Chapter 439: Chapter 439: Seeing Locks Again
Li Wei was escorted all the way into the Royal Palace.
Or perhaps "escorted under guard" would be more accurate.
The Beixuan Dark Guard Commander, Grant, opened the carriage door for Li Wei.
"Grand Mage Li Wei, we have arrived at the Royal Palace."
Li Wei stepped out of the carriage.
He scanned his surroundings and chuckled lightly.
"This place is much nicer than it used to be."
Li Wei had been to the Royal Palace once before, but back then it was still called the City Lord’s Mansion.
After the Beixuan Kingdom was founded, the City Lord’s Mansion was expanded significantly and rebuilt into a more magnificent Royal Palace.
Grant offered no reply, simply saying, "Grand Mage Li Wei, please come with me."
Li Wei asked, "To see Otz?"
Grant said sternly, "Please do not refer to the Sovereign by his name."
"You may address him as His Majesty, or the King."
Li Wei let out a dry laugh and ignored him.
’He’s *their* King and *their* Majesty, not mine. Why should I abide by their rules?’
Though Grant had made his point, he didn’t press the matter.
He led Li Wei toward the hall where Otz was located.
Before long, Li Wei saw a massive hall—the largest and tallest building within the Royal Palace.
Grant led Li Wei to the entrance of the hall and said to the guards at the door, "Please inform His Majesty that Grand Mage Li Wei has arrived."
Just as the guard was about to move, the hall doors swung open on their own.
"There’s no need to announce him. I heard."
"Hahaha, Li Wei, please, come in."
Grant looked shocked to see Otz personally opening the door for Li Wei.
He quickly bowed his head and said respectfully, "Your Majesty."
The nearby guards also bowed their heads in greeting.
Otz nodded at Grant, then looked at Li Wei and said, "Quickly, come in."
"We last met a year ago. I never expected that in just one year, you would become a Grand Mage."
"If I recall, you were only a Tier One Mage back then, weren’t you?"
Li Wei nodded and followed Otz’s footsteps into the hall.
He said, "Yes. At the time, I had just broken through to Tier One and become an Official Mage."
Otz said with a smile, "Do you remember what I told you back then?"
Li Wei glanced at him. "I remember."
Otz laughed. "If you’re willing, I can make good on that promise right now."
Li Wei chuckled and shook his head. "Let’s not. I don’t want to fight Mage Allen for the position of the Kingdom’s Chief Mentor."
Just then, Allen’s voice sounded from nearby.
He said with a laugh, "Li Wei, you’re mistaken."
"How could you call it a fight?"
"If you were willing, I would gladly give you this position. You are the true Chief Mentor of the Kingdom, the undisputed number one Mage."
Hearing the voice, Li Wei turned to look at Allen.
He smiled and greeted him, "Mage Allen. Long time no see."
"Li Wei. Long time no see."
Allen looked at Li Wei, his feelings complex and his face full of awe.
He had always held Li Wei in high regard and felt he had immense potential.
But he had never imagined it would be to this degree.
It was simply unbelievable.
’Has Li Wei been possessed? How could anyone go from a Magic Apprentice to a Grand Mage in just a year and a half?’
’If it weren’t for the Elemental Tower’s authentication on the Magic Badge pinned to Li Wei’s chest, he would have suspected the whole thing was a fraud.’
As it turned out, his initial judgment had been correct.
Li Wei’s potential far exceeded his wildest imagination.
Under any other circumstances, Li Wei might have been in the mood to chat with Allen.
But he was here to deal with trouble.
He looked at Otz and asked, "Why, exactly, did you summon me?"
Otz wasn’t angered by Li Wei’s lack of an honorific.
So-called honorifics were merely a product of hierarchy, used by inferiors to address their superiors.
With Li Wei’s strength and potential, he was fully qualified to be his equal.
Otz said, "It wasn’t I who wanted to see you. It was someone else."
"Oh? Who?" Li Wei looked puzzled.
’He was rather curious. Who could possibly make Otz go to such lengths on their behalf?’
Otz said, "Come with me. He’s waiting for you in the back."
Li Wei’s gaze sharpened, and he followed Otz toward the back.
His Spiritual Perception had already spread out ahead of him.
He discovered that the walls of the main hall could block his Spiritual Perception.
’It must be a countermeasure Otz had prepared specifically against a Mage’s Spiritual Perception to prevent spying.’
Li Wei grew even more curious about who this person in the back was.
Led by Otz, Li Wei arrived at an inner chamber of the palace.
When he saw the person inside, his expression was one of complete surprise.
He never expected to run into Locks here.
A wary look quickly appeared in his eyes.
Locks was not someone to be trifled with.
The first time they met, he had tried to attack Li Wei.
Locks looked at Li Wei and said with a smile, "Li Wei, I told you we would meet again."
Li Wei said coolly, "But I had no desire to see you."
Otz and Allen heard their exchange and looked at each other in shock and confusion.
’They know each other?’
And from the looks of it, their relationship wasn’t a good one.
Otz and Allen couldn’t help but glance at Li Wei, astonished.
They were amazed that Li Wei dared to speak to Locks in such a manner.
After all, Locks was a Tier Six Great Mage, far more powerful than Li Wei.
His status was also far higher.
Yet Li Wei seemed completely unafraid of him.
Locks chuckled. "It’s actually simple to ensure we don’t meet again. Just give me a few of your biological samples."
"From that point on, I will never bother you again."
Li Wei sneered. "Heh. In your dreams."
’Heaven knows what Locks wanted with my samples.’
Locks’s profession was Biological Alchemist, which was just another way of saying he was a mad scientist.
Li Wei wouldn’t be surprised by any outrageous thing he might do.
Locks shook his head, sighed, and said, "Li Wei, why are you so wary of me?"
Li Wei replied, "I doubt anyone would have a good impression of a stranger who tries to attack them the moment they meet."
Hearing this, Otz and Allen exchanged a glance.
They guessed that some conflict must have occurred between Li Wei and Locks.
Locks said, "Let’s not discuss our private matters. I asked for you because I wanted to inquire about Dragon Fall Slope."
"Have you seen the Giant Dragon at Dragon Fall Slope?" Locks asked.
Li Wei said firmly, "No."
Locks stared at him and said calmly, "You’re lying."
"Yes. So what if I am?" Li Wei admitted bluntly.
Locks smiled. "It seems you won’t cooperate without a little persuasion."
"Erica," Locks called out.
Erica stepped out from behind him and walked toward Li Wei.
’A mere Li Wei isn’t worthy of my personal attention.’
Erica walked up to Li Wei. "Li Wei, you should just tell my teacher everything."
