Chapter 438: Chapter 438: Trouble Arrives

CLOMP CLOMP CLOMP! CLANG CLANG!

Fully armored members of the Beixuan Dark Guard surrounded the main gate of the Mage Tower.

The sight drew the astonished gazes of countless onlookers.

None of them had ever witnessed such a spectacle before.

"Who dares to act so brazenly at the gates of the Mage Tower?"

Soon, Mages appeared at the main gate to confront the Beixuan Dark Guard surrounding the tower.

The atmosphere was incredibly tense.

This was the first time anyone had ever blockaded the Mage Tower’s gates.

It was a flagrant act of disrespect, like grinding the Mage Tower’s face into the dirt.

No proud Mage could tolerate such an insult.

Mages began to file out from inside the Mage Tower.

"Who gave you the nerve to surround the Mage Tower?"

"You have one minute to get out of my sight. Otherwise, don’t blame me for what happens next."

"This is outrageous! Do you have no respect for the Maple City Mage Tower?!"

...

Filled with righteous indignation, the Mages drew their Magic Staffs, ready for a fight.

They refused to back down.

The members of the Beixuan Dark Guard were all clad in Armor, their faces completely obscured.

Facing the angry shouts of the numerous Mages, the guards nervously tightened their grips on their weapons, ready for battle at a moment’s notice.

Even they could feel the immense pressure.

After all, the group before them represented the pinnacle of power in Maple City.

Over half of all Mages in Maple City had come from the Mage Tower.

Even within the Royal Mage Tutoring Corps, many had once pursued advanced studies at the Mage Tower. They had only joined the Corps after leaving the tower.

The Beixuan Dark Guard Commander stepped forward and announced, "Master Mages, please calm down. We are not targeting the Mage Tower."

"In truth, we have not come to fight, but to receive a certain master from the Mage Tower."

Hearing this, the crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief.

But their curiosity was immediately piqued. Who was this master the Beixuan Dark Guard Commander was referring to?

And why did receiving them require such an intimidating show of force?

Rota stood in the crowd, his brow furrowed as he watched the Beixuan Dark Guard outside.

His intuition told him things were not that simple.

’This formation doesn’t look like a welcome at all.’

’It looks more like they’re here to take someone into custody.’

’Who could possibly require such a massive force to be taken away?’

’Is there some major figure in the Mage Tower?’

A name suddenly surfaced in Rota’s mind.

’Li Wei.’

’Other than Li Wei, he couldn’t think of anyone else the Beixuan Dark Guard Commander would refer to as a "master" they needed to receive.’

’If it was anyone else, it could only be Torresta.’

’But Torresta hadn’t left the Mage Tower in decades.’

’And he had never made any enemies on the outside.’

’It’s highly unlikely the Beixuan Dark Guard Commander was talking about him.’

Martin stepped forward and asked the Beixuan Dark Guard Commander, "Who is it you’re looking for?"

The Beixuan Dark Guard Commander replied, "Grand Mage Li Wei."

Upon hearing this, Martin’s expression tensed.

He’d heard that Li Wei had returned and had even become a Grand Mage.

He had found the news hard to believe at the time.

And he hadn’t yet had the chance to see Li Wei for himself.

Now, hearing the Beixuan Dark Guard Commander say they were looking for Li Wei, Martin quickly turned to the person next to him.

"Li Wei is back?"

Rota quickly moved to Martin’s side and whispered, "He’s back. He returned this morning."

"He went out for a while and just got back a short time ago."

"These people showed up right after he returned. He must have done something while he was out."

Martin nodded. He more or less understood the situation now.

He looked at the Beixuan Dark Guard Commander and said, "Very well. I will inform Grand Mage Li Wei of this matter."

"To avoid any misunderstandings or creating a scene, please leave for now."

The Beixuan Dark Guard Commander shook his head. "No. We will not leave until we have seen Grand Mage Li Wei."

Martin frowned. He felt they were going too far.

They clearly had no respect for him.

He focused for a moment, sensing the man’s strength, and then sighed in resignation.

The man was a Tier Five Great Sword Master.

Outmatched in strength, Martin didn’t even have the standing to be forceful.

He had no choice but to say, "I will inform Grand Mage Li Wei. Whether he agrees to see you is not up to me."

"Until then, I must ask you to stand aside and stop obstructing the comings and goings of our Mage Tower members."

This time, the Beixuan Dark Guard Commander agreed.

He nodded. "Very well."

With a wave of his hand, the guards at the gate parted in perfect formation, lining up on both sides of the Mage Tower’s entrance.

Poised for battle.

Although they had cleared a path and were no longer blocking the main gate, with that formation, no one would dare walk through it.

Martin and Rota exchanged a helpless glance. They had no choice but to send Rota to find Li Wei and inform him of what was happening.

Rota went to the third floor and found the Magic Butler, intending to contact Li Wei.

He wasn’t authorized to go to the Sixth Floor.

"Magic Butler, please help me contact Li Wei," Rota said.

The words had barely left his mouth when Li Wei stepped out of a Golden Teleportation Gate.

Hearing the sound, Rota turned to see Li Wei.

He breathed a small sigh of relief upon seeing Li Wei, but then his anxiety returned.

He had no idea what Li Wei had been doing outside, or why it would cause the Beixuan Dark Guard to mobilize in such force.

Rota hurried over to Li Wei. "Li Wei, those people outside say they’re looking for you."

In his panic, Rota had forgotten Li Wei’s status as a Grand Mage, addressing him familiarly as he had in the past.

Li Wei nodded. "I know. I’ll go see them."

He knew what the Beixuan Dark Guard were here for.

’It had to be about Dragon Fall Slope again.’

’This time, the Beixuan Dark Guard had blockaded the Mage Tower itself.’

’Li Wei knew he couldn’t avoid dealing with it any longer.’

’There was no point in dragging it out.’

’He might as well go see Otz and find out what he was really after.’

’Making such a big scene over it.’

Li Wei walked toward the exit, and Rota hurried to keep up.

Rota realized Li Wei was walking so quickly that he had to jog just to keep pace.

Preoccupied with other concerns, he didn’t notice this anomaly.

The crowd took note of Li Wei’s arrival.

Everyone parted to let him through.

Many watched him with expressions of excitement and curiosity.

They were eager to see the genius Mage who had emerged from their tower.

Li Wei walked up to the Beixuan Dark Guard Commander and glanced at the guards standing watch outside.

He said, "Let’s go. I’ll go with you. Your men can leave now."

The Beixuan Dark Guard Commander nodded and gave the order to withdraw.

RUMBLE RUMBLE.

A carriage pulled up to the Mage Tower’s main gate, and the Beixuan Dark Guard Commander personally opened the door for Li Wei.

He gestured invitingly. "Grand Mage Li Wei, please."

Li Wei glanced at the man, then stepped inside the carriage.

The Beixuan Dark Guard Commander lowered the carriage curtain and commanded, "Return to the Royal Palace."

CLOMP CLOMP CLOMP!

Marching in neat, rhythmic steps, the Beixuan Dark Guard escorted Li Wei’s carriage toward the Royal Palace.

The clueless onlookers, unaware of the true situation, saw Li Wei receiving such a grand escort and were filled with envy.

They sighed in ignorance, wondering, ’When will I get to be treated like that?’
