Chapter 292: Slayer race strengthening method
"Huh? He’s not dead? Just how much life force does he have?"
[As much life force as a Legendary realm existence.]
Undine replied to Layla’s question as she watched Nicole hold up her lance in front of Gilbalar’s head, looking the man in the eye as she stabbed his forehead with it, piercing through his skull and turning his brain to mush.
[And now, he’s dead.
Good work guys, this was quite the hard-fought battle.
Especially considering your opponent was an anomaly like you guys who could fight people stronger than he was with ease.
If your all had powers comparable to normal inferior stage Epic realms, you’d have been dead five times over.]
"Is that how you congratulate someone on winning a fight?
Still, I agree with your second statement.
Despite the fact that this world Is low levelled, this guy was strong enough to beat the heck out of most Epic realm existences in some higher worlds."
Layla replied to Undine as she popped open a potion bottle and downed the contents, while Esna and Edward closed in on them with exhausted looks on their faces.
"How much energy do you guys have left? I’m so drained that a simple fireball would put me in a magic-deficient state now."
"My magic power’s all finished too, but I still got quite a little bit of Ether and Aura left."
Edward frowned lightly upon hearing Layla’s answer to his question, turning to Nicole who was still silently staring at Gilbalar’s corpse before saying.
"Are enhanced energy reserves a racial trait in pure-blood Devils or something? How the heck do you guys still have any energy left in your bodies after fighting a dude who surpassed you by three stages?
If anyone told me that guy had as much energy as an inferior stage Legendary, I would agree with them."
[His maximum energy values were on that level. Don’t forget that Esna’s spell rendered him unable to use his divinity.]
Undine casually replied to Edward as she wrapped his body in a blob of water, healing all his wounds instantly before doing the same to Layla.
"Can you change out of these rags alre-"
"Esna."
"Hmm?"
Nicole’s call cut Esna off, with the godslayer girl walking up to her friend only to see the teenage Devil create a pressurized blade of water in between two of her fingers and use it to tear Gilbalar’s chest open.
"Pffftt!!!!"
Layla spat out the potion she was drinking as she saw Nicole casually split the dead man’s corpse open.
Edward who was pulling out a change of clothes dropped the clothes on the ground in shock, and even Undine was looking at the girl with a look of confusion.
"...What are you doing?"
Finally, Layla decided to ask on behalf of all of them, but Nicole only silently coated her hand in ether and stuck it into his chest, moving around a bit before pulling out a fist-sized red energy stone.
She then used water to wash the blood off the energy stone; Gilbalar’s divine spark, and then tossed it towards Esna who reflexively caught it.
"...What am I supposed to-?!"
Esna could not finish her question as she saw the divine spark start to break down in her hands, with the energy escaping it in the form of a red mist before silently seeping into her body.
Seeing this phenomenon, they all finally understood why Nicole had casually pulled out the man’s energy core with a straight look on her face.
"How do you know about this...?"
The godslayer girl whose body was absorbing the divine spark on default, asked while slightly struggling to fight the feeling of euphoria that was welling up inside her.
"Arthur told me."
"Arthur told you that? When?"
In response to Layla’s question, Nicole pulled out a handkerchief and cleaned her sweat as she casually replied.
"A few months ago. When we went to see a movie after my birthday.
We somehow entered the topic of his training with Esna when we were talking after the movie and he told me about that."
After hearing her reply, the four of them were all silent for a few seconds, trying to process what Nicole just said, as even Undine was dumbfounded to hear this.
"...I know this is not the time, neither is the place to ask this, but...did you just casually admit to having gone on a date with Arthur?"
Nicole tilted her head to the side with a slightly confused expression as she asked back.
"Date? We only just went to see a movie based on one of my favourite novels and have lunch together afterwards."
"I’m not sure about how Devils see things but as far as I know, I’m pretty sure that’s a basic date plan."
"But doesn’t that word only apply when the parties involved both agree that it is?"
Nicole replied to Esna with a question, and from the clear look in her eyes, Esna could tell that Nicole wasn’t trying to mess with her.
She was just about to reply when her body suddenly grew hot and her energy circuits started overheating.
Undine noticed this and immediately pulled out the divine spark in her hands, however, the energy within it was still flowing towards Esna.
With a frown, the spirit used her power over space to isolate the divine spark, cutting off the energy flow.
[You just became a superior stage a few hours ago, your body isn’t ready for the Epic realm yet. Give yourself some time to stabilize before attempting a breakthrough.]
"Wait...what? You’re saying that I almost entered the Epic realm just now?"
[Why are you so surprised, the divine spark is one that belonged to an inferior stage legendary, an existence more a realm and a stage higher than you.
With your slayer race’s strengthening attribute, it’s no surprise that it could bump you up by an entire stage; to the next realm in this case.]
Undine replied to Esna’s inquiry before telling them to return to the city as she could sense that they were growing unsettled by the sudden silence.
Like so, the four of them returned to Vako city with Gilbalar’s corpse in tow, landing in front of the shocked inhabitants of Gade who were still trying to evacuate from the city.
Sakaala, Count Vako, the grandmaster Ady, the Knight captain and the other top adventurers who stayed back all had gaping jaws as they saw Layla drop Gilbalar’s body on the floor and step on it with her foot before asking with a light smile.
"Now then. Did anyone order a dead malevolent god of fire?"
