Chapter 345: Time and Light
’That’s right, he wanted me to fight in a war...’
Arthur thought as he looked down at the carnage below, seeing many soldiers being torched by the still-burning flames of the previous explosions, yet, more took their place charging towards the demons and stabbing them with swords and spears.
But even more than that, Arthur was intrigued by something else.
"Divinity? Some of these humans, and flugels have divinity in them."
As the Progenitor of the godslayer race, mistaking the signature energy of the gods was impossible for him.
However, he could tell that these were just normal flugels and elves who so happened to have divine factors for reasons he did not know of.
’Still a target for my powers, though.’
He looked around and analysed the battlefield more, taking note of the fact that every single soldier’s weapon was bathed in dense amounts of holy magic power. As if the holy magic was infused into the very metal used to craft the weapons.
’That’s probably the case. But Holy Magic, and a Light Magic bomb. Soldiers with divinity...they came prepared to deal with the demons.
I think it’s safe to assume that this is a ’Race War’ between these three races, maybe more, and the demons.
Do the demons have allies here? Not so sure.
Still, it’s quite bold to attack a military city as big as this with just this amount of military force.’
Looking at the elves who did not have any divine factor holders among them, he placed a hand on his chin and continued his thoughts.
’Do they not have? Or theirs are just not here?
I have not finished reading the area with my Law of Knowledge, and things are a lot harder since I do not have a pseudo-authority, and the world is still repelling me a bit.
I can’t peruse this world’s metadata so easily.’
Arthur’s thoughts, sped up rapidly by the ’Third Magic’ took no less than a few seconds to occur.
On the outside, however, his body was slowly fading away into obscurity, as he had employed the law of concealment.
Arthur liked fights, but he certainly did not want to engage in one like the current situation, a war he had zero idea about the circumstances.
So, he was planning to slowly conceal himself from sight as naturally as possible, then disappear from the area right after.
Besides the uniformed demon, Arthur was sure no one present was strong enough to see through his concealment; they were all Legendary realms at best, after all.
Said Uniformed demon had also gone downstairs under the cover of the smoke—to check on the magic weapons of mass destruction in the basement—though Arthur did not know this reason.
Unfortunately, one of the flugels had a skill that let them see through things like this, and that person so happened to turn in Arthur’s direction.
"Huh? A kid...?
...
No, he’s not"
The flugel uttered those words at first glance, but after sensing the law energy the boy was using, he concluded there was no way he was just ’a kid’.
’Is he one of those old demons who look young? No, It doesn’t matter.’
He saw Arthur standing atop a magic circle, with another one in front of him having similar inscriptions on it.
’A summoning magic circle? Perhaps...he’s one of the summoners who bring more demons into our world!
If so, he must be eliminated!!’
The instant the flugel thought that, he took action. Encasing his sword in divinity, he charged right towards the teenage boy who had a strange expression on his face upon discovering he was seen.
He created a cosmic energy shield in front of his body, just in time to block the overhead sword slash of the flugel that carved the ground around him and made the building creak ominously.
"...how can you see me? Or rather, why the heck are you attacking me unprovoked?
I’ll have you know I have nothing to do with whatever reason you’re attacking them."
As Arthur spoke, he jumped back and attempted to conceal himself once more, but the flugel shouted out.
"Silence, demon! Your words would not fool me. Hiding is also futile! My unique skill can see right through you!!"
His words gave Arthur the answer to his first question, making the boy raise his brow in light surprise.
"What are the odds, huh? Should have just teleported."
He spoke with a sigh, facepalming at his silly decision before shrugging.
"Oh well, it doesn’t matter. I didn’t want to get involved, however—"
"Divine Smite!"
"—I wouldn’t just sit back and let myself be attacked one-sidedly."
Arthur looked up from his palm and at the flugel who had charged in and was delivering a diagonal sweeping slash to his side.
He flexed his fingers and stretched his right hand out, catching the divinity-infused weapon with his bare palm, much to the shock of the flugel.
Before the man could even exclaim in shock, Arthur used Time acceleration and stretched out his left hand, and with his two hands now grabbing the blade, he pulled it out of its wielder’s hands, spun around in a clockwise motion, at supersonic speed, before slamming the handle of the sword into the side of the man’s head all in one fluid motion.
The force at which Arthur bashed his head caused his skull to crack and spill blood, while his body was launched through the air, slamming into another airborne flugel who was fighting with a mid-rank demon and sending both of them tumbling toward the ground.
Arthur then tossed the sword onto the ground, before wincing lightly.
"Ow..."
He had caught the blade of a Legendary realm existence, mid-attack, with his bare hands; so even if the divinity had zero effect on him, the sharpness of the blade and the force behind it were definitely going to wound him.
Silver blood dripped down his palm and to the ground, and looking at this, Arthur had a strange idea.
He brought his palm up to his face and licked his blood a bit, only for his expression to turn strange right after.
"Yuck! How do vampires deal with this?"
By the time he said this, his wounds had already healed completely, and this was something that the uniformed demon who had just come back up the stairs noticed.
’Did his wound just heal after he licked his palm...?
No, wait a second. He caught the attack of an inferior-stage Legendary with his bare hands and smacked him back with enough force to send him flying hundreds of metres into the air.
Considering his stats, it’s not too surprising though...’
The man then turned his attention towards the battle in front of him, silently rousing his magic power as he spoke.
"I spent all day yesterday, summoning all these demons to fill this new city.
I can’t have you lot suddenly appear and kill them all."
[ON THAT BUILDING! ATTACK THAT KID-LOOKING DEMON, HE’S THE SUMMONER!!
...AND THE PERSON IN THE DEMON UNIFORM BESIDE HIM TOO!]
It seemed that the flugel Arthur had smacked had relayed his thoughts to the others, prompting the order that now attracted the attention of many humans and flugels—the ones with divine factors.
With battle cries and bloodshot eyes, they all roused their divinities and charged towards the two, making Arthur sigh as he turned to Alvey and spoke.
"I have zero intention of getting involved in you guys’ war, you know?"
"Unfortunately, they don’t think the same. And they are coming with the intent to kill, so are you just gonna stand there and let them have their way?"
"Not a chance in hell."
Arthur stretched out his right palm in the direction of the incoming flugels, synchronous with the uniformed demon raising his left hand in their direction.
Both of them channelled energy into the half-formed law-origin cores in their souls, triggering the activations of their ’Unique Skills’.
"Pseudo-Authority of Time."
"Pseudo-Authority of Light."
A mighty wave of magic power and demonic energy blasted out from both their bodies, surging towards their attackers and slamming into their bodies.
"Temporal Stop."
"Radiant Barrage."
Arthur used his power to suspend the flow of time for everything within the area affected by the burst of energy he released, with all the existences that were present there being frozen in place.
In that same moment, the Uniformed Demon channelled his law energy and focused it into a radiant orb of light at his fingertips.
At first glance, it was glaringly obvious to Arthur that this demon’s light was purer than that of the humans and flugels with divine factors!
With a sweeping motion of his hand, he released the orb which then exploded into a flurry of radiant projectiles, creating a dazzling display of light as they moved in graceful arcs.
Each one left behind a luminous trail as they pierced into the localized field of suspended time Arthur created, however, they were not affected and instead, kept moving forward undeterred.
The projectiles pierced all the time and stopped divine humans and flugels, however, there was no visible effect on impact.
Seeing this, Arthur retracted the destruction law energy he had primed for a follow-up attack, shrugging his shoulders as he released the temporal stop.
It was then, that the light show finally happened.
**BOOM! BOOOMMM!!!
