Chapter 330: Kulir IV
By the time the sound of the lance tearing through the air rang out, it had already reached Kulir’s position in the air.
However, the god flipped in the air and caught the bullet lance, taking advantage of his momentum to spin around once more and throw the weapon right towards Idall.
The Bullet Lance shot towards the light god faster than he could react and hit him square in the chest.
"GAAh!!"
After temporarily putting Idall out of commission, Kulir descended to the ground and turned around to see Edward reduce the distance in-between them to zero, swinging his sword as he called out.
"Fifth of Sword: Annihilation’s Embrace!"
A palpable aura of lightning and flames surrounded him, as his power and technique converged onto his blade, turning it into an instrument of annihilation.
His swing sent the blade slicing through the air, leaving a trail of crackling energy in its path towards Kulir.
In response, the god converged darkness law energy in his palm and conjured a sword, swinging it to meet Edward’s incoming slash.
***BOOOOOMMMM!!!!!
The impact resonated with a thunderous roar, shaking the very ground beneath their feet as a massive explosion erupted.
Kulir burst through the flames, beelining straight towards Edward who activated a spell, sending a wave of white lightning towards him.
"Dark Lightning."
The god of darkness responded with the opposite, releasing a wave of black lightning that collided with Edward’s white lightning, the two spells nullifying each other in an instant.
Kulir then used his superior speed and swirled around Edward, grabbing the boy and flinging him into Esna’s spell circle.
"For fuck’s sake!"
Esna cursed as she used wind magic to knock Edward’s body out of the way, barely in time to prevent him from getting hit by the magic projectiles.
"Hmm...impressive."
With those words of praise, Kulir summoned bolts of dark lightning from the skies, using them to counter the dozens of projectiles Esna sent towards him and then snapping his fingers, manipulating the essence of the law of shadows.
Ten shadowy tendrils burst out from within Esna’s shadow, wrapping around her body faster than she could react.
He then generated five walls of earth and used the shadowy tendrils to bash Esna’s body through all of them, before slamming her down on the ground once more.
Kulir then proceeded to show the overwhelming power difference between them, dishing out a relentless assault of powerful attacks that knocked them down one by one.
After doing this, Kulir looked around him, cleaning the dust off his clothes as he spoke.
"You all are not stupid. You should have realised that defeating me is impossible, so why bother trying?"
His words were nothing more than a means to buy time to utilize the energy of the law of fate, a frown appeared on his face as he noted that despite the fact he could easily beat all of them, their existences still appeared to be a danger to him.
And as stated before, Undine had concealed her fate with Nicole with her authority, so Kulir’s calculations did not take her into account, and neither did include Number One’s clone or Layla’s maid who were watching the situation from afar.
However, besides those three, Kulir was currently the strongest existence on the surface of the Planet Gade.
This made him confused about what exactly the danger was.
Idall who was clutching his bleeding chest, noticed the energy of the law moving and realised what Kulir was doing.
The frown that appeared on the god of Darkness’ face made Idall confirm his previous readings were still accurate.
’Meaning that it is still possible for us to achieve victory.’
And that was exactly why Kulir was not using his full might. He wanted to know what this unknown danger was.
The quintet had gotten some hits in on Kulir, but it was as if they weren’t even dealing much damage.
This was expected though, as the full power of a nonstandard Intermediate Legendary was too much for them to handle.
Idall, the one with the highest realm here was only a Superior Stage Epic, and the other Four were inferiors.
Heck, the fact that they were not dead yet could only be attributed to their own nonstandardness, as well as their powerful equipment.
"Surrender, and I may consider sparing your lives."
Of course, Kulir was only bullshitting and was simply trying to dig deeper with fate, but much to his shock, Esna’s mere presence did not even allow him that luxury.
’Just what sort of power does this girl have? Her presence can even mess up my control over universal laws too.’
As he was thinking that, Edward wiped the blood off the side of his face and stabbed his sword into the ground before saying.
"Didn’t I tell you, Layla? Defeating a Legendary is impossible for the current us."
You sure did, Ed. You sure did."
Layla replied after downing the contents of two potion bottles, shattering them in her hands right after.
"So, do we use our other perks?"
"Limit it to Legendary Grade stuff. That’s the most we can use without self-damaging backlash."
"That much should be enough to put us on even ground."
Edward spoke as he dropped his sword onto the floor, before summoning another identical one from his inventory, along with his Great Shield.
Seeing this Kulir narrowed his eyes and thought.
’He fights with a shield? And yet he’s been only using a sword since? And this new sword is different too.’
The boy took a stance with his sword and shield, at the same time that Nicole summoned her True Battle Dress, switching out her now broken lance for her Soul Weapon.
The ribbon of water surrounding the weapon spun around lively as if trembling in joy that it had been summoned.
Layla also switched out her now cracked Epic Grade sword for the Legendary equivalent, a simple yet striking weapon crafted from the finest obsidian black metal and adorned with intricate green inscriptions that danced along its surface.
On the other hand, she pulled out a mini railgun and infused her energy into it, revving the weapon to life.
Lastly, Esna switched out the catalyst wide arm bracelets she was wearing for a new pair. Each one was adorned with a series of jewels embedded in a straight line. Each jewel, like a vibrant prism, showcased a distinct colour representing an element of magic.
The bracelets bore enigmatic inscriptions etched in a long-forgotten ancient language, their symbols glowing dimly as if infused with residual magic.
"Idall, please support us as much as you can."
Layla spoke while infusing her aura into the weapon and causing the inscriptions on it to light up.
Seeing this, Kulir decided to respond in kind, manipulating a wave of dark energy to wash across his body and wrap around him.
When his body was finally uncovered by the darkness, he now donned a suit of black armour, exuding an eerie aura with a sleek but menacing design that echoed his nature.
Intricate patterns of swirling shadows adorned the plates, giving the impression of an ever-shifting veil of darkness. Each piece of the armour was meticulously crafted, providing both protection and flexibility in battle.
His arm guards glowed with crimson runes, reminiscent of seething embers that also adorned the edges of the armour, pulsating with an ominous energy.
It was visibly obvious to the quartet that these strange crimson runes had the effect of turning his arm guards into magic catalysts, and they were at least Epic Grade as well.
Silence pervaded the area as the four teenagers tightened their grips around their weapons.
Layla took a step forward, motioning as if she was about to kick off the ground and drawing Kulir’s attention towards her.
**WHOOSH!!!
"?!!"
Kulir’s instincts screamed out in danger and he reacted appropriately, coalescing the energy of the universal law of darkness to form a shield right behind him, just in time to block Layla’s aura-infused slash that suddenly came from behind.
**CRACK!!
The shield rippled and spider web-like cracks spread out across it omnidirectionally, shocking the Malevolent god of darkness.
’She knows teleportation too?!
Wait, that’s not important.
That sword of hers cracked my shield, it has universal law energy stored inside it like that other projectile weapon she was using before.’
In the instant Kulir thought all that, he spun his body around and clotheslined Layla faster than she could use her blink spell, sending her flying back a hundred metres.
**BZZTT!!
Edward flashed in right beside him, swinging his sword coated in white lightning and aura as he activated a technique.
"Fourth of Sword: Stormbreaker’s Surge!"
Kulir’s vision blurred as a series of six diagonal sword slashes relentlessly crashed down on him in rapid succession, conjuring an electrifying spectacle that engulfed him in an overwhelming surge of power.
The energy unleashed in each of the strikes gave him the sensation of being caught in a raging storm, and the impact resonated like the crashing of colossal waves, sending shockwaves through the battlefield.
