Chapter 437: Chapter 437: Father-Daughter Reunion
Li Wei looked at Little John, feeling helpless.
If Little John wasn’t willing to fight for it himself, then there was nothing Li Wei could do to help.
With Li Wei’s current power, he was more than capable of helping Little John pursue his happiness.
It was no exaggeration to say that he already possessed the power to sway the fate of a kingdom. A single Meteor Fireball Technique could completely destroy the Imperial Capital of the Macher Kingdom.
With the Imperial Capital annihilated, the King, Military Generals, and Ministers would all be dead.
The Macher Kingdom would be as good as destroyed.
Li Wei and Little John walked around the Mage Tower for a while before parting ways to attend to their own matters.
Little John was genuinely delighted to see Li Wei.
He had thought that after Li Wei became a Grand Mage, he would be difficult to get along with.
But unexpectedly, he hadn’t changed at all.
The only change, perhaps, was that he had grown even stronger.
Li Wei entered the Mage Tower and went to the Sixth Floor to see Torresta.
"Teacher, I’ve returned."
Torresta was standing in the center of the grand hall, waiting for Li Wei’s arrival.
He had known for some time that Li Wei was back.
He had seen Li Wei and Little John walking and chatting at the base of the Mage Tower.
Although he was desperate to see his resurrected daughter, he hadn’t urged Li Wei to hurry.
Torresta smiled faintly. "Welcome back."
Li Wei moved to release Saint Xi from the Beast Taming Ring.
"Hm?"
He gave the Beast Taming Ring a strange look. ’Why can’t I get Saint Xi out?’
’Is the Beast Taming Ring broken?’
He communicated with Saint Xi mentally.
"Saint Xi, come on out. Is something wrong with the Beast Taming Ring?"
Saint Xi replied in a small voice, "I’m a little scared."
Li Wei couldn’t help but laugh when he heard this.
’Is this what they call getting cold feet when you’re almost home?’
Li Wei could understand how Saint Xi felt.
He said, "Don’t be afraid. He’s your father, the person in this world who loves you most."
Saint Xi fell silent.
Torresta seemed to realize Li Wei was communicating with Saint Xi.
He watched Li Wei quietly, his gaze gentle, betraying no hint of impatience. He certainly didn’t say anything to rush Li Wei or Saint Xi.
After a long, internal struggle, Saint Xi finally took a step and emerged from the Beast Taming Ring.
As Torresta gazed upon the Holy Young Dragon floating in midair, the calm in his eyes finally broke.
Though he was trying his best to restrain himself, Li Wei could still sense the storm of emotion churning deep within his eyes.
Torresta had been waiting for this day for a thousand years.
It was hard to imagine what kind of emotion could sustain such a conviction for a millennium.
Torresta stepped forward softly and reached out a hand.
His hand trembled slightly.
It was hard to believe. Torresta was an Illusory Body; logically, he shouldn’t even be able to tremble.
But he was so overcome with emotion that he couldn’t control himself, instinctively displaying some very human reactions.
Saint Xi looked at Torresta, a little afraid.
It wasn’t the fear of danger, but rather a fear of intimacy, of family.
Or perhaps it was a fear born of expectation and hope.
Saint Xi hid beside Li Wei, not daring to move closer.
Seeing this, Li Wei gave Saint Xi a gentle nudge from behind, pushing her toward Torresta.
Saint Xi panicked, her limbs flailing in the air as if she were clutching at straws to steady herself.
She tumbled headfirst into Torresta’s arms.
Torresta embraced Saint Xi, his voice low and thick with a mix of complex emotions and excitement. "My child, you’ve finally returned."
Hearing his words, Saint Xi’s struggles gradually subsided.
She reached out her claws and hugged Torresta.
Her body was still small and her arms a bit short, so even though she was hugging him with all her might, she looked like a small puppy clinging to its master’s chest.
Torresta held Saint Xi for a moment before letting her go.
He looked at Saint Xi and said earnestly, "My child, I know you carry a heavy burden of hatred."
"But I want you to live a happy life, free from the sorrow of past hatreds."
"You don’t need to worry about the Demon Dragon King. I will kill him and avenge your mother."
At that moment, a light of absolute conviction shone in Torresta’s eyes.
Hearing this, Li Wei stared blankly at Torresta.
He knew Torresta was telling the truth.
Torresta hadn’t given up on his revenge. He saw the Demon Dragon King as his mortal enemy.
It was terrifying to imagine the turmoil that could be unleashed by a Witch Lich—or rather, a Mage—nursing a thousand-year-old grudge.
A Mage who has spent a millennium plotting to kill a single enemy would strike fear into the heart of any foe, even one as mighty as the Demon Dragon King.
A prepared Mage is always the most terrifying kind of enemy.
And this was a Legendary Mage who had been preparing for a millennium.
Upon hearing this, Saint Xi quickly grabbed Torresta’s arm and said anxiously, "Father, don’t go! The Demon Dragon King is too powerful."
Possessing Philis’s memories from before her death, Saint Xi knew better than anyone just how powerful the Demon Dragon King was.
Those memories had also left an indelible fear seared into her heart.
It was a fear that could only be vanquished by killing the Demon Dragon King.
Fortunately, it was not a hopeless endeavor.
Saint Xi had inherited the bloodline of a Holy Giant Dragon. As long as she could grow safely for a few thousand years, she would reach the Complete Stage.
By then, she would be powerful enough to seek out an aged Demon Dragon King and settle the score.
Seeing Saint Xi’s concern for him, Torresta smiled, gratified and moved.
He stroked Saint Xi’s head and said, "Don’t worry. I am well aware of how strong the Demon Dragon King is. I would never act rashly without absolute certainty of success."
’I can’t afford to be reckless and tip him off,’ he thought. ’If I fail to kill the Demon Dragon King on the first attempt, and he learns that a Legendary Mage has been plotting his demise for a millennium... then my chances of ever killing him will be next to none. The Demon Dragon King would become incredibly cautious. He would also do everything in his power to kill me.’
For now, Torresta was in the shadows, while the Demon Dragon King was in the open.
Li Wei walked to the edge of the hall, giving Saint Xi and Torresta plenty of time to be alone.
Torresta began telling Saint Xi about her mother, recounting some of their past experiences together.
Saint Xi had inherited some of her mother Philis’s memories.
But they were mostly from the time just before her death; she had few to no memories of Philis’s life with Torresta.
The only thing Saint Xi knew for certain was that Torresta was her father.
This was an indisputable fact.
Li Wei stood at the edge of the Sixth Floor. Though he wasn’t intentionally eavesdropping, he could still hear the stories Torresta was telling.
His physical constitution was astonishingly good.
In terms of physique alone, he was on par with a Knight of the same tier.
Perhaps even stronger.
This was a massive improvement brought about by his contract with Saint Xi.
Before this, Li Wei’s physique had been much stronger than that of an ordinary Mage, but it had only been at the level of a Tier Three Warrior.
A physique comparable to that of a Tier Four Knight gave Li Wei exceptionally sharp hearing and sight.
Out of sheer boredom, Li Wei gazed out toward Maple City.
Suddenly, he spotted a troop of riders rapidly approaching the Mage Tower.
His brow furrowed slightly as he recognized them.
"Here comes trouble."
