Chapter 402: Sometimes, being smart isn’t exactly a good thing
Yedrist didn’t say a word after Alvey spoke, only looking at the Greater Demon in silence, before suddenly bursting into laughter.
[Hahaha!!!]
The Leviathan raised his body high up and looked towards the distance before he spoke.
[You see, young child.
Sometimes, being smart isn’t exactly a good thing.]
"I agree with you on that."
Alvey and Yedrist remained in silence after that, with the ocean breeze blowing past while migrating birds flew through the skies.
**KAABOOOMMMM!!!
Shockwaves rippled through the liquid expanse that was the Chatane Ocean as a colossal blast erupted, creating a mesmerizing display with a towering geyser of water that shot up into the clouds as if reaching for the heavens.
As gravity asserted its dominance, the colossal geyser began its descent, cascading back down in a deluge of water droplets.
Within the shimmering curtain of falling water, the radiant beams of light became visible, powered by the mighty energy of the Leviathan and the dense dark light of the Greater Demon.
[Those naval officers of yours slowly encircling the Triton’s Ark in the Umhiz Ocean and that General you called Sylvan.
They were supposed to be my targets, but you, Alvey Sargon, are more than enough to replace them.]
**BOOM!!
A lower yield explosion rang out as the two beams cancelled each other out. Alvey quickly took distance from the aged Sea Serpent, his eyes narrowing as he confirmed his conjecture.
’As I thought.
Despite his claims of neutrality; there’s no way that he, an Aramisian, would ignore the invading Demons and kill Aramisian Transcendents.’
Just as he thought that, the Serpent’s forked tail burst out from the water and sliced towards him at supersonic speed, but the Greater Demon flapped his wings and dodged it, before firing a beam of light towards the tail to knock it back into the water.
At that same instant, a beam of condensed blue light carved through the surface of the ocean on its way towards Alvey.
However, this time, Alvey didn’t move to dodge, but just raised his hand and covered it in demonic energy.
The beam of light collided with his palm and was instantly engulfed by his demonic energy before being absorbed into his palm.
"Your Pseudo-Authorities are Water, Light, Ice, Earth, Wind, Lightning.
Energy quality is at least 2x higher than normal.
From your first two attacks, it seems you also have a higher efficiency as well.
You also do not possess Divine Factors.
—All of these, are things I can handle."
Alvey’s aura exploded from his body, with the energy of the law of gravity bending all the other beams of light that Yedrist fired at him.
"Herald of Light."
The man activated his unique skill and looked up at the Sea Serpent with a calm gaze before declaring.
"This would be over quickly."
[I could say the same to you!]
Yedrist roared and dove into the water, with Alvey’s eyes only catching sight of a long shadow of a huge snake blitzing through the waves when his instincts warned him of danger.
He flapped his wings and shot up into the air, avoiding the jaws of the Sea Serpent that snapped shut in the place where he was half a second ago.
Trailing behind him as he flew, were over a dozen serpentine dragons formed out of pressurized water, baring their fangs which glowed with an icy light.
"Light-Space: Luminar Blades.
Pseudo-Authority of Light: Luminous Beam Barrage."
Alvey summoned blades of pure light infused with spatial law essence on both hands, before releasing a barrage of light beams that collided with the serpentine dragons after him.
He drew a parabolic arc in the air before creating a foothold of compressed air and using it to springboard in Yedrist’s direction.
[Pseudo-Authority of Water: Blessing of the Oasis, Water’s Jealousy! + Pseudo-Authority of Lightning: Storm of Death!
Yedrist used a buff on himself to increase his damage and grant himself a shield of water that surrounded his form while using a water debuff that reduced Alvey’s damage and his speed.
As if that wasn’t enough, he channelled the residual water power and tacked on another Pseudo-Authority with a direct offensive technique.
The clear blue sky turned dark in an instant, as a writhing maelstrom of upward and downward air currents formed pillars of lightning that struck down on Alvey while winding waterspouts with devastating range whirled into existence.
In response to this, Alvey first used his Unique skill to purify himself of the debuffs, before two extra wings of light manifested on his back, increasing his flight speed to the point where he appeared to be a blur in Yedrist’s eyes.
[?!]
Alvey weaved through all the water spouts and lightning pillars faster than the eye could see, and though Yedrist quickly summoned a pair of towering icy walls to impede his flight path, it was futile.
The single second it took the ice law energy to form the walls was enough for Alvey to cross the kilometre of distance between them and attack.
’Pseudo-Authority of Light: Luminous Smite!’
*SWISH!
Yedrist barely heard the sound of Alvey’s blades cutting through the air, but he definitely felt the pain when they sliced through his scales like butter and tore his flesh apart.
Alvey’s slashes transcended the physical and severed space itself, making conventional defences like Yedrist’s blessing useless against it.
But just for good measure, Alvey placed his hand on the blue layer of light surrounding Yedrist’s body, before invoking a technique of the opposing elemental law.
’Fire Law Manipulation: Inferno Desiccation!’
Yedrist’s tail slammed into his body the second after, sending him flying through the air and crashing into the water where he was instantly encased in a dozen layers of ice, but the explosion triggered by his technique caused the Sea Serpent’s massive form to stumble.
His blessing was deactivated and before he could reactivate it, he noticed an orb of energy in the cross wound Alvey had given him.
[?!]
"Light-Space: Implosion."
The Greater Demon’s voice rang out half a second before the fabric of space compressed and concentrated the already condensed energy into a very tiny point, causing an implosion that unleashed a powerful burst of destructive force in Yedrist’s open wound.
Alvey, shot through the air, melting the remaining ice on his body with flames before redirecting the flames to his swords and sending out double slashes of flame, light and spatial energy.
Yedrist roared in rage and unleashed dozens of pressurized water streams that collided with the slashes mid-air in an array of dazzling steam explosions.
The Sea Serpent called down a rain of lightning, and following the bolts of lightning was a giant spear of earth with a ribbon of water and lightning around it, piercing through the clouds and hurtling towards Alvey.
"Herald of Light: Solar Flare Burst!"
Alvey dissolved his swords and redirected the energy into a radiant sphere of intense light which he hurled at the incoming spear.
The collision between Alvey’s radiant sphere and the Sea Serpent’s colossal spear created a devastating explosion that shrouded the battlefield in blinding light while sending shockwaves rippling in all directions.
The sheer amount of power in the two attacks and the resultant explosion scared off all the Sea Creatures who dared to come close to where the two were fighting.
From the dissipating steam emerged the Sea Serpent’s massive head, jaws agape, and dense water law energy crackling within its maw, ready for the next onslaught.
Water sprayed out with ultra-high pressure became a weapon in itself, and it was sharper than any sword.
The narrower the output, the stronger the pressure.
Alvey knew this and decided to dodge the attack as a whole, but his lower body was suddenly encased in a massive block of ice, its weight pulling him downward with enough force to cancel out the force he used to propel himself upwards.
The end result was him remaining stationary for a few seconds, more than enough time for the pressurized beam of water to reach him.
He had hastily constructed the barriers of light with his demonic energy but it was futile, the beam shattered them with ease and collided with his body.
Bright red blood sprayed out as the pressurized beam sent Alvey hurtling out of the air and crashing down into the turbulent waters.
Unyielding, Yedrist conjured a giant spear of ice with swirling wind around it, launching it towards the submerged Demon.
However, spatial slashes erupted from the water, slicing the spear in two equal halves and causing a brilliant explosion as the energies within it detonated.
Dozens of spatial slashes and beams of light followed, the Sea Serpent utilizing his own light energy to block the light beams while moving to dodge the spatial blade onslaught.
Asserting his dominance over the ocean, Yedrist commanded the water to rise up, removing all the water around where Alvey was swimming through and causing him to be unbalanced by the abrupt disappearance of the water around him.
Coated in an icy light, the Serpent’s forked tail thundered down, aimed at Alvey but he created a shield with his demonic energy to block it before flapping his wings and flying away before the shield broke.
The Greater Demon then activated his light wing technique and his whole form turned into a streak of light that blitzed past Yedrist’s head faster than the Sea Serpent could react.
With the power of his Pseudo-Authorities, Alvey put his hands together and concentrated light and spatial law energies.
’Luminar Annihilation!’
