flew off, far off toward some city or another sect.
"Where’s he off to now?" Wu Yue asked, glancing at Cao Ying.
"No idea. But let’s hope he’s not out there stirring up trouble."
Somewhere else, Lin Tian flew with a different goal in mind. He wasn’t headed to any particular sect or clan.
What he needed was a technique, one that would serve him well down the road.
He needed this technique badly, since it worked in a flexible way, could be used alongside other techniques at the same time, and would give him a lot more freedom to work with.
His plan was to head to an auction house and hunt the technique down there. And not just any small town auction house either. He was aiming for one in a major city at the very least.
That way, his odds of actually getting his hands on the technique would go up considerably.
He arrived at Zhu City, the last stop on his journey. There, a massive auction house owned by the Zhu Clan stood, its inventory full and varied.
He landed right outside the city gate. With a swing of his sleeve, he activated his camouflage ability.
His white and gray Sect Lingxian robes shifted into black ones. Even so, only his appearance changed. His cultivation base stayed exactly the same underneath.
Once everything was set, Lin Tian walked over and joined the line of people waiting to enter the city. There wasn’t much paperwork or many requirements needed.
He made it into Zhu City easily, no trouble at all. Once again, the sight of a major city like Zhu City spread out before him, bustling and packed with people from all over.
He wandered the streets alone, occasionally stopping by shops that sold technique scrolls to ask if they had what he was looking for.
But none of them did. Most of them told him a technique like that wasn’t something sold openly. It was usually kept as a treasured sect asset.
Still, Lin Tian wasn’t about to give up. He was confident he’d find the technique somewhere without having to force his way into anyone’s sect.
He came to a stop in front of the Zhu Clan’s residential complex, heavily guarded by mortal soldiers.
Even so, they let people through, as long as they’d come specifically to buy something at the Zhu Clan’s auction pagoda.
Lin Tian listened as they explained, and they let him through. Unlike on actual auction days, the pagoda wasn’t nearly as crowded today.
Cultivators still came by to pick up items they needed, but the numbers were thin.
Just as he was about to step inside, one of the pagoda’s attendants approached with a smile, greeting Lin Tian.
One of the attendants happened to be a cultivator herself, and she could sense a qi aura from Lin Tian, stable and powerful, on par with the Zhu Clan Leader’s own aura.
A Perfect Nascent Soul cultivator?
Wait, there’s no auction today. What’s he doing here?
I need to report this to Clan Leader Zhu.
The other attendant welcomed Lin Tian with a smile on her face, "Welcome, Master Daoist. Is there something I can help you with?"
"Yes. I’m looking for a specific technique, a clone technique. Do you happen to have it?" Lin Tian asked, curious.
The woman in front of him froze up, startled, and glanced sideways at her colleagues.
But since they all knew Lin Tian’s cultivation level, not one of them dared to step in and help.
They were scared that even a wrong word or gesture might offend him. With just a fraction of his power, he could wipe out a mortal in seconds.
"About that... we do have it, but we—"
"What an honor it is to welcome you to my auction pagoda, Fellow Daoist," a man’s voice cut in.
In a flash of red light, a man in a red clan robe appeared in front of the auction pagoda.
He wasn’t alone either, flanked by two young female clan elders, though their cultivation base had already reached Core Formation.
Lin Tian felt a massive surge of qi at his back. He turned and saw the middle aged man, someone whose strength matched his own.
Not wanting his identity exposed, Lin Tian played it friendly, offering a smile.
He pressed his palms together and bowed his head respectfully, greeting the man in the red robe.
"Greetings, Clan Leader Zhu."
Zhu Wei walked in with an upright, commanding presence, coming to a stop right in front of Lin Tian.
Despite having lived for hundreds of years, he still couldn’t place Lin Tian’s face, nor recognize the black robe he wore.
Still, based on Lin Tian’s face and bearing, Zhu Wei was thoroughly impressed that someone so young had already reached Perfect Nascent Soul.
"What brings a fellow daoist to our auction pagoda?" Zhu Wei asked.
"I’m looking for a clone creation technique. Does Clan Leader Zhu happen to have one? I’ll pay a high price for it," Lin Tian answered.
Zhu Wei’s expression barely shifted. He turned to the side and gave a nod, ordering an attendant to go fetch the technique.
The female attendant listened closely and hurried off right away to retrieve it.
Before long, she returned carrying the technique scroll, still sealed inside a wooden box marked with an array seal.
"The Clone Soul Manifestation Technique. A Heaven-Grade technique. But given your cultivation base, Fellow Daoist, I have no doubt you’d master it well," Zhu Wei said.
To Lin Tian’s surprise, the man simply handed the technique over to him. Lin Tian narrowed his eyes, studying Zhu Wei closely, wondering what game he was playing.
"I’ll hand this technique over to you free of charge, as long as you’re willing to help us out, Fellow Daoist."
"No," Lin Tian said. "I’ll just buy it outright."
"Such a shame," Zhu Wei said.
"The price for a Heaven Grade technique like this one is 500 high grade spirit stones."
"Are you jacking up the price just to push me toward agreeing to your terms?" Lin Tian asked.
Zhu Wei let out a booming laugh, then turned his gaze forward again. "I’m doing this because I believe in your abilities."
"Tell me, Fellow Daoist... were you the one who fought that Soul Formation monster from Sect Moiyi the other day?"
Lin Tian’s eyes went wide with shock, caught completely off guard.
How... how does he know about that?
"You...?"
"A battle that big, of course I wasn’t going to miss a word of it," Zhu Wei answered.
"So, what do you say? Will you help me out?"
Lin Tian fell silent, eyes narrowed as he stared ahead, seeing no other way out of this.
If he forced a fight and tried to steal the technique, he’d walk away covered in wounds and nothing else.
My best bet here is to hear him out, see what Zhu Wei actually wants, then figure out a plan from there.
"Fine."
"I’m listening, Fellow Daoist Zhu."
